EC's dreams not interpreted:
1. Saturday Morning, Jan. 15, 1927. It seemed we had started
to Florida, but instead landed in London. [
900] was to read
his book before some big club or something, and we all were
going to hear him. We got in peculiar looking vehicles drawn
by horses. Miss Gladys and Gertrude were in one of these in
front, while the rest of us were behind in another carriage.
Presently a little peculiar carriage flew past us, and
Gertrude stuck her head out of the carriage in front and
said, "That was Mr. [
195]." I said I had thought it looked
like [
195]. We saw that he stopped in front of a hotel, so
we decided to stop by and see him. I got out and stood in
front of a sort of gate to the hotel, instead of a door,
where people registered. I asked for [
195] and the door man
went to get him. I looked inside and saw a bar, with people
standing around drinking. Finally [
195] came out, and he was
drunk and reeling from one side to the other. He said he
wanted to go with us, but I'd have to wait a few minutes
until he got in shape, as he hadn't intended for anyone to
see him in this shape, and he couldn't meet the others
looking like this. He went back in and I saw him mix a drink
of three colors in a glass, one color standing on top of the
other, etc. He drank it, and then straightened up and shook
himself and didn't seem to be drunk at all. Then he came on
out and said he would take Gertrude and Miss Gladys in his
carriage. So we all started then to hear [
900] read his
book.
2. I saw a railroad, and a horse and buggy - the horse
running away. In the back of the buggy Thomas House and
other school boys, it seemed, were scrambling to-gether. The
horse stopped right in front of the railroad track all of a
sudden, and it threw the boys out. I asked Thomas what was
the trouble, and he answered something and started running
after the boys. Then I saw Aunt Kate [Smith] and Mama [Mrs.
Evans] and Carrie [House] come out and lay down side by side.
I tried to get them up, but they each said they were dead or
dying. I went inside a car of some kind where Porter and his
dead brother, it seemed, were sleeping. I tried to get
Porter [Smith] to come and help me get the women to the house
or somewhere, but he insisted that I let him alone and wake
up the other fellow. There I awoke.
3. Then I was going to Hopkinsville to tell the folks about
the above dream I had about them. When I got there they were
all sitting in the front yard eating watermelon. I started
to tell them, but I saw Miss Carrie knitting away real fast
and admonishing everyone to be quiet. Then Aunt Kate came
out - at least Gertrude insisted it was Aunt Kate, but I knew
it couldn't be, for she was all black. She came out and sat
down.
1. Monday Morning, Jan 17, 1927. "Dream regarding Miss
Willie and I going to be married - then railroad trip to
Florida - Miss Willie getting on train with two babies - then
a wreck. On the night of Dec. 23 or morning of 24, 1926, I
had a similar dream. What do these mean?"
