7/26/34 EC's letter: "It was indeed a privilege to have the
opportunity to be in your home again. While we didn't get
to talk with you very much, it's very wonderful to see what
a glorious work you are doing; and no matter what others may
say or how hard a time you may have at periods, I'm sure your
conscience tells you that you are giving of your life and
strength in a very wonderful and glorious work. For the hope
of our world and the future of our country depends upon the
young people of today, especially of those that have had and
do have problems in their own family associations and
connections, as well as those who have the most wonderful
associations in their home life. What you and your
co-workers are doing is a most wonderful work, and many will
say truly - in the days to come - 'Blessed are the efforts
of Mrs. [
459] in my behalf.' In fact, I believe your reading
told you that years ago, didn't it? that the day would come
when many would call you blessed. And you are certainly
carrying it out in your work, and I'm sure it brings joy
to your partner in life - though he was cut short in his
efforts, or we feel so at least from this side."
10/18/34 She thanked EC for
325-50 for her mother, saying:
"I read her a letter that made her feel very good, one that
you wrote to me on July 26th, just when I needed it to come
to me. In spite of all the hard work and the waiting for the
camp to open, we went into the red. Food stuffs took a big
jump and we had signed children so very cheap and many for
part scholarships, and there is no fund to take care of that
deficit. I am launching 'Alice in Wonderland' and having
a professional ticket promoter to carry out the finances."
