111]'s letter to EC: "...I received your reading
given on my physical condition which I think is in keeping
with symptoms that I have undergone in the years gone by...
I have at times thought that I was predisposed to
hypochondria and have done all in my power to overcome it and
to think that there was nothing wrong with my physical
condition, as all the doctors that I have been to said that I
was normal. I am just wondering if the change that you speak
of in your reading, that came to me when I was about the age
you mention, 17 - 18, referred to the peculiar change I
underwent about that time. I was at a loss to know what to
do or where to lay my hand. Since that time I have continued
to undergo changes, making a tri - of what I am going to call
bi-sexual change, and I know from experience that this has
not been natural or normal. It has not come from environment
nor habit but it is purely innate and at times it seems to
dominate my whole being, as though I was another person,
miserable of course. I have consulted hundreds of medical
doctors but in vain, not one ever gave me any encouragement
nor hinted a suggestion worthwhile. They would give a little
laxative or pepsin for the digestive tract, and that was all
they would say. I have had X-rays made and they would find
nothing they said to be alarming, and that of course would
help me to keep myself together.
"I want to say that I am going to carry out your every
suggestion just as near as can be possible. I have a
druggist who is filling the prescription; he has had to order
some of the compound in the original from N.Y.; as yet I
haven't begun to take the medicine. I am going to give you
in a very confidential way just how I have suffered as I
understand it, and about myself in a general way:
"As a boy I was perfectly normal; went swimming, played ball
and did everything that other boys do. At sixteen I began to
have pains; these pains varied in intensity and the locality
of the body. They started in my stomach, as I thought, and
then shifted to my side and back, and by the time I was
eighteen I had to resort to drugs to allay the pain, as it
had become so intense. My father carried me to the family
doctor and he made an examination with his brother, both
being doctors; they said that I had neuralgia; they
prescribed and I took the medicine and received some benefit,
as I thought, from it. I was always kept in school as my
family had an idea I was delicate. I finished high school
and college and began teaching and studying. I have had
advance courses in sociology and psychology, making special
study of sex and child mind, still fighting for normal
health, as I realized that contemplation of tragedy is a
barren futility unless we can take heart and build anew on
the ashes of disaster. O, but how much lighter the task if
we knew what caused the calamity! How much more worthwhile
if we knew exactly what we would build! Today I am still
having that same pain in my stomach-back-side. Dr. Brandon
Hubbard gave me a lengthy cystoscopic examination, making
X-ray at the same time, and found as he said nothing. Then
he gave me a series of prostate gland massages both hand and
electrical; they did little good...
"I want you to know because I want you to help me and I
believe that you can..."

died]: "...Dr. Cayce, I am in need of your help again, as
for the past few years I haven't been too well..."
