ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH AND ENLIGHTENMENT, INCORPORATED
Virginia Beach, Virginia
"Man's search for Truth is his search for God."
REPORT ON THE CONGRESS [By HLC]
The 1938 Congress of the Association held on June 25, 26, 27
and 28, was in many respects the best of the seven congresses
which have been provided for members of the Association. It
would be impossible in the space allowed here to give a
detailed account of the events. A special Congress Booklet
is being prepared which will contain: Extracts from Readings
on World Affairs, Two Congress Readings, Two Talks Given by
Mr. Edgar Cayce at the Congress Dinner and a brief
description of the various Congress meetings. These
booklets may be secured from the Secretary of the
Publication Department, Mrs. Helen Storey, 2709 Lafayette
Boulevard, Norfolk, Virginia. The price is fifty cents.
Those who have not placed orders for these booklets should
do so at once as only a limited number will be made up
beyond the actual orders.
Of special interest to the members is the selection of
officers and trustees of the Association which took place at
the annual meeting of the Board of Trustees on the opening
day of the Congress.

Vice-President: Milton W. Harrison, New York, N.Y.

Manager: H. L. Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Action taken by the Board of Trustees especially concerned
three departments of the Association: Study Groups,
Publications and Library.
Acting upon a recommendation presented by Miss Esther Wynne,
Chairman of the Study Group Committee, the Board of Trustees
created the Department of Study Groups with a General Group
Secretary, Mrs. Hannah Miller, 3217 Verdun Avenue, Norfolk,
Va. Miss Wynne will be assisted by a committee selected from
the members of the Association interested in group study in
preparing the material which may be used in the Association's
group work. Members who are interested in this phase of the
Association's activities should communicate with Mrs. Miller.
The Trustees officially created a Publication Department.
Mr. Thomas Sugrue, 18 Windsor Place, Oceanside, L.I., New
York, was reelected as Chairman. Mrs. Helen Storey, 2709
Lafayette Boulevard, Norfolk, Virginia, was selected as
Secretary-Treasurer of this Department. All orders for
publications will hereafter be handled through Mrs. Storey.
The next printed matter to be issued through this department
will be a small leaflet entitled "A Man - His Work - What It
Means To You." This will be mailed to all members about
September 1, and will be given wide distribution.
A series of pamphlets on various phases of the work is
planned for the early fall.
Another important step taken by the Trustees was the
acceptance of a recommendation from the Manager to create a
Library Committee. In view of the extending research
activities this is especially significant. The Chairman of
this Committee has not been selected but a detailed
explanation of the plans for building up the Association's
Library will be presented next month. All members of the
Association who have suggestions that will be of help are
asked to communicate with the Manager.
The Board of Trustees authorized the Manager to return to a
development of a plan which was recommended in readings on
the work of the Association several years ago providing for
Regional Representatives.
Mrs. Gladys Dillman, a member of the Board, will assist the
Manager in developing and extending this program. As the
work of the Regional Representative is important to every
member of the Association we are including an outline of the
plan here.
Regional Representatives
1. With the assistance of the Manager, Mrs. Gladys Dillman,
54 N. Brockway Ave., Apartment 2, Youngstown, Ohio, will
select members of the Association who will be known as
Regional Representatives of the Association for Research and
Enlightenment, Incorporated.
2. The activities of these representatives will be as
follows:
A. To distribute literature of the Association.
B. Be prepared to assist an individual in preparing questions
for either a Physical Reading or a Life Reading.
C. Be prepared to discuss and explain either Physical
Readings or Life Readings with individuals who receive them.
D. Assist individuals interested in following up any phase of
the Association's work in making proper contacts with doctors
or research workers in their sections.
E. To assist in extending the sale of publications prepared
by the Association.
Regional Representatives will be furnished with a working
manual containing data on readings and details of the
Association's program. They will have the names and
addresses of all members in their section and be in touch
with doctors and research workers who are interested in the
Association.
All members who feel that they can give a small amount of
time and energy to this phase of the work are asked to
communicate with Mrs. Dillman.
This personal approach for preparing individuals for readings
and assisting with explanations will undoubtedly increase the
effectiveness of the work of the Association a hundred
percent. Your interest and cooperation are essential.
Printed Booklets
We would like to call your attention again to the two printed
booklets announced recently.
THE LAST SUPPER contains a bit of voluntary information given
in one of Mr. Cayce's psychic readings. It is a word picture
of Jesus with his disciples at the last supper. This booklet
also contains a short story inspired by this description.
THE POWER WITHIN is a revised transcription of an address
given by Dr. Henry Hardwicke at one of the Annual Congress
meetings in 1936.
We would like to give both of these publications as wide
distribution as possible. Anyone interested in the general
subject of psychic research will find the booklet by Dr.
Hardwicke most helpful. THE LAST SUPPER has attracted
considerable attention already. While comment has been both
favorable and unfavorable we feel that his booklet will
continue to attract attention.
Have these booklets mailed to your friends. Address orders
to Mrs. Helen Storey, 2709 Lafayette Boulevard, Norfolk, Va.
The cost including mailing is twenty-five cents each or five
for one dollar.
Journal of Parapsychology
We would again like to call the attention of our members to
the Journal of Parapsychology edited by William McDougall and
Joseph Banks Rhine of Duke University. This journal is
published four times a year and contains papers on the
experiments being carried on with telepathy and clairvoyance
in a number of American universities.
Anyone interested in Psychical Research should keep informed
on the work being accomplished at Duke.
8/31/83 GD's note: This was a dream Hugh Lynn had in March
1977 in the Virginia Beach General Hospital following a
heart attack. When he "came to" in the hospital he recalled
this vivid dream: He was surrounded by his parents and
loved ones who had passed on, including all those who had
been active in "the work", both those who had passed on and
all of those here on earth now active in it, including
members of the staff, etc., all board members and those
supporting the organization locally and throughout the
world. They assured him that they were "with him", that
the work would go on. Morton Blumenthal spoke up saying,
"Hugh Lynn, we are all with you; it's like money in the
bank - you can draw on it." Hugh Lynn later told Morton's
brother Edwin about this dream, and he was pleased.
[Edwin also passed on
1/23/80.]
