1/01/32 Letter reporting on
5603-5 for son:
"Judge, nothing has come of the National suggestion for my
radio skits. Every one of the three stations has been most
enthusiastic about them. All the agents (radio advertising
agents) have liked them so well that they've said at times
they were going out themselves, to sell them. They have
shown them to advertisers but in vain. And yet the programs
are filled with mediocre sketches poorly written, and
inadequate. And mine are unheard!
"I don't expect to use the money I make for myself, but for
the mental deficient cousin I'm supporting, for a fund so
that she may always be assured of an income, no matter what
may happen to us. I'd be glad if some scheme is involved
through any reading, to send a share to Virginia Beach, to
you all. The whole thing is one of frustration to me,
nowadays. I worked all summer, hard...wrote 17 of the
sketches, and there they lie dormant. I want to be able
to place them! The sense of fulfillment, and the prestige...
and the fact that if these are placed, I'll get orders for
other work. And I am so well fitted for radio dramatic work.
"[
257] suggested that I ask for another reading, since the
last, suggesting National, didn't work out. [
257] said if
I consulted a specialist, and the cure wasn't efficacious,
I'd go back for more help. He thought of a few of the
questions I'm going to enclose, hoping sometime soon,
you'll find a place for me in your calender.
"I hate to bother you with all this but I am so at loss
as to what to do now. I tried going about to at least 18
agents, saw them, as coming as representative of National,
(as they said I might...) and every one liked them...yet
we've had no success with placing them with advertisers.
I suppose times are hard, yet people are using the radio,
and skits are being put on hourly.
"Do give my love to all your dear ones, and keep a good share
for yourself."
Fondly yours, [
