Dear Family:
I am sure you will like to know just how things went last
night, but already from the reading I know you understand
that the final word has not yet been said.
We recorded the program last night - including the
presentation of the three stories - straight narrative,
partial dramatization and complete dramatization. It takes
about fifteen people to put on such a show aside from the
experts and people I bring in, so you can see we had pretty
much of a stir. WE had music, sound effects, announcers,
etc.
I worked on the thing from five thirty to eleven and when
finished felt pretty flat. The program somehow didn't click
as it should have. I was told that my part of it was o.k.
but it can be much improved. We intentionally recorded a
long program in order to get the various angles in.
On Monday I am meeting with the script man, director and
WOR officials to check over the recording and make plans for
improving the presentation. I am confident that another
recording will be necessary before a decision and date for
the first broadcast will be set. (If as the readings say -
the final answer is to be yes, which evidently is uncertain.)
The reading will be of great help. The suggestions on the
board are very good and also with reference to the material
to be presented. As the program will be done I will have
pretty complete charge of the type of material presented and
also the discussion that takes place on it. I will certainly
observe the suggestions given, both in selecting the material
for cases, and also for bringing out the helpful side with a
possible background of spiritual laws.
These people are interested deeply for they are spending
quite a bit of time and money in developing the idea. It
looks like a good opportunity and I will try to do a good
job. Thanks lots for the reading.
I haven't heard any more from Mrs. Comer, so guess you may
expect her.
I will keep you advised of developments.
Love, (signed) Hugh Lynn
10/18/38 HLC's letter from New York:
Will let you know about further plans as soon as get final on
radio.
Sorry a bit that this radio has taken so much time, but the
experience has been most valuable.
Please don't worry about me worrying over things. As you
know I talked that to others for so long that I really have
made myself believe it is the best policy not to worry. I
get only mild spells and they soon pass. No sane sensible
person in my position could lose heart or even stop to worry
for long with the work ahead. I only have to stop and think
for a moment of the following:
1. Our background - the years of work, success and failure
joy and sorrow that has been a part of all that we are trying
to do. ALL of you there represent more faith, more peace and
inner understanding of it all, more good accomplished than
the average individual sees in several lives. Our foundation
is real this time because it is builded on sacrifice of our
selfish motives and ideas for an ideal. Nothing can ever
destroy THAT.
2. More than ever before we have real sincere people willing
to help, to take part in carrying on.
3. There is so much ahead that needs to be accomplished.
Wherever this all may lead you can be very sure that it
is a joy and pleasure in working it out that NOTHING ELSE
could ever give. We are indeed privileged that each day
brings a new realization that today is worth living for
itself - for the good that is in it. The good that comes
from these readings is not alone in the readings themselves,
but in the minds of thousands (mad with sorrow, worry,
selfishness) there is good in OUR LIVING day by day that
which is so close to us. It is hard sometimes, but so worth
doing.
