(Q) Have osteopathic treatments been given correctly, and
with sympathy and faith?
(A) These have been given rather with wonderment, but they
have been given very well - and with the proper precautions
as to the activities of the physical and mental body. There
SHOULD be, with the giving of these, more of the tendency to
get an oral response to the various applications to the
body functioning - see? that is, as the treatments or the
administrations are made in various portions of the body, get
the responses FROM the body, [
146], as to what, how, where
the responses are in the system. This may be done!
(Q) How often should they be given?
(A) At least twice each week.
(Q) Specify centers where manipulations will bring best
results.
(A) In the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cervical, in the 3rd and 4th
dorsal, and in the 4th lumbar areas.
(Q) Is it necessary or best to continue Mayblossom Bitters?
If so, what dosage?
(A) Would be better to continue at given or specific
periods. We would give three doses of a half a teaspoonful
each, each day for five days - then rest two days - then
give it again for five days, see? Preferably give this
AFTER the meals.
(Q) Has he made the improvements in this period that were
expected in [Par.] 6-A of last reading?
(A) Not altogether, but the responses are VERY SURE.
(Q) Why wasn't there the improvement as expected?
(A) Why are some days cloudy and some days sunny? These
are the activities, or the responses as the body makes to
the various conditions as they come and go. Be not over
anxious. Be VERY sure, with patience and with fortitude
necessary to meet all conditions.
(Q) Is he ready for public school?
(A) In the half season, we would say, he would be. Not in
the beginning of same. Best that he remain in this same
environ [Rosehill School, Chester Heights, Pa.] for at least
the next three to four months.
(Q) Is he any nearer saying new words than at last reading?
(A) To be sure!
(Q) Is there anything else we can do to get him to talk?
(A) Follow the lines as have been suggested from time to
time, and as suggested here - the best response may be had
NOW, under the changes being made, from the one making or
applying the manipulations [Dr. Elisha T. Kirk, D.O.].
Then we will find a better or more ready response in change
of environs.
(Q) Would it be best for him to be at Rosehill School
during the next period or at home?
(A) As has been given. This change in the suggestion would
be, from the necessity of the MENTAL coordination, the
necessity of the applications made physically to be
cooperative with the application of the [osteopathic]
manipulations, and COORDINATION of physical conditions in
body.
(Q) Are his teeth alright?
(A) Some show that impaction, imbedding, needs to be
attended to.
(Q) Would a hypnotist be able to hypnotize [
146]?
(A) Would be able. Would not be well under the EXISTENT
conditions.
(Q) How long before he should have another check reading?
(A) In sixty to ninety days.
(Q) What other suggestions do you have for the betterment
of this body?
(A) These we would do, as have been outlined.
That is all the questions regarding this body.
We are through with this reading.

BACKGROUND
5/19/31 Mother obtained Ck. Physical Rdg.
146-5 advising
continued treatment for her retarded son.
8/30/31 She submitted further questions.
REPORTS
9/16/31 Mother wrote: "I was very pleased with the rdg. and
a letter from Dr. Kirk since assures me that he is working
faithfully and conscientiously. I'll be very anxious to
how [
146] reacts to the treatments this period." She
requested
5493-1.
10/07/31 She wrote: "We are about to our row's end, and may
have to bring [
146] home to (W. Va.) before this period of
treatments is over. The condition here (financially) seems
worse, or at least it is with us.
Please send the Mayblossom Bitters at once, as Mrs. Pope
writes that she has already used one bottle of the other
children's for him."
10/10/31 EC wrote he was sending 2 bottles of the Bitters:
"I'm sorry indeed that your bank has been in financial
difficulties. I know just what such things mean, having
experienced the same once or twice myself. I certainly hope
matters will get adjusted and that it will be of as little
inconvenience to you as possible under the circumstances.
I hope, too, that it does not become necessary to deprive
[
146] of the advantage of this series of treatments."
10/18/31 Mrs. [
959], [
146]'s mother referred
5658-1.
11/20/31 She wrote: "How soon can you give [
146] a ck.
rdg.? I want to make a trip up there but would like to get
the rdg. first."
12/07/31 She submitted questions, saying: "I'll be waiting
anxiously and prayerfully for the rdg."
12/09/31 EC gave Ck. Physical Rdg.
146-7.
