12/07/79 GDT to Charles Thomas Cayce:
Yesterday Marianne told us you wanted comments on the (Eric
Perlman?) film MEDITATION: THE ONE WITHIN, since you would
not be able to see it.
I enjoyed the beautiful nature scenes and the Sufi Dancing
but, in my opinion, it had nothing to do with Meditation as
we have been taught it through the readings. The beautiful
young lady sitting in Hindu pose apparently saw herself
flitting across meadows, climbing mountains, examining the
intricacies of nature unfolding. [Also - toward the end -
she saw colors weaving themselves into designs moving around
her (seals, mandalas, etc.); some nice and some not so nice,
I thought.] An East Indian guru (?) spoke briefly saying
"This is meditation [the Zen kind?]." At the end the young
lady got up, smiled, pondered the whole thing, and ran over
the hills happy. The final statement was something like
this: "If you come to know yourself, the One Within, you
are one with the whole world."
It seemed to me simply a period of daydreaming on the girl's
part. I think we should develop some good films on
meditation, based on some actual sessions such as held on the
recent Egyptian and Israeli tour by the Puryears and Mark
Thurston group.
