(Q) Should I continue the home-school as designated when my
children were young?
(A) That the children have grown away from and beyond
the home-school would indicate that this phase of the
experience is completed, - unless there may be made
associations or connections with others, which appears not to
be plausible. For, as we have indicated, it is hard for the
entity to work with others.
Thus, as we find, it had better be - the activity of the
entity - preferably in some field in which the entity may
make the HOME for the children in the present, rather than in
the school.
The school and camp may be an outlet as a part of the
entity's abilities, but as we find this should be rather
periodic, or educational work now; and the labors rather be
in that direction of assisting to MAKE contacts with
individuals for home furnishings, home decorations, home
preparations, - letting the teaching be rather in Sunday
School, or in definite periods for teaching certain groups of
children, see?
(Q) Should I continue the school next semester - February?
(A) As we find, the sooner there can be made those
associations or connections to consider, now, the preparing
of self for assisting in home decorations, the better it will
be.
(Q) How can my brother [
257], help me in this?
(A) This depends upon whether or not it is through these
channels that the help is to come. First, there should be a
period of STUDY BY THE ENTITY, in preparation FOR the
undertaking to assist those in buying, or in the decorations
for homes.
(Q) Should we live in ..., L.I. until [
2444] finishes
school?
(A) This depends upon the work that is to be done. As we
find, it would be better that there be - as soon as practical
- the preparations for the new associations and work.
(Q) What about the camp in ..., L.I.?
(A) This is a confusing question, with what has just been
answered!
We are through for the present.

11/21/38 and previous rdgs. in re school and
camp for children.
1/23/41 Since before Xmas I've been trying to get the rdg. as
to whether I should open school and camp for 2nd semester in
Feb. The semester opens Mon. and I have some children who
want to come. Brother [
257] is against the school and camp.
He wants me to retire. If I had any funds I would... Until
I find something else I don't want to give this up. Last yr.
I had an associate but this yr. I shall run my camp with
hired help... What about fire laws relative to bldg. code?
Should we take the chance, considering the inspector is
friendly and says it is alright? Should I have boarding as
well as day pupils? Is it advisable to finish up my lease as
of Sept. 1st, instead of moving now and be held for lease?
Should my children [
1856] and [
2444] assist in school and
camp? If so, how?
REPORTS
2/06/41 Ltr. from brother [
257]'s sec'ty, Mrs. [
189]:
"[
459]'s rdg. was remarkable. Mr. [
257] has had a terrific
battle to get her to give up the camp and I hope he has
succeeded. We don't know yet. She has been a very heavy
economic and moral responsibility to Mr. [
257] all these yrs.
and now that the children are entering their college yrs. you
know the responsibility becomes greater and [
459] is a most
difficult person to handle. However, that too will adjust
itself in time."
2/12/41 Mrs. [
189]'s ltr.: "What a time we have had with
[
459]. However, she has given up the school and perhaps we
can get her started in a new direction. It's a big job but
we cannot afford to let her slip, so will keep after it."
2/15/41 Mrs. [
459]'s ltr.: "Well, here I am at the above
address in NYC. It was not easy to cast aside my school and
camp, but instead of following my urge, as I know now the
'why' in the scheme of things, I am arranging for a course in
interior decoration. It seems rather strange to live in two
rooms after having lived in fourteen room houses all of my
life, and cooking from a pantry now... The rdg. said 'home
school' and true, I didn't make any money but if I've helped
about two thousand children to get a little glimpse of better
living and if I have given that many parents a breathing span
while I've had their children, I suppose we may call it a
day. Certainly the experiences 'softened' my children, and
the care administered to the little ones at ... School I hope
will reap a harvest in their span of life. If [
1856] is to
be a rabbi and [
2444] a teacher, they have learned to believe
in the one maxim, 'If you give you receive,' not in money,
because we made not a nickel, but we measure profits and
gains by what we aim to get out of life... The rdg. was
simply marvelous. I have a client for you in this bldg. She
will write for a rdg... Daughter [
2444]'s rdg. was simply
wonderful. Only time tells the story. 'Home School' was
eleven yrs. old." Love, [
459]
4/10/41 "Your work has guided me since before my marriage,
when I was going with a Methodist minister, so I am willing
to drift along according to the scheme of things. [
1856] is
delighted that I am in N.Y.C. and [
2444] loves it, even
though she is up at 6:30 A.M. to commute to L.I. to finish up
her high school career...
"Now it's a question as to what rabbi we should associate
with, as I am going to teach Sunday School. That's how I met
[
4159], right in the kindergarten class. You told me in a
rdg. to stick to small children. Now in my Life Rdg. I can
see the 'why'. That rdg. was a masterpiece."
