This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 27th day of January, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [371], new Associate Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Born October 1, 1898, in Dayton, Ohio.

TEXT

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth's plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the entity here, and those records made by same.
3. In giving the interpretations, as we find FEW have appreciated the abilities of the entity in this experience; especially as to its abilities in those directions as intuitive influences or psychic forces. These have been innate, and have at times found expression, and others have been subjugated by the entity owing to conditions or environs.
4. The entity is one very intuitive, irrespective of what it may do or has done about same; with quite an ability as a leader or director in whatever undertaking is begun. For innately the entity sees most any proposition from the viewpoint of a man, for of course it was a man in the appearance before this.
5. One innately interested in all oriental forces or influences, and hence quite attuned to vibrations, or things that have to do with elemental forces. Yet naturally or intuitively the entity is given to those things of a spiritual nature, yet weighting most all with reason; which not always meets the approval of those with whom the entity may be speaking or arguing.
6. In giving the astrological aspects which arise as intuitive forces or influences, we find Venus, Mercury, Uranus, Neptune.
7. Water - especially running water - should always be near to the entity. For the abilities in influences respecting same bring such vibrations as to raise or arouse the intuitive forces.
8. One who, from the Venus sojourn, is sympathetic; loving pets and those things that it may control or direct by its own very emotions; making for the abilities to create those environs which are befitting its activities and surroundings.
9. Thus there are the abilities to adjust itself to whatever circumstance may be the lot of the entity, though never quite satisfied - unless in the position to direct.
10. In the Uranian influence we find the extremes, and especially the interest in occult conditions or those pertaining to the higher mental forces.
11. From Neptune, as indicated, we find water as an influence; and especially colors, or lacy surroundings, or fancy dress, - a great deal of embellishment in whatever activity the entity may undertake, with a great deal of frills in same.
12. As to the appearances in the earth, we find these very varying in their APPARENT experience, - yet we will find them in keeping with that which the entity may apply in the present.
13. Before this we find the entity was in the land of the present environments, and among those called the Indians; being a medicine man, with the abilities to direct, the abilities to use nature's activities for the controlling of and the directing of the activities of many of its peoples.
14. With change of environs we find there was not exactly a banishment of the entity, but rather it was the choice of the entity through the experience to attempt to gain the broader associations with other groups through the lands of its present nativity.
15. Thus we find the entity innately, and manifestedly, is acquainted with those activities, naturally, of many groups, of many places; whether it pertains to peoples and their activities or to the abilities for the production of things as would be used for conveniences or as means for barter or exchange.
16. The entity is a home-building body, from those experiences; yet apparently the activities were such as to belie same. But it is the union of strength as was sought by the entity that makes for those influences in the present, bringing the binding of those associated in union activities, in whatever environ it may be.
17. Before that we find the entity was in the English land, as now known, during those periods of the early expansion of that land; when there were the turmoils with not only those of the Norse land but of the Huns, as well as those peoples who came from the southernmost portion of what is now called the European land.
18. The entity was among the Vikings, the peoples strong in might and power; giving to the peoples and to those activities many sons and daughters during that sojourn; in the name Sarah Shugonaught.
19. From that household arose the groups from which there has materially come the blood of those who are in force and power in that land today.
20. Hence as we find, virility, vitality, - yet those fears, and conditions which have come into the experience of injuries at times to the extremities of the body; as these were sources of disturbance to the entity through that experience.
21. In the present from that sojourn we will find the abilities to judge activities or labors of others, the abilities of others to act in the capacity of messengers, peacemakers or the like, and the inclination for the entity to judge activities of others in whatever sphere or range of service that may be a part of others in their associations.
22. These may be for good or they may be for bad. Find not fault, but give rather of self in creating - by thought as well as activity - the environ for constructive influence.
23. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as the Promised Land, during those periods when there were those activities in which there was the besieging of the land by the Assyrians; when the entity's peoples were carried away into captivity, for the entity was a granddaughter then of the King of Judah.
24. Thence the entity was of the royal household, as it were; in the name Zephefna.
25. In the experience the entity suffered many hardships, yet making for - in the land to which the peoples were taken - many of those experiences and conditions that brought betterments for the entity's peoples; by the very abilities as a soothesayer, as a reader of the signs in the skies as well as in the sands.
26. For the entity was not a soothesayer but an astrologer in that land, during its sojourn there.
27. Hence the like or love of freedom arises from that experience; also the abilities to meet situations.
28. Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land, during those periods when there were the disturbances, the turmoils.
29. There we find the entity, during the banishment of the Priest, undertook to use the tenets as had been a part of the Priest's activity, to turn same into self's own use, to gain a position and a place.
30. These brought disturbing forces in the experience of the entity, and only with the variations as arose, through the return of the Priest and the activities of the Atlanteans, was the opportunity brought for the entity to so conduct itself in that experience as to again gain favor with those in position, or individuals in the position of trust and of religious as well as educational activity.
31. There we find the entity was in the name Aarr-tenta; close, of course, to the Native activity, yet of a Native descent AND of the peoples coming in from the Persian land.
32. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, and that to which it may attain, and how:
33. First, as to how; know that, as ye have experienced through thy material sojourns, each entity has its job, as well as its privilege, its opportunity, and these are to be used purposefully and not for a selfish motive but in those directions as may be in the glorifying of that cause or purpose or creative force for which, for the indwelling with which, each is preparing self.
34. Thus in the manner as ye treat thy fellow man, so ye do to thy Maker.
35. Study then to show thyself approved unto thy Maker, a workman not ashamed; but rightly EVALUING the experiences, and His promises in thy association with thy fellow man.
36. Thus ye may bring harmony as well as constructive forces into the experience of those with whom ye associate day by day.
37. Then, love ye righteous judgement.

39. (Q) Why have I never had any children?
    (A) Not meant to be in this experience.
40. (Q) Would you advise my husband and I to adopt one? and if so, where should we go for the child?
    (A) In those institutions where these are cared for. As is thy prompting, KNOW the history of such an one; but by ALL means adopt one - or two.
41. (Q) Would my husband's mother be happier living with us than in her own home living by herself?
    (A) If there is the adoption, do not have others. If there is not, be very well. WE would choose the child.
42. (Q) Should we buy the building we are in now, or have our home outside and Dr. [589]'s office downtown in an office building?
    (A) This, too, should depend upon the choice. If it is for the building or making of a home and that environ for others, then a home outside; not own the building, but a home.
43. (Q) Who can Dr. [589] get as an assistant in the office, one he can trust, so his work will be lighter?
    (A) This should be approached from other sources or channels, for it is only of a passing interest to the entity; but should be from the Des Moines school.

BACKGROUND

1. She obtained a Physical Rdg., 371-1, on 7/10/33, and her husband, Dr. [589] [D.C.], had previous Mental-Spiritual Rdgs. She witnessed his 589-3 on 8/24/34.
2. 1/16/39 She requested a Life Rdg., 1/20/39 submitting questions, including: "My general health is in better condition than it ever has been, so can the condition be corrected so I can have children? What college should we send the students to, that wish to take up chiropractic?" Etc.

REPORTS

1. 2/07/39 "Rec'd the rdg. and was somewhat surprised, and when you wrote and said you thought it was very good it made me feel so much better. There are a number of things I do not understand, and you said you would be so kind and help me. So many experiences here on this earth I do not understand. One is the Neptune sign. In fact all of the experiences here on earth I need a clearer understanding. If you help me in any way I will be so thankful.
   "Am sorry about no children. We both wanted them and I have been after Dr. [589] to adopt one or two but I have not been able to persuade him to do so."
2. 2/13/39 EC's letter: "Wish I could sit down and talk with you about this, might do so much better, but will do my best. Will try and get Hugh Lynn when he finds time to review the entire rdg. for you, but he is away and quite busy at present. He is a much better explainer than I am. He has made a special study of the Life Readings for 7-8 yrs.
   "The information, Mrs. [371], differs from astrology, in that it, the information, says between the times we are in the earth we have a consciousness in these other planes - Neptune, Venus, Jupiter, and the like - not as physical bodies as we know them here but ones suited to that planet; hence we have intuitions from such sojourns, not consciously but flashes to a physical consciousness. Thus are we ruled by them.
   "As to material appearances in the earth plane, they influence us about like the difference in your living in the environment of Ohio and of North Carolina - you may think alike in each place but your surroundings require that you act a bit different.
   "I believe the paper I'm sending you under separate cover will help you understand the terms, etc." [1/33 article by HLC entitled Life Readings - see under 2265-1, Par. R9.]
3. 4/03/39 "I have been wondering if you would go over my rdg. again and write and tell me what would be a good vocation for me to take up to make a living at. Dr. [589], ever since Xmas, has been doing everything in his power to get me to leave him. Out of a clear sky he told me he did not want me any more. I have been so hurt and humiliated by him that I just can't stand much more. We have been married 18 1/2 yrs. and I have stood by him in everything, so this is such a slap in the face. It has only been through prayers of others for me that I have been able to keep on going. Don't know where I will go. My sister was here [Dr. [666]'s wife] and I can go back to Ohio. So will you please write me any advice you can give me? I will so appreciate it. I know you all understand the rdgs. so much better than I do."
4. 4/05/39 EC's reply: "Yours of the 3rd, I believe, was as great a shock as I ever had in my life. I wish I might talk with you, but I'm sure you wish to know what I think the rdg. indicates you could do. Of course it says any line of endeavor you may choose you can succeed, yet I realize everything has to be taken into consideration. From the suggestions I'm sure that any in which you might make application of your healing abilities would be best, such as an attendant in office of a physiotherapist, masseur or the like, that you can get without a great deal of cost or time, and I'm sure you could do the very best in same - if that sort of thing appeals to you. Of course you will have to be sold on your own ability to do the thing you choose to work at, but your application both as the medicine man and the astrologer, especially fits you for helping others in such a way. You, of course, have great psychic abilities that you have allowed to remain submerged. These would naturally assert themselves as you worked for and with other in such a manner.
   "So, if you have to choose, something in that direction will fit in with your abilities and give you an outlet for your virtues."
5. 11/23/39 See husband's 589-4 advising that his mental attitude is cause of his physical ills.
6. 11/12/42 "Have been thinking about you good folks for a long time and hoping you all are just fine.
   "I have been in ..., [Ohio] with my sister [wife of Dr. [666]] for 3 yrs. now. Have been working in a florist shop. I like my work very much and am so thankful - have been getting along just fine.
   "I have mislaid my Life Rdg. I would like to know if I could get a copy of it and what would be the charges. Also a friend of mine wants to know the charge of a Life and also a Physical Rdg...
