1/12/79 GD's letter (for [
275]'s birthday on 1/17th):
Dear, sweet [
275] -
As I think back over the years I have known and loved you, I
am reminded of a few quotes from the readings like these:
3253-2 - Who may tell the rose how to be beautiful? Who may
tell the snow how to be white? These come from the
experience of the entities that attune themselves to God.
These ye will find, then, in thy music, in thy home, in thy
love for art. In these ye may find the outlet. Teach others
- by precept, yes, but most of all by pattern.
2438-1 - For the peoples then understood - even better than
they do today - that the heavens declare the glory of God, as
to how nature SINGS His praises in the rebirth at each
period, each cycle, for its unfoldment and growth as
manifested in entities that are - as man - a manifestation of
His love in the earth.
3376-2 - Turn then to those things within. Know the law and
then apply it daily. Not by some great thing. Smile often.
Speak gently. Speak kindly. Go out of the way to do a kind
deed, and ye will find that He will walk closer with thee,
and thy life, thy purpose will become a glorious thing in
this experience.
1005-17 - Keep the mental attitude towards constructive
forces ever... Smile even though it takes the hide off.
Then: 275-45 - [From your OWN last reading] Much has been
given the body as to its mental and spiritual development...
seek within - use the energies that are known; for thy body
is indeed the temple of the living God - thy portion, thyself
is BEAUTIFUL before Him. Keep that attitude of
CONSTRUCTIVENESS, ever! For many, MANY will indeed call thee
blessed - if ye keep in the way ye have set before thee.
Attune thyself to the spheres IN thine own vibrations and
ways.
Let the Lord keep thee - He desires much of thee!
We are through for the present.
Several hundred of us continue to pray for you at the three
scheduled times daily (sunset, noon and bedtime), besides
some of us spot praying throughout the day and night. I
think, pray and hope, that He still needs you much longer on
this earth than He does "over there".
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Love and blessings to all of you - so dear.
Gladys

"We thought your birthday letter to [
275] was just beautiful!
We made copies for [
3172], [son [...]] and brothers [
452] and
[
282].
"I finally left her on the 18th after I was sure she had
recovered from her breathing problems and regained her
strength after the last operation. Went to [S.C.] to see
[daughter [
3172]] and arrived here [home] Tuesday the 23rd.
"At least now she can hold the telephone, so I can keep in
touch. She sits in a slanting wheel chair now several hours
a day and is getting stronger. I don't dare ask about her
legs. She moved her foot slightly before I left when I
prayed over them. And this is what we have to pray for -
renewed strength in her legs so that she can play the harp
again. This is what I believe that God intended with these
operations now so that He can heal her and she can spend the
rest of her life straight and play the harp to His glory.
What a tremendous miracle that will be." Love [

2/10/79 Sister [
457]'s letter to GD:
Since Dec. 11th she is in a "Halo" frame, a ring around her
head screwed into her skull, and another ring around and
screwed thru her hip. Two holes were drilled thru her hips
with rods going thru holding the ring. Two bars in front
and back are screwed into both rings, to keep her spine
immobile and permit healing. To strengthen her back, because
a number of vertebrae had to be removed, they took a section
of bone from both legs and parts from her hip, fused onto her
spine, as well as inserting metal rods. She is not in pain
apparently. It just feels tight. She can move her arms and
they are getting stronger. Although she has feeling in her
legs, she has not yet movement control...
She is still in the "Halo" frame, but can spend two hours
each day in a RECLINING wheelchair. Can't sit straight
because the screws in hip would push into thighs.
Arms are getting stronger with this additional exercise. She
can eat faster, doesn't get so tired.
X-rays indicate good healing in the bone fusion and Doctor is
very encouraged.
Now awaiting anxiously some sort of "girdle" which should
make it possible to eliminate the hip ring and screws. Also
she should be able to sit straight and have more physical
therapy.
She has no self control of movement in legs yet, but both she
and physical therapist seem to feel a difference inside.
Doctor has implied that she MIGHT be able to go to a
rehabilitation hospital by March. Also that this center
could be closer to home.
Please keep praying.
4/22/79 Sister [
457]'s letter to GD:
"Three weeks ago, 3/30th, [
275] was flown by special
arrangement, through a father of one of [
275]'s & [
276]'s
kindergarten students, to a rehabilitation hospital near
Philadelphia. She is getting a lot more specialized physical
therapy and is notably stronger. She is in a wheel chair
most of the day. [
275] is also happy to be able to help
[
276] with bookkeeping, reports, craft work preparation, as
well as on the spot advice. She is even doing some sewing
for her...
"She is scheduled to go back to Mass. General, Boston, on
6/6th to have the 'Halo' taken off, hopefully; also lots of
Xrays to test the strength of her back and see what kind of
support she might need...
"Of course, as I mentioned in the last report [
275] still has
the two bars in front and back, fastened to the 'Halo' on top
and the girdle at the hips.
"The young peoples' Marathon brought in $2,000. Isn't that
wonderful? This together with the gifts sent to the [
275]
Fund covered the hospital expenses to date not covered by
Medicare. There is no bill from the doctor as yet. We are
grateful to all those who have helped us...
"Keep A.R.E. praying!"
8/27/79 Sister [
457]'s letter to GD:
Latest report on Sister [
275].
End of June [
275] was back in Mass. General Hospital. After
Xrays and much measuring, she was fitted with a fibreglass
support in two parts, front and back, fastened with Velco
straps on sides, so it can be removed at night, This she
finds wonderful. There is also a head support front and
back. Did you know your head weighs approximately 20 pounds?
The supports are needed because she hasn't used her neck
muscles for 7 months.
By July 10th [
275] was back in the Pennsylvania Rehab.
Hospital, and learned in 2 1/2 weeks to move herself from the
bed to her wheelchair and back, and also from chair to car
and back.
Since July 28th she is home in ... A special ramp has been
built so she can come in and out of the back door, Xrays
were taken last week and she hopes to be allowed to eliminate
the head supports.
There is no sign of voluntary movement in her legs as yet.
Keep praying. With God nothing is impossible.

3/10/80 Sister [
457]'s letter to GD:
Another report on [
275].
[
275] has come a long, long way since a year and a half ago,
but she is still confined to a wheelchair. So she needs your
prayers, every one.
Last Fall she was allowed to leave off the torso support
gradually, and since December has not been wearing any at
all. Her arms were already strong enough to lift herself
from chair to bed, or to passenger seat in the car. The
doctor was very pleased with the last Xrays showing
everything staying in place in her back. Now in the last
months she is strengthening her back muscles. She started
acupuncture treatments last November and by Christmas could
move her left foot. This has increased, but there is no sign
yet in the right leg.
However, both sisters [
275] & [
276] are active again with
their hobby - dog training. They have important positions in
two dog clubs, and this keeps them busy every day. The clubs
show their appreciation in very practical way.
[
275] made a promise to us two years ago before all her
troubles started. When she arrived home last summer she
ordered a harp for which she did not need her feet. It
arrived just a week before our big Golden Wedding celebration
on November 24, 1979, so she did not have much time to
practice. But at the evening dinner party for relatives,
close friends, several from our original bridal party, the
two sisters surprised us and played "Silent Night".
(Afterwards I found out that [
275] was under great strain
because her balance muscles were not yet strong.) Everyone
remarked about not only [
275]'s courage, but the beautiful,
spiritual serenity on her face.
Miss [
275] passed away at age 80 on Thanksgiving morning,
11/26/92.
