(Q) Am I doing myself, [
257] and the [
257] Corp., any good
by continuing to work for them, feeling the way I do?
(A) This depends upon the attitude of self.
Considered from the purely MATERIAL standpoint, yes.
Considered from the mental attitude of self, no.
Considered from the basis - as we find - of the thought in
self, yes.
Then, we have two to one.
What, then, should the body DO about the situation?
Look about self. There is, as we have given, the
possibility, the probability, that the body - with its
development, from the mental poise, the mental attitude of
the body - may enter into the field of endeavor which is as a
teaching to others, through the activities of the body is
ACTING - or in becoming, for the time being, and
exemplification of a character - a thought - to impress some
truth, some lesson, upon the mind of others.
The entity, then, may become a success in this field, in one
or another ways and manners; yet at the present - when all
conditions are considered, first the body-physical, second
the body-temperamental, under both physical and general
economic conditions over the country - it would be to self
suicidal to enter wholeheartedly, or dependently, free of
other associations or connections - upon such a field of
activity.
Then, it would be necessary that either a middle road be
chosen - wherein this, for the present, may not be cast
wholly out of self's experience - or this be forgotten
entirely, and cast self in a wholehearted manner into the
work of the organization in which the body finds self in the
present associated and identified. What would be the future
in either of these?
In the first, to cast self loose - by breaking wholly with
the association - would be disappointments, breaking of
illusionments, and the general undoing, with a return to the
same character of work or activity in a new surrounding that
would make for further and further discouragements - at least
for the time being.
With the present associations there may be the holding TO
that, which may for the present be used as rather the
tendency for the activities of self; not as a habit, not
being wholly dependent upon it, but rather as a hobby, a
DEFINITE hobby.
And, after full and sincere analysis of self, should self
find that the opportunities, the calls from within demand
that self be given (considering it in the light of what has
been given, as to how to analyze self) - and the call comes,
then harken!
We are through for the present.

REPORTS
7/13/33 She reported on Life Rdg.
352-1 for her sister, then:
As far as my reading is concerned, of course, it's perfect,
although frankly, I haven't started the osteopathic
treatments yet. Apart from the money angle, I've been very
busy and very much upset by the income tax examiner who came
after Mr. [
257], as he may have explained to you, and that of
course, has made the back of my head ache so much more.
Sometimes I wonder if it's at all worth while, when people
don't reciprocate to you in their consideration, when asked,
especially. However; I'm taking the month of August off and
am going up to Newport. Minna Phillips is playing in the
stock company up there all summer, and she has arranged for
me to come up for the month and I will get special rates in
board. The fare is also very little.
9/18/33 "I read my last rdg. over very carefully, and believe
that 'the call' has come. So much has happened... I think I
have really proven myself to [Mr. [
257]] to be a sincere,
loyal friend, and would do anything I could for his sake, but
I really feel that sometimes we can spoil people by doing too
much for them, and that the burden must at some time or other
fall on them, so they can be proven worthy. My instinct
within tells me irrevocably that this is the time for me to
leave [
257]."
