6/19/34 EC's letter:
My dear Mr. [
436]:
I was very glad to have yours of the 15th.
I am sure your visit was enjoyed as much by all of us as it
possibly could have been by you. It is, indeed, helpful to
know that we have something of sufficient interest to induce
our members to make a visit and, especially, in the interest
of someone else. [See 524-2.]
I have always enjoyed the opportunity of talking with you. I
know that you are a great deal better read on things as
pertain to the study of the occult and mysticism, for all
that I know has been practical experience with the study of
the Scripture. The latter, I realize, has been banned by
many students of truth or of occult science. Possibly I have
not read a tenth of the books that you have on the subject,
but I have not seen or read a book that the same subject has
not been and is not better treated in the Holy Book, and we
know from its presentation that is is an actual experience
and not anyone's theory.
I appreciate what you say about our talks and our
conversation. I know we agree on a great many things. We,
of course, from our reading at times have different names,
possibly, for the same subject, yet I belive that we are
meaning to express and manifest this same consciousness. Our
approach from the different angles gives us, of course, a
different vocabulary. Yet our synonyms are possibly just the
same.
Life is a practical thing, as well as a very wonderful study
from any and every angle one may approach it. As to the
modes or the ethics of conduct of different individuals, and
their approach in the modus operandi of attaining results in
their experience may be different. They arise, no doubt,
from their development and from their environment. What to
many of us at one period of our experience was quite out of
the question is countenanced and again we find we have
embraced that which we once thought was all wrong.
A writer in the New Testament has put in a little bit
language this thought: "When I was a child I thought as a
child, but when I became a man I put away childish things."
He means the same thing.
To many of us this might mean something entirely different
from our association of words, yet it means to me that
whether we are six years of age in the material world or 60,
until we have met, experienced and made experiences a part of
ourselves, we have not overcome those things necessary for
various periods or stages of our development.
What we need most, whether we be Parthenian, Greek or Jew,
bond or free, is to manifest the words of the Master and use
that "yard stick" as our motivating force and know as we do
unto our fellow man we do it unto our Maker, for the soul of
our fellow man is the image of our Maker and that we mete to
our fellow man is being meted to that image, for what we sow,
we shall reap. God is not mocked.
I am sorry if it will not be possible for you to get back to
the Congress. I believe we are going to have a very good
program. As to just how large a Congress it will be from our
"out-of-town" members, I don't know. There, no doubt, will
be a few, anyway. Sooner or later I am hoping that we will
be able to have a goodly representative of the membership at
those meetings, but it, too, I am sure, must be a growth. We
must have something to give them, for if we do not we have
failed in that that we have purposed to do.
Let us hear from you whenever you have the opportunity. May
the love of the Father through the Christ sustain thee at all
times.
With kindest personal regards, I am
Ever the same, Edgar Cayce
6/26/34 EC's letter: Intolerance, of course, is only another
name for selfishness. We are all inclined to feel that our
own importance is so much that the whole universe, almost, is
built around our own ego. It is truly that it is the "I Am"
or the soul in each individual or each body as we see it in
the earth that lives on, but if it is to the exaltation of
this body or mind that perishes, what good is it? It is only
when we glorify the soul that is the image of the Father that
our souls can grow. When we speak unkindly, or when we
fault-find with those who are doing their very best as they
know it, aren't we really finding fault with our God?
9/25/34 M.D.'s letter to Mrs. H. B. Harrell in re arranging
for DC lectures by EC: "Mr. [
436] has been down here with
some friends. He writes he will have to give up his work as
representative [of A.R.E.] as it is too strenuous. You see,
he is a very nervous person, and needs all the rest he can
get. You will understand when you see him. He is very nice
and is sincere and earnest in his seeking. I will appreciate
it if you will be particularly kind to him when you do meet
him. He is terribly sensitive regarding his affliction, but
he impresses me as being a very noble soul. He will
cooperate with you in the plans, I know... By the way, Mr.
[
436] knows Dr. F. Homer Curtiss and may help you contact him
if you do not know him. He knows many of the psychics there
and has studied along these lines for years - was once
employed at Unity Headquarters."

705-1, Par. 17-A.
11/19/34 "I had to drop out of the group because I couldn't
stand to sit in the room with 15 people for an hour. It was
very difficult for me. With
2-3 people I can get along but
not with a room full. You might think I lack courage, but I
think I am doing right owing to conditions and circumstances
...Mrs. Harrell is lovely. She is a real inspiration to the
group. Everyone likes her. I have also dropped the Hindu
meditation mtgs. There was a wonderful peace there, but he
talked a little too long for me... So I am going to make a
shrine of my room and through devotion try to build an
atmosphere there, and I will also, I guess, attract the
entities to me who will help me. I have found a physical
means to keep a lot of the undesirable ones away. I will try
it out soon and see if it works. It comes from good
authority and someone who is supposed to know. An attitude
of love to all beings is the best protection, but when we are
depressed at times any kind of physical aid is welcome."
3/10/36 "I must get to work with my math, and philosophy and
work consistently. Working in sprees doesn't do much good."
6/13/43 "I have been in Calif. about 3 months. I have
always wanted to live in Calif. and thought now would be a
good time to come while there is plenty of work. We both
like it here [I have been married about 7 yrs. to [...]. You
met her brother in D.C.]... My draft classification is 4-F.
Was turned down in the Army physical because of bronchial
trouble and nerves. My nerves are still bad and I've had
bronchial trouble almost all my life. Thought the climate
out here would help. My doctor is trying to get me an
outside job. Hope he comes through, as working out in the
sunshine and air would help my nerves too. Several psychics
in D.C. have said that coming out here was a good move and
that I would get alright and would find well paying,
congenial work. I think it will eventually turn out that
way."
1/05/45 Letter to EC, not knowing he had just passed on: "It
would be swell to be able to talk to you again... I now have
a job in a plastic plant...the industry is in its infancy and
I hope to stick with it...[extrusion operator]...there should
be greater opportunities after the war...
"We attend services at Christ Church Unity every Sunday. Dr.
Ernest Wilson is the leader. I don't go for all the Unity
teachings but I am all for Ernest Wilson and his teachings.
I knew him 16 yrs. ago in KC, and he has come a long way
since then...
"M. D. was telling me yrs. ago when she was in D.C. that the
priest who lives near you [Rev. Philip P. Brennan] said that
he didn't know much about your work but he liked you and your
character, and that is the test. I can remember your kindly
radiation and your soothing influence. Mrs. Little said
after she met you that in your presence she felt a soothing,
relaxing influence just as if she was in the presence of a
kindly father. Emerson stated that truth when he said that
what you are speaks louder than what you say.
"Hope we can get together again sometime for a good chat."
3/27/45 "I was very sorry to hear of Mr. Cayce's passing. I
felt that I had lost one of my best friends, although I have
talked to Mr. Cayce only a few hours in this life. Recently
I have felt that Mr. Cayce isn't gone, but is here. I have
had this feeling several times lately. I guess there is a
link between us that even bridges what is called death."
