5/08/71 Sister [
457]'s report for Background of [
257]'s
readings:
"About six years before we heard of Edgar Cayce, [
275]'s
condition of the femur was first noticed, when she was eleven
years old. Our maid saw her taking a bath and called my
mother in to see that one leg was smaller than the other;
thinner. Because she never complained, we did not know that
a part of the bone had wasted away, because of a main nerve
from the coccyx being injured in a fall, which prevented
nourishment going to the leg. Through the years the top of
the femur became eroded. The doctors thought, or suggested,
or intimated, she had T.B. of the bone. They wanted to open
up and take a look. They didn't promise that surgery would
correct the condition; she might not walk again, and the knee
would be stiff.
"Mother did not want to take a chance with the surgery, and
decided to use natural methods to try to restore the bone.
Doctors said she needed calcium. Of course, if this happened
today the doctors would know how to cope with the situation
surgically, but there was too much risk, Mother felt, at the
time.
"For four years before we had the original reading for [
275],
Mother was using only natural applications on [
275]; in fact,
outside of the original cast, which was on just a short
while, nothing unnatural was used. Perhaps if we had
recognized her condition earlier and started with osteopathy
to straighten out the coccyx, the erosion might have been
prevented.
"In February 1930 Dr. E. H. Merkley, osteopath, said to
Mother, 'Why don't you try Cayce?' She got in touch with
Dr. Grace C. Berger, osteopath, who had been treating people
who came to her with readings; she had also visited the Cayce
Hospital in Virginia Beach. Dr. Berger told Mother that Mr.
Cayce was in New York for a few days and she would see if she
could arrange an appointment. His reading 275-1 on
2/19/30
was the result." [

REPORTS
3/28/30 Miss [
275] came to the Cayce Hospital, with her
parents, Mr. [
378] and Mrs. [
255], to be treated for erosion
of head of the femur. The condition first became apparent,
they stated, in Feb. 1925.
4/01/30 She obtained Ck. Physical
275-2.
1/13/31 See mother's letter under
275-15 report in re dream
she had just prior to 275-1 warning not to have [
275]'s leg
operated or put in cast.
See subsequent Physical and Life Readings, with reports under
each.

inflammation in my hip was taken away through the
recommendations given in my physical readings, however I do
not think that the eyes of the world would say it was a
cure."
5/08/71 Sister [
457] reported to GD: "The first reading -
275-1 - warned of incipient cancer, but it was arrested
through following the readings; otherwise she would not be
living today. She improved steadily until the World War II
years when she was living in Germany with our parents and was
unable to obtain the calcium and vitamins she needed. When
she returned to America after the war she had developed a
hunchback. She never complained, and the family hadn't
realized that her diet deficiency was causing this condition.
She was unable to continue the things that were so necessary
for her improvement, according to the readings. On returning
here she picked up on the natural things Edgar Cayce
recommended and has been in good health, very active and
vibrant, although there is a noticeable limp and the
hunchback. She is a beautiful soul!"
