(Q) Does this body take ample exercise of the right sort?
(A) This is a question. As much as is practical to be taken
in the open would be found to be more beneficial. Walking,
riding, golfing, rowing, - any of these would be most helpful
to the body.
Not sufficient in the present. Changes as are being wrought
may indicate a better opportunity, - but the body should
budget its time for recreation, for work, for sleep, and in
the recreation use that which is mental, physical and
spiritual. Know that all phases of the entity need that
activity as to keep each phase of the entity in better
accord.
(Q) The certificate of death issued for my brother gave the
cause as consumption, while I had been advised that he had a
cancer. State the correct cause of death.
(A) A matter of terms by those in charge, and making report
on same. This should not interfere with the body, [
270], in
any sense.
(Q) Am I correct in presuming that I am the only direct
heir?
(A) Correct.
(Q) Will his death delay closing my mother's estate, or
shall I proceed as planned?
(A) Proceed as planned. According to the laws and
certificates, there should be no disturbance in completing
the plan already outlined in the body's mind.
(Q) Will the property at 2314 West Jackson Blvd., Chicago,
be sold for $3,750 by October 18th?
(A) This depends upon just how much there is the effort to
do this. As we find, there may be some delay; but this
should be by the 18th or 20th at least.
(Q) Is it advisable to hold the property at 2309 West
Jackson Blvd., Chicago, for the present?
(A) Preferable to hold for the present.
(Q) Will the proposed trip to Chicago in October be
successful in cleaning up pending estate matters?
(A) It should be, almost in its entirety, or be so regulated
as not to require any great effort on the part of the entity
in concluding same, should any portion be left undone.
(Q) Will the factual foundation for the communication
investigation enable the present administration to approve
merger of Postal and Western Union this year?
(A) Not this year, but in next year.
(Q) How will this amalgamation of the facilities and forces
affect me?
(A) If there is the application of self in those directions
as indicated, and these are kept in an attitude of
helpfulness, it should aid the entity.
(Q) Is Western Union and International Telephone & Telegraph
still regarded as safe investment with enhancing value
possibilities?
(A) It is.
(Q) Will the plan to return certain work from Omaha to San
Francisco materialize January 1, 1940?
(A) It will in the main; possibly not wholly in fact before
March, but in the main will be as of January first.
(Q) Knowing that I would prefer to remain in San Francisco,
can you state my material status 'til January 1, 1940?
(A) This depends upon too many factors for saying as to a
definite condition, but it should in the main be most
satisfactory.
(Q) Under these circumstances should the purchase of a home
be considered at this time?
(A) We would defer until after March 15th.
(Q) When will the National Labor Board release its decision
concerning the Association - W.U. - employees matter now
pending before that body?
(A) In October or November.
(Q) Will this decision be favorable to the Association?
(A) In the long run, yes. At the first appearances, not so
favorable, but in the long run favorable.
(Q) State the duration and outcome of the present labor
disturbance here in San Francisco created by the C.I.O.
desire to organize messengers.
(A) This is a mooted question, and one that may not be set
as to days or hours. But as has been indicated in other
directions, these should be handled in a very delicate way
and manner. It will eventually work to the better advantage
of all concerned.
(Q) Should injunction proceedings be instituted to stop the
demoralizing effect and would such action be successful?
(A) This again will depend upon many of the other general
questions that are arising. But such an injunction would be
very well - to draw conditions to a head in a better way and
manner.
(Q) A proposal submitted by the company to its employees
through their collective bargaining agency (The Association
of Western Union Employees) to amend present pension
disability and death benefit plan. Will these amendments be
accepted in their present form or will the proposed plan be
modified and liberalized before acceptance by the employees?
(A) It will be modified and liberalized; but all of those
that hold the plans as were indicated some years ago should
hold to same, rather than having them changed into the new, -
until there is a better or more perfect understanding. For
with the changes, many of these would be modified, but the
old conditions would stand first.
(Q) I am not an active member of the Employees Association.
Should I accept these amendments that will abrogate a
company-employee contract applicable to him since the
existing plan became operative January 1, 1913?
(A) As just indicated, do not accept the abrogation of the
old conditions, for these will have first consideration with
changes as may be brought about by the union of activities in
the various companies.
(Q) Will the present Euporean conflict ultimately draw the
United States into this war?
(A) This depends upon a great many factors. As we find,
there are the indications that there will be involvement in
the long run of practically ALL of the nations - directly or
indirectly.
(Q) Will the United States be indirectly or directly
involved?
(A) As indicated, this depends upon a great many factors.
(Q) Can the duration of this conflict be measured at this
time in days dating from September 1, 1939?
(A) No; because there are too great a number of factors
involving those, - that will mean the readjustment of many of
the purposes and aims and desires of individuals in various
nations. And there must be an adjustment within each nation
as to a unity of purpose, and then these coordinated in a
united influence or force through the world.
This is the breaking up of many a nation.
(Q) Will the present neutrality act be amended to permit the
sale of war materials on a cash and carry basis?
(A) We are through for the present.
