(Q) What place of advantage to all concerned will
association of Louis Pacent, Morgan St. & 41st Dr., the
engineer of Pacent Engineering Co., have in the completion
of the complete combination of phonograph and radio?
(A) This depends upon what is to be the office of same - as
to how much authority there is to be given, whether in the
expending or in the manner of installation, or inspection.
This depends upon many things, and to say how far it would go
would depend upon how far it is to be allowed to go without
some check.
(Q) Is the equipment now located in the laboratory at Louis
Pacent's home in Little Neck, L.I., sufficient to ask the top
price, if placed in a fine cabinet?
(A) If placed or when put in fine cabinet. It's efficient;
not sufficient.
(Q) Will [
994] be able to make a good enough cabinet for
this top price Brunswick radio, phonograph combination?
(A) Make good enough for any of 'em!
(Q) Should the cheaper sets of radio be purchased from
Emerson since he used the [
994] cabinets or from Arvin of
Columbus, Ind.?
(A) This offers the best channel or the best character of
equipment for the small, see? (the Emerson)
(Q) Should associate [bro.-in-law [
1565]] make a preliminary
trip with photographs and details in June or July or sooner,
or wait until he has samples to carry with him to show to his
trade?
(A) Wait until he has samples, or sufficient of same so that
not too much is drawn upon the imagination. For it is the
inclination of all to exaggerate; and unless there are the
samples, then there may be the inclination to overdraw as to
what the possibilities would be.
(Q) What cities - if jobbers recommended - should he visit
first?
(A) The central and north-central portions, and south and
southwest are in the position for the greater activities.
(Q) If direct to retailers what cities first will produce
quickest results?
(A) Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Maryland, Virginia.
(Q) Is the arrangement at [
994] properly set-up to pass
credits, ship merchandise, and handle all details in
connection with the assembly distribution and collections?
(A) This must be judged by those in authority; if they
satisfy [
994], or if they satisfy [
257] and [
1565].
(Q) We are employing Mr. Wright of Pacent staff as chief
inspector for proper installations. Is he sufficient and
capable to carry entire job?
(A) He is efficient; not overly so. There's too much the
inclination to be governed by the moment, rather than the
chief purpose. He has the abilities and must be set as to
the right manner; and do not make it personal - make it
rather for the consideration of the purchaser as well as the
builder of same.
(Q) With present set-up, prices are planned for $60 list and
up to $100. The DeLuxe line $595, and $695. What additional
changes recommended to meet public fancy?
(A) As indicated, from twelve-fifty to one-fifty; one-fifty
to seven-fifty.
(Q) How many models should we start with?
(A) Cover all the fields.
(Q) Will business conditions be such that we will be
able to do a good outstanding job in 1938?
(A) Should; and it should begin by the middle of July and
August; extending, of course, the greater part through
September and October.
(Q) When will the upturn in business start - what month?
(A) As just indicated.
(Q) What can [
257] expect, considering present conditions,
for 1938?
(A) How much is [
257] to give? As indicated for the body,
this depends upon that EXPENDED; and he may expect the
returns in proportion to the purposes for which there is
the expending.
(Q) What months will be best for Brunswick business?.
(A) As indicated.
(Q) What cooperative plan could or should be worked between
the Brunswick Record Co. and the Brunswick Radio & Phonograph
Co. to aid one another's business. Mr. Altschuler is
president, his address is 1776 B'way, N.Y.C. - Mr. Harry
Goetz is a stockholder.
(A) This may be worked out eventually. Just in the present
this will be dependent upon some other things that may arise
or develop. These may be held rather in abeyance, but are
NOT other than a good prospective position or condition.
(Q) What publicity should be given the Brunswick Co., and
when?
(A) Whenever they start or there is a desire that these be
in cooperation with the whole activity of the associations.
This as we find should have already begun!
(Q) What is preventing me from securing G.E. business so
far?
(A) Only the lack of business, as we find.
(Q) Are they definitely counting the [
994] plant as a source
of a supply this year?
(A) One of the sources of supply, and not definitely. If
it's necessary, it's rather the overflow.
(Q) Is Hughes working with me in trying to place the
business through me?
(A) Very good.
(Q) What would be the best list price to establish on the
DeLuxe Brunswick combination ranging from $550 to $750?
(A) This is as indicated, from the one-fifty to seven-fifty.
(Q) Will Julius Kahn of the Republic Steel Co., Cleveland,
O., become interested financially in the Brunswick - [
994] -
[
1565] - [
257] combination?
(A) He may eventually, NOT in the present as we find.
(Q) Will the phonograph Record player changer Mr. Julius
Kahn is perfecting be successful?
(A) It'll be very good, and is better than some of those
already on the market. But many of the manners in which
this work is already covered will make for a rather unusual
situation as to the handling of same.
(Q) How will it compare with Capehart?
(A) As just indicated, these are covered in patents and
in permission for use, see?
(Q) What cost should it be to manufacture it?
(A) This will depend entirely upon the changes that will be
required before it may be made in any quantities.
(Q) Will [[
257] and [
1565]] be able to work out ownership
with [
994] of the [
994] Bros. factory of ..., O.?
(A) Provided [
257] and [
1565] are able to raise sufficient
capital!
(Q) Should Pacent have a stock interest in the Brunswick
Company now being organized, or what basis to keep his
interest?
(A) Better.
(Q) What percentage of the capital stock should be given to
Pacent for his services and experience?
(A) Just as a working interest - should be the basis, see?
And what is necessary for the holding of the activities in
these directions.
(Q) Will we be successful in manufacturing and selling the
Porta Desk as shown by photograph on my desk?
(A) These we do not find so well. They will not take in
some sections, and in others they will. This will be rather
a mediocre proposition, as we find.
(Q) How many can be sold the first year?
(A) This will depend entirely, as indicated, on what
portions or directions or how the interest is aroused in the
various sections.
(Q) Where best to start?
(A) Where you are!
(Q) Through what channels can the best sales be made?
(A) Through the regular channel should the best sales come;
through the REGULAR channels for SUCH distribution. The desk
companies, to be sure!
(Q) Through whom should we go?
(A) The desk companies, to be sure!
(Q) Will Lande be successful in obtaining the money for the
Schwartzwalder plant in Chichester? [See Reports of Reading
257-196, Par. R3.]
(A) May eventually. Depends, as we find and as indicated
heretofore respecting same; these MIGHT have been all
cleared, been perfected through the connections with the G.E.
(Q) Will it be physically possible for [
257] to handle all
these divergent matters?
(A) The warnings have been given respecting these! Better
look these over!
(Q) Which ones best to drop?
(A) This depends upon which of the activities is to be
stressed! It is necessary for the body that he stay
continually involved; if not, he doesn't appear to himself
big enough to handle the whole situations! But do that you
do WELL!
We are through for the present.
