11/28/32 EC wrote Mrs. Pope: "I do appreciate yours of the
18th. We realize just how busy you are kept, and what a
proposition it is to undertake to give some definite time
to one individual, but we are so very anxious to meet this
situation in much the same manner that we are having reports
(and must be getting results) in so many other cases. From
the results we are persuaded that the magnetic treatments
which have been suggested for [
146] will be so very
effectual in his condition, and we are wondering if we could
not in some manner get a little time each evening - possibly
at our 5:45 P. M. meditation - for you to give ten or fifteen
minutes to this treatment for [
146]. This has been so very
effectual in so many cases, if it is at all possible we would
like to try it for about a few weeks; hence the information
that I would like for you to ask about the conditions as you
see them at present, and just what you would like to know
about how this should be carried on and what might be
expected in response to your efforts in that direction.
"The time that you have given and are giving in this matter
of suggestion is no doubt having its effect, even though you
may be unaware of a great deal of results just at present.
From our experiences here, and from the reports we get, I am
sure this stubbornness might be entirely eradicated. As an
illustration: We have a correspondent, a man and his family
who have grown to be very dear to us, though we have never
met them in person. He is a doctor in ..., Ill., who has
a boy (or a young man 21 [
2155] years old) who has been
a sufferer all his life. The case has been pronounced
epilepsy, and - as you no doubt know, in most cases - he is
very strong physically, but has the mind of a 3 or 4 year
old child. They have had a great deal of trouble with his
officiousness, and with such strength he at times becomes
almost unmanageable. In the reading it was suggested that
he have this laying on of hands, or it is now called (for
it is being taught in one of the medical schools in
Baltimore) a scientific MAGNETIC treatment. Well, just to
give you an idea, here is the report from the father
received last Saturday: 'Our boy is a new creature. The
surliness and stubbornness has gradually disappeared. He
astonishes us often now with the things we realize he is
gathering from our conversation when we are around him.'
"So, I feel that if it is possible to carry out this
treatment for [
146], we could get wonderful results. I think
you could make those questions cover practically everything;
to be sure, the one about the stubbornness should be a
definite question.
"I certainly appreciate your contribution to the work of the
group. I am sure that you will have the cooperation of
everyone on the group in prayer and meditation for your work
there. We appreciate the work you are doing, and the
efforts that it requires. We hope we are not asking too
much about this afternoon work; tell us just the situation
and we will see what can be done. Be sure to make a list of
questions, as we want to get a check on this very soon.
"Thanking you for your cooperation, and with kindest
personal regards and best wishes and love from all, I am"
Sincerely,
P.S.: "Someone in N.Y. asked about your school; they are
considering changing their little boy [
758], and are
wondering if you could take another child. He is not deaf
and dumb, but has been a very backward child, and has had
some very unusual experiences. Should you hear from Mr.
[
417] (the father of [
758]), let me know. We will be glad to
give you the history of the case as we know it. We have
given information for him for two years, and he is more than
a hundred percent better than he was when they began. It is
another case of where love will do wonders, while discipline
(as we ordinarily know it) does little; but loving discipline
would be wonderful." EC.

benefitted. I have always thought personal contact is what
he needs as much as anything and he is getting more of it

6/20/33 Mrs. [

better. I felt anxious about her. She wrote the Study
Group about [

more than he used to. That is encouraging, I think."
7/10/33 Mrs. Anne M. Pope wrote: "I wanted to write you
weeks ago to thank you for the message you sent me, also the
one for Rosehill School, but the one for me made such a deep
impression - as you rec'd it [
281-17 Par. 16-A] the very day
I was low in the hospital. From that day I started to
improve. I expect to be well and whole through the power of
the living God, in body, mind and spirit.
"You and all who are associated with you are surely bringing
blessings to those who are seeking the Truth, and I know the
Father is blessing you all. As I wrote to the Norfolk Study
Group #1, I had to turn [
146] over to my nephew Robert
Chambers and he has to hold his meditation for him at night
but I think [
146] is doing more for him than he did for me.
Robert is DEEPLY interested in spiritual study and I hope he
will come with me to meet you."
8/11/33 Mrs. [
959] wrote that she and Mrs. Pope wanted a ck.
rdg. for [
146]: "[
146] is just as hearty looking as can be,
and I think very quiet. He seems less nervous than I have
ever seen him. Of course just being with him for a day I
could not get over the state of timidity that naturally
exists from so long a separation. He is not jerking any to
amount to anything, and is taking no medicine at all. He
seems a little rigid, but not so much as before. He makes
no effort to talk, though Mrs. Pope says he tries to do
everything else that she tells him to do."
8/29/33 Mother wrote: "When I think of how much better
[
146] is than he was at the beginning, I feel very much
ashamed at my impatience."
9/13/33 EC gave Ck. Physical Rdg.
146-9.
