(Q) Should I remain in present business?
(A) As we find, there are many conditions to be considered
when asking or seeking counsel respecting a change in the
mental and the physical activities, as to the relations of
self with individuals and others.
As we have given from time to time respecting the abilities,
and that which may be accomplished by the entity, all these
should be taken into consideration and some thought given
respecting same.
For the present, as we find, we would not change. By the
first of the coming year, or when there are changes in
material conditions in the affairs of the body's associates,
then it might be well to consider a change.
Weigh all things well; the abilities of self, the
surroundings, the life, the associations, and that the body
would do with its mental self.
That which may be accomplished by the surrounding of self,
through meditative influences, with the Creative Forces that
may guide, guard and direct, would have much to do with that
which may be determined within self.
(Q) Is C. R. Porter a good associate in this business?
(A) A good associate for Porter; and that does not primarily
mean for [
279]!
(Q) How should the responsibilities be divided between the
two?
(A) Each have their weaknesses and each have their good
points; each have their contacts, and that which makes for
the material successes in the business in hand.
Then, these should be divided according to the ability of the
individuals to meet the various situations.
COOPERATIVELY, then, divide the responsibilities.
(Q) What is the best field for us to follow - package or
bulk business?
(A) As a field, BULK. While less in the proportion, greater
in the quantity - and the proportion becomes equalized. We
wouldn't give up package business, however.
(Q) Will Porter succeed in making contracts with Associated
Merchandising Corp.? If so, when?
(A) This is capable of being accomplished. As to how, or
when it will be, we do not see. Capable of being
accomplished!
(Q) With Cavendish Trading Corp.?
(A) Yes, and within the near future.
(Q) Will the fall bring us the contract for wax for R. H.
Macy & Co.?
(A) It should, if it's held out that long; and carrying out
the other propositions and contracts that have been given.
(Q) Any suggestions as to how we can develop these accounts?
(A) With Cavendish & Company, this is already - as given -
practically set. With the other securities corporations that
have been promised, some others - through some other
channels; but these may be worked out - although requiring
persistence and the right contacts, with directions; but keep
on working.
(Q) Any new field recommended?
(A) We would carry on in all of those that have been
offering their propositions. The hotels offer still, of
course, the better propositions for the bulk business.
(Q) Will Raymond Kahn be a good addition to our company?
[DEK's brother]
(A) If he can be persuaded to be in a smaller town, or
farther away, rather than in the larger, he would be an
excellent addition!
(Q) What should his duties be?
(A) That's indicated by where they would be performed!
(Q) What section would you suggest he be sent?
(A) This has been already given!
(Q) Should I try to make some additional capital by
investments in the market?
(A) We would not advise it, under the present conditions.
These may be made, but there's too great an opportunity for
losses.
Of course, any of those propositions in the line that pertain
to malts or brewery interests, purchased low, will make
money.
(Q) Should I consider going back to the stock and bond
business?
(A) No.
(Q) Should I spend any time in trying to have the songs of
Major Horwitz published?
(A) It's worth considering!
(Q) What channels should I use?
(A) The connections with the orchestra leaders.
(Q) Any other suggestions for me?
(A) Consider well what has been given as to how self may be
developed, through the very things that - at the most - make
for the greatest fear in the physical body.
Weigh this all well. While there are necessarily conditions
to be considered, and prices that must be paid when
considered from purely a material standpoint or life, yet
contentment, peace, harmony, CAN come through these - as from
no other source.
We are through for the present.

BACKGROUND
7/11/33 He submitted questions for Ck. Physical
279-18 and
for Business Rdg. 279-19, saying: "It somehow gives me some
hope to feel that I may get some helpful suggestions from the
readings, as I have in the past."
REPORTS
7/18/33 He wrote: "I think there were some very fine points
in the Business Rdg. I'm frank to admit, parts of it puzzled
me. But I do think it will be helpful. Probably in a few
weeks I'll have another check Business Rdg., when a few of
the things I am personally working on have had a chance to
develop a little further. It's strange but I have felt that
Porter, so far, has been better for Porter than for me. But
I am firmly convinced if handled properly we can make Porter
good for all! I feel he is willing. I guess it's up to me
to push him so that he gives full labor to the work, and
concentrated effort. My only criticism of him now is that
he doesn't follow through entirely with what he starts. But
I'm honest enough with myself to say that I'm not doing that
100% either. That, I think, is my hardest battle. I KNOW
that if I give complete and concentrated effort I get
results. That's what my 'physical worries' have done to me
[see 279-18], and that's why I'm so anxious to overcome them.
I do hope I am on the road to a complete mastery of myself.
I feel that you are giving me great assistance, and I can
only continue faithfully at this work, and be fair to myself,
and I am certain we should be successful."
10/31/33 See
254-70, Par. 14-A personal message.
12/11/33 He wrote: "A couple of very peculiar things have
happened with regard to past information you gave me. Some
of the things you told me months ago seem to be working out
now, when they didn't look like it at all, at first. But,
that is the way of the information, isn't it?"
2/13/34 "We have been quite busy, and I honestly believe
this spring will see the definite solution to my financial
problems. At least I will be in such position as to see
daylight, and plan for much better things. I am sure of our
ability to progress, in a business way.
"I am not so sure, however, about my health. It is mainly
about that I am writing you now."
2/17/34 EC gave him Ck. Physical
279-20.
6/26/34 "I am in the midst of a serious situation as far as
my financial future, and business career, is concerned... I
have never in my life been in a more difficult situation, and
I only hope I can extricate myself in such a manner as to
leave me free to accomplish something for myself in the
future."
9/25/34 "There have been a couple of developments recently
that I sure would like to 'sit in on' at a rdg. First of all
one of my partners (Porter) is leaving our company. I think
it should make things much better for me. But there are many
questions I would like to ask about it."
10/27/34 "Business has gone ahead with leaps and bounds.
We are doing better than ever, and if I can continue thru
next few mos. at present rate I will be on my feet again!"
8/15/35 He wrote: "I still am sorely beset by financial
woes. I do think this fall is going to see the beginning of
better things, and believe we have a chance of paying
dividends the end of this year. I certainly could use lots
of dividends!"
2/24/41 He wrote on a letterhead of a washing machine
company, with his name listed as President; enclosing
donation to the vault fund for housing the readings:
"No doubt you have felt that I have completely lost interest
in you and your work. That is not so. I have been working
very hard, trying to regain some of my former affluence and
a place in the sun. It has been difficult all the way, and
only in the last year or so I have been able to feel that I
am finally on the way to success again. Whether I shall
reach my goal remains to be seen. My prospects are good, but
I cannot class myself as being firmly entrenched yet. There
is always the danger of biting off more than one can chew.
At least I am in something which keeps me thoroughly
interested and which I like. Therefore, it is not difficult
for me to work hard."
8/04/42 "I am of the opinion and hope that I will be able to
maintain my business and continue at the present rate, which
is satisfactory, although not sensational."
6/23/50 GD's note: Mr. [
257], here for the A.R.E. Congress,
told me today that Mr. [
279] died early this summer - he
thinks last month.
