This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 10th day of June, 1926, in accordance with request via phone made by his brother, Mr. [900].

TEXT

1. GC: You will answer the questions regarding this body that I will ask you.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here. We have had this before, you see. The conditions at the present time show an improvement in the functioning of the organs of the system. Ready for questions.
3. (Q) In the reading of June 3rd [137-79], it says my mental condition is paramount. Explain this in the light of how I may help my physical ailment i.e., the impurities in my blood and urine.
   (A) The explanation in this is as this: In every physical being, the whole body is made up of the atomic forces of the system, with the mind of each atom, as it is builded, supervised by the whole mental mind of the body, varied by its different phases and attributes, for, as is seen in its analyses, an atom of the body is a whole universe in itself, in the minutest state. The attitude, then, of all the attributes of the mind toward self, and the forces as manifest through same, become then paramount. As to any healing in a body, or ANY APPLICATION of any source, nature, character, kind, or condition, is only to create that incentive IN that same atomic force to create the better condition in a body, whether it be medicinal properties, whether it be of manipulation to induce incentive reaction, whether it be of an operative nature, or what not, is to create that same condition in the atomic forces of the body to bring about the better physical conditions in the system. Then, necessarily, it is paramount. How to go about to apply same? May be through self and self's attitude towards those conditions which are of the physical and spiritual natures in an individual, and to this individual especially. As has OFTEN been given, these become MORE paramount in THIS individual than of the ordinary.
4. (Q) Is the doctor correct in his diagnosis, that I have what is called acute Bright's Disease? In other words, Bright's Disease means pus in the kidneys and the manifestation in form of albumin. Have I that?
   (A) Have albumin in the urine, in a more or lesser degree. As being that as is called Bright's Disease, no, for in this body the congestion of the eliminating system is so closed (or has been - its opened better now) that the pus as is eliminated through the kidneys is that as SHOULD be eliminated through the liver. Simply an overtaxing of one organ in PREFERENCE to another, for the system seeks EVER to adjust itself and right itself throughout the system. The eliminating of any inflamation throughout the system comes, as is seen by the anatomical study of the conditions, either through the liver and ITS organs and its functioning system or through the kidneys. When the liver is so choked up, when its cells, if you please, of each lobe, are so congested as to produce the inability of the emunctory forces' functioning, the emunctories in the kidneys respond, for, as has OFTEN been given, the liver and the kidneys are the positive and negative poles of a human body, and when one becomes overtaxed, necessarily, the other becomes supercharged in its functioning.
5. (Q) Is the treatment I am now undergoing correct, in that it is helping the actual trouble, regardless of diagnosis?
   (A) Its helping the troubles. The rest of the system, and the exciting of the eliminations of the system, is that that is assisting. Hence the conditions as were given to eliminate in the system, and to re-open or re-stimuIate every atomic force of the emunctory and of the lymphatic system, see?
6. (Q) Is the treatment complete - could more now be done to aid and speed recovery? What?
   (A) Rest, and that that produces the pus in system through the means of causing congestion in the eliminating system to be removed, that as has been given. The conditions in the tonsils and the stirring up of the liver to its normal action. In removing those conditions in the tonsil, in the mouth, in the whole system, by that means, manner and way as has been outlined, the condition is removed in the clear, clean, manner, without overtaxing another portion of the atomic system, either through anaesthesia, through creating a condition necessary of an extra amount of coagulation taking place, and, as is seen, while it takes LONGER, it is more effective and better, especially for a system that has been, and is, anemic throughout, for the NATURAL condition of the anemia is to create that poor elimination, both in the emunctories of the inner body and of the capillary circulation, to say nothing of the stress as is produced on the respiratory system. Hence, as is seen, the whole condition in this body is to be met by that which will be in that position of keeping the greatest amount of equilibrium throughout the system, for, as is seen, in the present condition that has existed, and as is now being overcome by rest, by the respiratory system being stimulated, by the resting of the digestive system, etc., the whole system needs to be kept in this way and manner, and, AS HAS BEEN GIVEN, the MENTAL ELEMENTS, in all its nature, BEING paramount for the body.
7. (Q) Just how serious is my condition, in so far as it is generally considered very grave to show albumin to any amount in the urine, particularly in a young person?
   (A) This is really theory. The CONDITION as exists in the body may be VERY serious at any moment, just as no one's breath is guaranteed for the next second, except by whom? The higher forces that lie from within the individual itself! See? The condition to be overcome is that that is OUTLINED here. Do that, in that way and manner! It is not SERIOUS, save as is created in the MIND of THIS entity, as its relation to the material and the spiritual forces of the body, with the relations with material world and its relations with the spiritual.
8. (Q) Through these forces that have come to mean so much to me, may I be given help or council to cure my condition, even in addition or of a better nature than given by doctors? By better. I mean not superior, but more effective.
   (A) Both SUPERIOR and more effective. Apply through individual self application of that ALREADY gained! APPLYING IT brings the results!
9. (Q) How should I the better prepare to have tonsils removed?
   (A) Keep the system in that condition of as near normal elimination as is possible under the conditions, and begin at once to prepare for the conditions to be removed, through the sources AS HAS BEEN GIVEN.
10. (Q) How may my faith bring my condition to normal?
    (A) Through the application of the same conditions as have been explained.
11. (Q) When or how long a time, about, ought it be before I so recover?
    (A) Five to six days.
12. (Q) That is, may I have the finger surgery performed before I will be ready for one of a cutting nature that requires the anaesthetic?
    (A) Not necessary for the cutting, with the one prepared and done properly by the finger surgery.
13. (Q) Any emergency in this sickness to beware of?
    (A) Mental attitude, principally. The over stimulation of the system to or towards congestion, cold, dampness, or any of that nature. Keep the eliminations proper in the system - the system will adjust itself.
14. That is all the questions.
15. We are through for the present.

BACKGROUND

1. 6/08/26 Brother [900]'s letter: "Thank heavens [137] is better - that is, whereas his specimen showed 48 to 50% albumin when tested Saturday afternoon [6/05/26], it only showed 12% when tested Monday [6/07/26] (latter a 24 hour test which Dr. House will understand). Another such test will be made today and we are hoping the albumin will be further reduced. If a couple of days can make such a difference there could be no diseased kidney such as the name Bright's Disease implies. Dr. House may know more of that and the treatment may further enlighten him. [137] was put on a milk and water diet for the first day, a milk, water and cracker diet the next day and up to now. He was given an enema and followed by Pluto the next morning. The reading 137-80 gave the pills instead and a saline laxative which Pluto is. The reading also called for a restriction of diet, but allowed an egg and stimulant to be included or to compose the diet, whereas the doctor strictly forbid the albumin containing food such as egg or stimulant of any kind as being detrimental to the condition, but I have no quarrel if only he recovers and am very thankful for so pronounced and speedy a recovery."
2. 6/09/26 EC's letter to Mr. [257]: "I certainly hope [137] gets along alright, though from what his doctors say it seems a pretty serious thing for a young man of his age. Personally I believe they are all wrong. I really think they are trying to scare him to death."

REPORTS

1. 6/11/26 See his brother's rdg. 900-240, Par. 3-A--5-A in re [137]'s recovery.
2. 6/14/26 Brother [900]'s report: "[137] is continuing to show improvement and the albumin is considerably reduced - in fact to a trace. However, the specialist called in says he wants [137] to be in bed 2 weeks more and then take 2 weeks to grow strong. His diagnosis seems to coincide nearer to your reading than any, as he says [137]'s heart action is under pressure as shown by respiratory system, and that his whole system is under strain and only rest will prevent a chronic condition. [137], of course, worries at the prospect of 4 more weeks away from business... The doctors also told him his mental condition played a part and his fretting and worrying would only make matters worse. So there it lies and, of course above all, he must get well."
3. 6/18/26 Mr. [137] obtained another physical reading in regard to his tonsils. See 137-82.
4. GD's note: 10/18/52 Dr. D. H. Fogel, in studying above reading, said he considered that it gave a good definition of psychosomatics.
