"I received your last reading, and was a little surprised to
have you make the statement as follows:
"These manipulations we would take osteopathically, WILL
THEY BE APPLIED." As I have written you, I thought that I
had been taking Osteopathic treatments. However, Dr.
Taylor [Alfred A. Taylor?, D.C.] is a Chiropractor, but he
said he could follow your instructions and treat me
Osteopathically, as he could do both. I take it from your
wording, "Will they be applied" that he did not treat me
osteopathically at all.
"I am now being treated by Dr. Benedict [A. V. Benedict, D.O.
ASO '12] who is an Osteopath, and a graduate from one of the
older schools. I have forgotten the name of the school. His
treatment is entirely different from Dr. Taylor. He straps
my feet to the foot of the table that I lie on, and then he
puts his arms under mine and pulls and stretches me until I
can hear the bones crack, and I believe I am about an inch
taller now, and I have taken only two treatments thus far,
and can walk all over town and am feeling fine. I am to take
another treatment tomorrow - three treatments per week for
two or three weeks. He thinks he can straighten me out
entirely in that time. Of course he does a lot of other
work besides the stretching me out, but he says that is the
main thing which will relieve the pressure that is causing
the trouble with my heart action. He says, too, that Dr.
Barnes is all wrong.
"I will write you again in a week or ten days."

I will be o.k. again. My throat and chest hurt again same as
before [see 287-7]."
2/24/32: "I am better but not able to do anything. I can
walk now without hurting me much, but can't walk fast.
Should I take sweats? Have taken eight treatments by Dr.
Benedict, and am getting better but not gaining fast like I
did last spring. Maybe I should take sweats or Turkish baths
as I did last spring. Wish you would take a ck. rdg., as I
must get well so I can work again. I want to build another
house this summer - I just feel fine if I don't move about.
but suffer awful if I walk fast or stoop over quick. Have
had a severe sore place in my left chest, about three inches
below top of shoulder, and still sore but better today."
