GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of
[
257], of Room 1904, 501 Madison Ave., N.Y.C., in connection
with Samuel S. Green of the same address, and other
associates of both with their associations; also Major H. H.
Daniels, Supt. of the Laundry, at the laundry office, Fort
Myers, Va., and the problem of dyeing uniforms for the
reforestation men. Please advise him what is now to be done
to insure the success of the enterprise, how to successfully
handle the order, delivery of same, satisfactory to all
concerned; also warn and advise him with the details
necessary to consummate the proposition. You will answer the
questions which he has submitted, as I ask them.
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [
257],
associations and connections regarding the dyeing.
In considering the conditions of every nature that are to be
met, first there should be the assurance - through the actual
operation - of their being able to be furnished the body the
satisfactory arrangements for the dyeing of the cloth. For,
where these are to be used where there has been varied
usages, or storage of, or the like, of that to be dyed, this
will require that all of these conditions be considered, if
there is to be the delivery of same without any troubles.
While the connections with Green and Daniels are
satisfactory, and these may be carried through to the end,
and be relied upon to carry out their part of the agreement,
the contract, the associations, but the TROUBLE would be in
the satisfactory arrangements about the handling of the
cloth, of the properties to be handled - see?
As soon as all concerned are satisfied that the connections
made can handle the situation, THEN make the contract, the
agreement, for the handling of same.
Ninety to ninety-eight cents would be a satisfactory price
for garments, and where cloth or where other conditions are
to be considered should be worked out in a satisfactory way
and manner.
This, as we find, is the manner in which to handle same; and
if there is the assurance of this, there will be little or no
trouble in handling the whole proposition.
There will be required THOUSANDS in the first order. By the
middle of June there should be at least two HUNDRED thousand
as an order, see?
Ready for questions.
(Q) When should the contract be signed?
(A) As just given, when there is the satisfactory air,
condition, surrounding; or when all concerned are SATISFIED
that those with whom the agreements have been made for
HANDLING this CAN do it!
(Q) Approximately, how many uniforms will be in the first
order to be dyed?
(A) As just given.
(Q) What kind of contract should be made with the government
to protect our interests?
(A) Protect the government as much as protect self's
interest!
When self is satisfied, and the government is satisfied, that
that desired - and that promised - can be delivered, there
won't be any trouble in making the satisfactory contract!
And this can be done! This isn't questioning! Just the
considerations that those in HANDLING this must consider the
manner in which these have been treated, with what, how many
have been stored, in what manner they have been stored, and
the like - see?
(Q) What number can I accept for dyeing during a six month
period?
(A) That depends upon how much, or how WELL the arrangements
are made for HANDLING the dyeing - see?
Because this can be made almost unlimited. Limited only to
the variation in that necessary to be done to give color, and
the recuperation, to that of the cloth itself - see?
(Q) Will re-forestation plan be carried out fully by
government successfully?
(A) It will.
(Q) Will I be able to handle this manner as planned, in
accord with the arrangements I have made for the financing
and handling?
(A) Provided that there are satisfactory arrangements with
the one HANDLING the dyeing! It all depends on this, as we
have given! Best that the variations in the character of the
cloth, character of the garments, be CONSIDERED - see? Not
unreasonable, from ANY standpoint! But be able to meet the
situation, those handling that part of it! THIS, as we have
given, is the ONLY part to be considered - other than has
been set up; for, to have the work done halfway and rejected,
what would it mean? Ruination!
(Q) Is my idea of forming a separate company for Samuel
Green and [brother [
2588]] the proper plan for accepting the
contract, through me?
(A) If so desired. If it is so desired, that this be
disassociated with some of the other associations and
connections, it's an excellent plan - and may be financed and
handled in this same way and manner. But the same secretary
or treasurer should handle this situation, that the
associations and connections may be satisfactory - Marcus.
(Q) What specific warnings should I have in order not to
make any mistakes in the handling of this very big deal?
(A) These have just been given, over and over again! That
there is, without question, the ability of dyers to handle
the situation!
(Q) Has Daniels the full authority to place and sign the
order?
(A) He has.
(Q) Is he completely trustworthy in these relations with me?
(A) As given, these associations and connections are well;
and trustworthy, if the other arrangements are made properly.
(Q) How should Daniels and I work a satisfactory
arrangement?
(A) As we have planned and outlined for all concerned.
(Q) When should Daniels come to N.Y.?
(A) When the satisfactory arrangements have been made about
the handling and taking care of the cloth, and garments!
(Q) Should I plan to go to Washington with Green?
(A) If necesssry to insure that the quantity and quality may
be handled properly.
(Q) Please advise me how I handled matters for the last four
or five days at Washington?
(A) Very good.
(Q) What should be my next move to fulfil and carry out
these plans?
(A) As given! SATISFY self FIRST! Not so much as to the
contract, but as to whether the delivery CAN be made in the
manner that is DESIRED!
(Q) Will Briggs Mfg. Co., thru their Mr. Manning of the
LeBarron plant, build the laundry machinery?
(A) Provided the arrangements are made, or the order is made
in accord with that which is their plan or manner of working
out same.
Specifications indicate there are some changes to be made.
If they are made satisfactory, these can be built.
Rest, then, where it stands; provided the CORRECTIONS are
made as to the proper specifications; because, understand,
can't anything be put over!
(Q) How much will Briggs charge me for machinery?
(A) This should have already been attended to. This has
been given already, some weeks ago, as to how much the charge
is! MAKE this satisfactory before the bid or the contract is
put in!
(Q) What is next move for me as to metal houses?
(A) Let it rest as it is, through the War Department - or
that that takes care of the housing of same.
(Q) Any special advice to me in arranging my associations
with Green?
(A) These have already been set up. To make much change
from that being proposed would spoil a good deal of it!
It's very good, as outlined; these are trustworthy. The
associations and connections in the HANDLING of it, the whole
situation, is that necessary.
(Q) Any other specific advice to direct me in proper
handling of the company's affairs successfully?
(A) As outlined time and again, have the policies; follow
them. Do not cut all for self; GIVE if you would receive.
In the MANNER as the approach is made, so will the result be.
If it's by stealth, expect the same to be practiced on self.
If it is by the right principles, expect to be met with the
same.
For, there is given both spirit and soul to the activities of
ANY individual, in any of the affairs of material life, and
they act!
We are through for the present.
