This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 29th day of April, 1934, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [416], new Active Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Miss [288].

TEXT

1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [416], present in this room; also the information which has been given him through this channel, upon which he seeks expansion, clarification, and further information, advice and guidance as to how he may make practical application of such in his present life. After giving such a reading, you will then answer the questions he submits, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [416], present in this room, and the information that has been given respecting this body and the soul activity in the varied environs that influence the body in its present experience.
3. Then, in aiding the body to make a practical application of that which has been or may be given in information of such a nature or through such a channel, it would be well that the body understand as to how and from what sources such information may come; that there may be seen as to how practical that which may be given may be made in the self's own experience in this particular period.
4. When there is the thought or the activity of the body in any particular environ, this very activity makes for the impressions upon the soul. For, the soul is that body which lives on into infinity, and is the companion of the particular body only in a particular or individual experience.
5. As to the records made by such an activity, these are written upon what is known as time or space; much in the form or manner as are the messages that are of a familiar nature to the body in its present activity. As the instruments of recording are used, so does the activity of ENERGY expended leave its imprint upon the etheric wave that records between time and space that DESIRED to be put, as to that impelling or producing. Just as the figures or characters make for communications between individuals, so does the soul upon the pages or records of time and space.
6. Then, this body through whom the information comes being in accord or attune, by the subjugation of consciousness into materiality, becomes the channel through which such records may be read.
7. The interpretation of the records, then, depends upon how good a reader the body is, or how well in accord with the varied experiences through which the entity seeking has passed - or the records that have been made by that soul. Hence, there may be much more of a detailed record read of an experience through which both souls passed, than of environs that were not a portion of that soul so interpreting the activities.
8. But each soul as this, [416], has made a definite record just as clear as that which may be written with ink and pen or with any other type, style or form of transmitting or recording that activity of an individual soul.
9. Then, in using that which has been given respecting this soul's activity in the earth, that there may be the greater influences in the experience in the present, it is just the same activity as the training of a mind into those fields of activity that may be used by the entity or soul or body in its relations and dealings with others.
10. As to the particular field of activity of the entity in the present, then, we have given that its preparation should deal with communications and activities of both land and water. And, as is seen, the means, the modes, the manners of communications are gradually being changed [See 416-7 on 10/07/35]. Then, keep abreast of those things. For, as given, the particular training of the entity in each of its activities in the earth has been in those fields where he has acted in the capacity of being used for such conditions; and the training was for the varied communications between individuals for specific activity that dealt with the lives and the activities of individuals, of nations, and of many, many individuals. These, then, particularly fit or suit the entity for its dealings with those conditions that have been as failures on the part of others. And for this effort or this activity does the training in EVERY action make for SUITING of the self for those things.
11. Then, through these types of activity may the entity make himself a practical application of those things that the very nature of the training cause to arise in the experience as to such relations; and the entity has the abilities innately, materially, mentally, to cope with same, for the activities have brought such relationships to the self. Then, through such may there come to the experience the greater material gains, the greater soul activity, the greater abilities for making self and for others the good that may be able to be of greater strength to the activities in such fields.
12. So, as the body goes about such things, using those environs and relationships in the present, they build for themselves that which will bring into its relationship, into its activity, the OPPORTUNITIES for the greater expansion in every field in the present relationships.
13. Understandest thou these activities? For, it is the same as one having knowledge of a machine that is a recorder between, or for making communications; but without the knowledge of how to OPERATE same LITTLE can be accomplished in the material actions. Yet, if the activities are such as to have made for an awareness of the purposes and the manners in which it is to be used, then there may be a service performed by such a knowledge that is not only practical but reasonable - and a service that will bring for all about the body a GROWTH in spiritual, in mental, in material relationships.

15. (Q) Am I progressing according to the instructions in my Life Reading?
    (A) As indicated, progressing. For, as the self becomes more and more aware of POSSIBILITIES, more and more do OPPORTUNITIES come for application of that which is a part of self's expression, self development.
16. (Q) Give details as to how I may further make these applicable in my life now.
    (A) As indicated. Knowing that in certain activities and fields of endeavor there are the innate and manifested abilities for the training in certain given directions, as to relationships and the possibilities of the varied activities, make the application day by day. For, by the use of an activity does one become more and more aware of that possibility in such an activity. But this should ever be considered: There has been pointed the way in which self may become more and more aware of possibilities and opportunities. If one in error practices that error, the ERROR becomes more and more prominent in the activity of that soul; whether in thought, in faith or in practice. As one is pointed out, and through such information that has been and is being given, then does it offer a soul an opportunity for the expansion of self in a direction where GROWTH may be expected - and DOES come, see?
17. (Q) Is it well for me to continue in my present line of endeavor, or is there some other definite work I should consider? If so, what?
    (A) This has also been indicated. In the present line of work, there is an outlet and the growth for self in the direction to make for self the opportunities, the possibilities for the way being opened - as it were - by what is called by some "chance" or "circumstance." Then, it is well that the work in the present field be held at LEAST until it is seen where this leads in its relationships to the activities of the body mentally and physically.
18. (Q) Should I make any change of any kind?
    (A) Not in the immediate future. Let rather that termed "circumstance" or "chance" guide thee; yet such is a natural growth. For, if the preparation is made, the time and place to use that knowledge will come about. The field of the present activity offers the channel through which that as has been given may come, and as may be given from time to time as to the activity for the body, the mind, the soul of this entity.
19. (Q) What courses of study should I take up to improve my education?
    (A) Those that may be said to deal with the factors considered in the fields of activity suggested; such as radio engineering, radio transmission, as applied to the fields of activity in which the entity of body is already engaged - or those that would be leading to these fields of activity. And these we would have through those channels that offer same to be used in its present environs, without CHANGING its immediate action; that is, through the correspondence, or through the very CHANNEL in which the self is making of itself a channel or outlet for activity in its relationships to others, see?
20. (Q) What school and where would be best?
    (A) As indicated. There are schools, you see, for this particular activity or training. Some are being formed, and more or less active in the present relationships. These would be the better; as these might be designated by the relationships with whom the entity or body is now associated - see?
21. (Q) What about night school in Norfolk?
    (A) As we would find, rather than night school, preferably that which may be given by the courses from schools that make same through the enrollments where the activities continue in the regular everyday activity. See? Or, as we have given through these channels before, there is a combination between the American Tel and the Radio activity - or forum - and the Western Union activity, see? School comes from Baltimore associations, as we find. These, then, would be the better channels, for these would lead directly into those associations that would be the better. See?
22. (Q) Through whom could I approach this school?
    (A) Through the Western Union Telegraph Company!
23. (Q) What about the Radio Corporation of America?
    (A) It's a portion of the same thing.
24. (Q) Would you suggest I see Mr. Pannill?
    (A) This is a very good lead through this channel.
25. (Q) What individual subjects?
    (A) Subjects? This question is rather awry. Naturally, the subjects would be those that go WITH the better preparation of self for both home and abroad; or the languages as combined with these activities. See?
26. (Q) How can I learn to concentrate?
    (A) The body already has the faculties. The application - well, this may only be made by self. Of course, matter of rote becomes rote to those that have NOT the ability of EXPANDING and including that expanded to. For, concentration comes from APPLICATION. And, as given, this entity, this body, this soul development is such that it CAN concentrate and apply in these particular fields of activity in a way and manner that will be what is needed, what is desired.
27. (Q) Is it true that I will have a serious accident around the age of thirty-five, as predicted through palmistry?
    (A) There are builded in each entity's experience in the earth, and through those signifying influences in the activity of the body, those periods when the entity or soul passes through certain influences or experiences; yes. But that the self may apply self in LOOKING for such helps bring it about, as indicated. Then, forget it! And train self in this direction: "I will meet today those things necessary for today." For, "sufficient unto today is the evil thereof." Yet, if these things do arise, provided there has been the proper precaution and preparation, fine! For, as given, there will also come into the experience of the body those opportunities of not only handling the mediums of exchange between individuals or nations in large quantities, or in groups or corporations, but this very activity will bring to self much of this world's goods for handling in self's own activity. Of course, in the process of action, it may be that the body unfits self for the use of same; then it will only pass through as an experience.
28. (Q) What value is there in palmistry? To what extent may it be relied upon?
    (A) As we have given in regard to any and every omen, it is an indication - yes. As to whether or not it will come to pass depends upon what the body, the mind of such an one does ABOUT that it knows in relationship to itself. It may be depended upon, then, about twenty percent as being absolute - and about eighty percent "chance" or what a body does with its opportunities. The same as may be said about an individual that has prepared himself to be a medium through which there may be expressed in excellent executive. How much does the preparation have to do with the body being an excellent executive? About twenty percent, and the application is the rest! It is just so with all activities. For, the will of a soul, of a body, is supreme - even as to whether it makes of itself a channel for the spiritual influences in its experience or for the selfish desires of its own body and its aggrandizing of those influences.
    O if souls, bodies, everywhere, would gain that knowledge that the abilities to be sons of God or of the devil lie within self's own individual will! For, as has been given of old, "I am persuaded that neither principalities nor souls, individuals nor conditions, may separate me from the love of God save myself." To be that He would have thee be, in all that thou doest and hast done from day to day, is being then a channel - and being used by Him, rather than using the blessings He has given thee for thine undoing.
29. (Q) How should I proceed to improve myself mentally and spiritually?
    (A) By making application day by day of that thou knowest to do as in relationships to thy fellow man, day by day. For, it is ever as in the training for any activity in the material or commercial life; personal application of that thou knowest brings about those experiences in the lives of individuals that some call "luck" or "chance." For, when the will to do is ever present and not faltered by doubts and fears that may arise in the experience of all, then does it build, then does it attract that which builds and builds and IS the constructive force in the experience of all.
30. (Q) Just how can I affiliate myself with those fostering the Association work, that we may be of the greatest mutual help to ourselves and others?
    (A) Speak kindly, speak in convincing ways and manners of that which is thine own experience. For, each soul must apply - especially spiritual, but also mental - truths in its own experience.
    With all of those that are sincere in their endeavors to make known that which is the birthright of every soul through such information, that not only makes for the less and less of self but the more and more of that Christ Spirit that gives life, light and understanding to those that seek Him, then - in the closer relationships, in an aid here, in an aid there - these will bring about contentment in the experience, that makes peace and harmony in the souls of all.
