Then, to bring the normal forces, mentally and physically,
to this body, THERE MUST BE, WITHIN THE ENTITY'S OWN
INDIVIDUAL SELF, ITS (the entity's) RESPONSIBILITY TO SELF
AND TOWARD THE WORLD, AND TO THE PEOPLE WHOM THE ENTITY
CONTACTS FROM TIME TO TIME; for the entity must realize that
NOT ONLY as a cog in the world DOES THIS ENTITY occupy a
place in the present condition of affairs, BUT THAT THE
WORLD DEPENDS UPON THIS ENTITY TO DO ITS PART TOWARD THE
BETTERMENT OF THE WHOLE OF THE POPULACE OF THE WORLD!
There CANNOT be any GOOD, morally, mentally, PHYSICALLY,
that there is not an expenditure of self for same, and the
entity must awaken that within self WHEREIN this moral,
mental and physical responsibility will RESPOND to those
conditions that are about self, for THESE are the ways of
Life. Let not those disappointments that have come into the
life take away from those conditions wherein the entity is
to give unto others of self, in time, in MENTAL FORCES.
This is wherein the entity brings HARM to self, and brings
upon self those conditions wherein the physical suffers, the
mental is in anguish, and those conditions that present the
self to the entity from time to time is SELF and self's ways
that must be overcome!
Then, in these STILL, SMALL, QUIET hours, let entity take
stock of self, and in this choose a companion that will GIVE
to the entity an interest in the affairs of life; that is,
in the activities of the duties that are obligations to the
entity's physical existence.
We see the entity will understand these.
Take up those exercises that bring about the calisthenics!
Take up those that bring about those actions of physical
forces in the body that expend the physical STRENGTH of
body! Not only as the livelihood, but as a PURPOSE! Then
the PURPOSEFUL SELF, expended in the way and manner, will
bring physical, moral, mental, and spiritual happiness. Do
that.
We are through for the present.
BACKGROUND
10/15/25 Aunt's letter: "Having heard of your wonderful
work, and having written to your sister for your address,
I am availing myself of this opportunity to write about my
nephew who is in a state of ill health... We think it not
advisable for him to know about our having written you."
10/19/25 EC urged the family to get his cooperation if
possible.
1/02/26 Mother's letter: "He is in a very critical
condition. He seems to have no organic trouble except a bad
nervous trouble. He is very bright and sane on most
subjects but on some subjects he is not normal. For
instance, he has an idea that in some way his father is
responsible for some transmitted weakness and he is very
bitter toward his father, even threatening his life.
"He has been in a number of hospitals, but no one seems to
have reached the trouble. I have sometimes wondered if
there could be some misplacement and something pressing on a
nerve that causes his trouble. He is much worse at times.
I will give any cooperation, but it is useless to attempt to
gain his. He would think this utter nonsense. In fact, he
thinks himself incurable, and is not willing to try any-
thing. He is in a terrible state of mind. If you can do
anything for him, you will have saved a life."
1/16/26 Mother's letter: "My son went to ..., Cuba just
before I received your letter. I have not yet heard from him
and am so sorry I cannot give you his address. He is in a
dreadful state but I think there ought to be some cure for
him though no one has ever found it. His thought habits are
all wrong, so that he has little faith in anything or
anybody. But I still hope and sometimes think that some very
small thing may throw the whole nervous system out of
harmony.
"If I hear his exact address before the 20th I will send
telegram. Otherwise I suppose the reading will have to be
postponed."
2/24/26 Mother's letter: "I have decided that the only way
to reach my son is to try to gain his cooperation. Hence I
have written him sending your booklet and telling him I am
asking you to send another appointment card direct to him.
I pray that he may respond to it."
3/05/26 Mother's letter: "If my son signs the card and
arranges for a reading, please send me a report of the
reading as well as him. I hope and pray we can get his
cooperation."
([
7] signed the card and returned it, giving his address as
"Sitting on Porter Steamship Dock overlooking ...Harbor
...Fla.")
3/11/26 See 7-1.
3/26/26 Mother's letter: "I have received the reading you
gave my son [
7] and I thank you very much. I am hoping that
he will follow your advice. I am sure he would be greatly
benefitted. He has never written me a word about it. That
makes me think he is considering it. Otherwise he would
write me it was all a fake...He is now at his sister's and
she writes me he seems pretty cheerful...You will hear from
me again, when I have time to know more about how he seems."
