9/13/40 "I now have some real news for you and I guess you
can imagine what it is. Maybe you're not surprised but I
guess I am. I have definite confirmation from the doctor so
I guess it is more or less official, although it probably
won't happen until about Easter. Of course, [
2573] and the
family are delighted but so far with me it hasn't seemed to
really penetrate as yet. I guess it will, soon enough.
"I'm terribly grateful to you and when the rdg. stated that I
needed to rest, that was all the assurance I wanted. I knew
it would happen ultimately, and when it did, that my health
would be ever so much improved. The funny part of it is that
I had been expecting to look for a job this Fall because I
have a few outstanding debts, I guess they could be called -
among which the reading is one, but now I don't want to take
a chance at jeopardizing anything, by working, as I don't
feel it would do me any good."
9/18/40 EC's letter: "May His richest blessings be with
you... May the loveliest soul, ever, come to you at this
time. Take real good care of yourself. That, of course you
know, is most necessary. Eat the right things and think the
right thoughts, if you would have the best."
