11/14/49 Capt. [
462]'s report on 462-4, while leading the
discussion of SFG lesson at A.R.E. Group #1 meeting:
In connection with personality and its influence, you might
be interested to hear of an experience I had some years ago.
I had made an appointment with Edgar Cayce for a reading to
be given on December 5, 1933. I told him I would be on
board the U.S. Dredge ..., Merrill and Stevens Shipyard,
Jacksonville, Fla., or somewhere on the St. John's River,
not far from Jacksonville, between 3 and 4 o'clock on that
afternoon. However, I had in the meantime forgotten all
about the appointment and on the afternoon in question I was
ashore, 20 miles from there, in the District Engineer's
office in Jacksonville.
Edgar Cayce in Virginia Beach went to sleep and the reading
started:
"We have the body associations with the Dredge, but we
don't find them together!"
The reading continued, nevertheless, FROM THE INFLUENCES OF
THE BODY LEFT IN THE ROOM!
No one had ever lived in that room but me. I took that
Dredge out when it was new; I had been in that room from the
time it came from the shipyard, and after operating here 4
years went to Jacksonville.
The reading was given on what was the matter with my back
and what to do for it. Enough of me was left in that room
that Edgar Cayce picked it up and gave the reading. He said
in part.
The segments in the 8th, 9th and 10th dorsal show a tendency
for settling close together, as do the activities of the
muscles and the tendons about the sacral and coccyx region.
These subluxations are not as lesions, as yet, but are
rather of the nature that produces - through these areas
at times - a dull aching across the hips, through the right
side - low down in the caecum area; at other times a heavi-
ness and pain through the upper portion of the body, under
the shoulder blades, and a tendency for the mental body to
be easily aggravated - or nothing fits just exactly right;
making for a lesion in the hypogastric and pneumogastric
area, or 3rd and 4th cervical.
"What areas, then, need adjustment? In the 8th, 9th and 10th
dorsal. Relaxations in the lumbar or sacral and coccyx
area."
When the reading arrived in the mail a few days later, I
took it to Jacksonville - picked up a phone book looking
for an osteopath, as I didn't know one, and went down the
line to the last one on the list - a Dr. Avis M. Withers in
the Medical Arts Building. I went right down to her office
and said, "I'd like you to give me an examination, but before
you do so, I have a letter here I would like for you to read.
I want you to read this with an open mind, no prejudice -
just pick it up and read it. Don't allow yourself to be
influenced by what you read. Then check my body and see how
close this comes to what you find according to your science
of osteopathy."
So she read it and said, "Well, I've never seen anything like
this before." I then lay on the table and she went down my
spine and checked each vertebrae. Finally she said, "It
is 100% - I find his description is exactly the condition
existent." In other words, she found the tautness particu-
larly in the 8th, 9th, 10th dorsal; ["Several weeks prior
to the rdg. fire broke out aboard my dredge. While running
down a ladder on the way to the fire, I fell hard on the
deck and bruised my spine. I was in pain and discomfort
from it until the osteopathic corrections were made. I
had not given Edgar Cayce the details of my injury when I
requested the reading."] it was very pronounced, so that
there was no guesswork. Dr. Withers was flabbergasted when
she realized that Edgar Cayce had given that diagnosis from
Virginia Beach with me in Jacksonville (and 20 miles away
from where I was supposed to be keeping the appointment for
him to examine my body). She was actually knocked out - had
never heard of anything like that.
I took a series of treatments from Dr. Withers and my
physical condition was put in good shape, just as Edgar
Cayce said it would be.
From that experience I am impressed with the fact that we
do leave a part of ourselves in places we occupy, say over
a period of months, or even days, as the case may be. I
also have a better understanding of what is meant by we being
our brother's keeper, and that no man lives to himself, and
that as a man thinketh so is he. It has shown me how much we
are a part of everything when we come to a final analysis.
There was nothing in that room outwardly indicative of me.
My clothes were in a steel locker on the side. There was
nothing of me there except the bed I used to sleep on, and
- as a matter of fact - the bed had been changed that day
- yet the subconscious picked it up and could tell where the
trouble was in the body that occupied that room, even though
he had been gone from it since early morning. I usually got
up at 5:30 in the morning and by 6:00 o'clock I was out of
the ship - Edgar Cayce gave the reading at 3:30 that
afternoon.
To tell you the truth, although it happened 16 years ago, I
have never gotten over this particularly unique experience
of mine.
