GLAD HELPERS - Meeting of January 21, 1935 at the Home of
Florence and Edith Edmonds, Norfolk, Va., 8:00 P.M.
After attending the regular business of the group, Florence
Edmonds, Chairman, presented a number of questions regarding
healing work that had been raised by the Washington Glad
Helpers group. Edith Edmonds read some letters from this
group on problems confronting them at this time which they
need counsel and guidance upon.
Mrs. Harrell, secretary to the Washington Glad Helpers asked
in a letter for a definite program to follow in order to
simplify and bring the group into a more complete
understanding as to ways and means of conducting their
meetings.
Hugh Lynn Cayce was of the opinion that we could only
suggest to this group what we had found helpful rather than
laying down set rules to follow. It was the concensus of
opinion that this would be the better way. Suggestions were
asked for.
Gladys Davis pointed out that the purpose of the Glad Helpers
meetings is to attend to the business and to stimulate the
workers, and that the real healing should be done at the
regular meditation periods. The purpose also should be the
raising of the Christ Consciousness instead of attempting to
heal at these meetings which various members of the
Washington group have, apparently, been trying to do, using
their various ways and methods of healing, which has brought
questions and confusion. All present seemed to think Gladys
was correct in her views.
It was also the concensus of opinion that members of the Glad
Helpers Group do not necessarily have to be members of the
Association.
It was decided that visitors should not be barred from Glad
Helpers meetings.
It was decided that it would not be necessary for those who
had asked for prayer to come to the meetings, though it would
be all right for them to attend, but not for the purpose of
being healed.
When the subject of the laying on of hands for healing was
brought up, it was thought better to tell this group things
to do rather than not to do, when the danger of such a method
without proper precautions was pointed out, also, that we
could pass on only that which we had found helpful. Rather,
stress the raising of the Christ Consciousness in each one,
and the various methods and problems will take care of
themselves.
Question brought up as to what kind of prayer - it was
thought each individual should use his own method of praying,
or use the affirmations sent them by the Glad Helpers.
Another question regarding application blanks - are they to
be sent direct by the Glad Helpers' secretary in Norfolk to
the individuals or to be sent out by each Glad Helpers group,
as a unit? It was pointed out by Hugh Lynn Cayce that
Florence Edmonds had been chosen by the readings as one to
select the different names for the various members of the
Glad Helpers to hold. It was decided to present this
question in a reading. Florence Edmonds indicated she would
work on the various lists and periods for individuals to hold
and submit them to the reading.
Announcement was made of Esther May Barrett's musical recital
in Norfolk on February 26, at which time the groups are
requested to sit in a body, and to get their tickets early so
as to get good seats.
The subject of Mr. Parry's choral work and his offer to
devote one night a week to instructing members of the
Association and groups. It was generally understood that
Tuesday evenings would be the most feasible for the most to
attend, and that the Ragged Robin would be a good central
meeting place.
Mrs. Harris suggested that the healing group meet at least
twice a month, with one day a month devoted to fasting and
prayer, from eleven to four o'clock, and the other one
devoted to business, to be held in the evening. It was
decided this was a good plan, and all were urged to make a
special effort to attend these meetings, especially the one
for fasting and prayer, making sacrifices to come, if
necessary.
Florence Edmonds then lead a very short but inspiring
devotional.
Mildred Davis, Acting Sec'ty.
