6/18/33 Mrs. Frances Y. Morrow's talk on THE WORK OF THE
NORFOLK STUDY GROUP NO. 1, at the home of Edgar Cayce, 3:30
P.M., Second Annual Congress of A.R.E.:
To review the organization of the Norfolk Study Group No. 1,
would be superfluous; for it has been reviewed again and
again in like assemblies; but, perhaps, it would be in order
to re-state that the Norfolk Study Group met with Mr. Cayce
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Barrett, about two years
ago, and there offered ourselves as channels to be used in
any way and manner that the Master saw fit to use us. Then,
and later in the readings, every step of our progress has
been pointed out, and today we are as ignorant as to the next
step we should take in the furtherance of the work as any
others present in this room. Not because we have not
received enlightenment, for we have, but because we desire to
be led until we are called out to be leaders.
The Group has reached that point in the perfection of its
organization when it desires only to be an organ of the
Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., and its
main object, as the Association's, is to spread the knowledge
of light and truth to others. We hope we have reached that
state when we no longer move as individuals, but as a body,
having one mind, one purpose, and one aim.
During these two years through the inspiration and help
derived through meditation and prayer, we have gotten out a
course of lessons that are now being studied by people
scattered throughout the United States. From the reports
received by those who have made a study of these lessons
great good is being received through them. As a group we
will find as we review them that we, too, receive renewed
strength and understanding of the aims and purposes of the
work.
One of the purposes of the Association, and therefore, one of
the purposes of the Norfolk Study Group No. 1, is the
organization of other study groups. We have been successful
in the organization of another group in our city. This
group, known as the Norfolk Study Group No. 2, is one of
which we are justly proud. There is not only a spirit of
cooperation in this group, but a desire for knowledge seldom
seen in a group of people so widely separated in religious
thought. The Study Group No. 1 stands ready, not only to
assist this group in every way it is able, but will organize
at any time other groups in the city if requested by those
interested.
From time to time throughout the course of our organization,
Group No. 1 has sponsored public meetings. To these meetings
people were invited whom the members thought might be
interested in the work. These meetings have proven very
successful so far as making the public better acquainted with
the work. Many have shown interest in group work that would
not have been reached otherwise. Then they have been a means
for the distribution of the literature of the Association, of
getting across to the people the class of readings that the
Association is offering and of letting them know that we, as
an organization, were seeking the highest that is offered to
the children of the Kingdom.
The group has been able through voluntary offerings to meet
all expenses promptly, finance the printing of the lessons,
and from time to time make a small contribution to the
Association. This has been accomplished with the greatest
ease, and no one has felt that there has been any great
burden placed upon them, but many have felt that they have
not given as they would have been glad to, had it been within
their power.
Lastly, the group, itself, has grown in knowledge of the laws
of vibration, knowledge of the laws of the forces. It has
grown in understanding, understanding of the power of prayer,
of healing, of love. Not that it has learned all, just a
little, but it has grown, advanced, climbed upward. It has
learned something of CO-OPERATION, of SELF, of a true IDEAL,
of FAITH, of FELLOWSHIP, of PATIENCE, of VIRTUE AND
UNDERSTANDING, of being IN HIS PRESENCE, of opening the DOOR
to the voice of the Master, [THE CROSS AND THE CROWN, THE
LORD THY GOD IS ONE] and last, but not least, of the Love
that passes understanding. [Group is now on lesson Love.]
It has learned that all the knowledge of man is nothing in
the sight of God, but rather the foolishness of God is
greater than all the wisdom that we may gather of ourselves.
And with this entrusted into our keeping, with the "calling
out" of the group being repeatedly stated, we have only to
stand ready with our lamps bright and burning, awaiting to
serve you, or any one, that needs to be served. It is our
hour of rejoicing in the Lord that we are counted worthy to
stand and wait in His service.
[GD's note: Above talk was used as the 4th article in the
7/33 A.R.E. Bulletin.]
JT's note: As of
4/09/87, there are approximately 1,400 SFG
groups world-wide based on the lessons given by Mr. Cayce to
Norfolk Study Group #1.
