12/25/42 Letter:
..., Va.
My Dear Mr. Cayce.
"Your very lovely [Christmas] message received, thanks very
much, It is always an inspiration to me to receive a letter
from you, and this is from the heart too. You want to know
my reaction to your book, There is a River. First off, I
thank God that I am counted among the Friends, of the man
whose life and work is outlined in that book, your friendship
to me has always been a Benediction, and while I felt that
I knew you reasonably well, the reading of There Is A River,
has given me an insight in and understanding of the character
of the man Edgar Cayce, that I never had before. To me it
is a wonderful book, portraying as it does, the humility,
sincerity, and christian integrity throughout his whole life.
"I think I can understand now more fully, that steadfastness
of purpose which caused him to hold to the narrow path
of truth and not allow his God given power to become
commercialized, or to bind it to any narrow orbit, but to
keep it as broad as the world, attuned to the Universal
consciousness of the Christ Spirit. To spend and be spent in
daily service to his fellow man, following in the footsteps
of Him who said inasmuch as ye do it unto one of the least of
these, you have done it unto me. This is my sincere
reaction, I think it has a grand future, the world needs it
now perhaps as never before. So praying that the New Year on
which we are about to enter, will be a banner year for the
Book, for the Association, and for the World, may we under
the guidance of our Heavenly Father, see universal Peace
proclaimed ere its close, may I say Thank God for Edgar Cayce
and his work."
Sincerely your Friend, [

1/24/48 Wife [
404]'s report at A.R.E. group meeting:
CASTOR OIL PACKS: My husband had pains in his appendix.
He had a reading; and the reading told him not to have his
appendix out, because it would affect his disposition, and
to use castor oil packs about once a month.
First, warm the oil, and ring out a piece of flannel or wool
cloth in it; and put the cloth right over his appendix across
the right side of his stomach. And over the cloth, put some
paper like a newspaper to keep the oil from seeping through
to the bed covers. Use several thicknesses of paper. Also,
put newspapers under you. Then, you put an electric heating
pad over the newspaper to keep the oil pack warm. Leave it
on one hour. Do that three times in succession on succeeding
days at the same time of the day.
My husband followed this treatment about once a month for
a year, because occasionally he would feel soreness in his
right side. I don't think he has had a pain in his appendix
for a couple of years. He used the castor oil packs two or
three times during the second and third years. The reading
was given about four years ago.
Also, he would take at least two tablespoonsful of Olive
Oil a day, especially while he was using the oil packs, or
immediately after the treatment. The reading said that if
he followed these directions he would not need an operation.
He ate the olive oil on eggs, potatoes, and other food.
3/30/59 Friend Mrs. [
2454] reported that Capt. [
462] had
a heart attack around 6:30 P.M.
3/31/59 Early a.m. he was taken to Leigh Memorial Hospital.
Tests show very serious coronary thrombosis but possibly it
has been found in time to dissipate it.
4/02/59 Mrs. [
2454] said he was still on critical list.
5/59 We heard that he was at home but warned to take it easy.
8/09/65 He reported that: "Son [
1450] is in the hospital for
kidney stone surgery. If he had used the Castor Oil Packs
as I told him to, he wouldn't have had to undergo the
operation."
10/10/65 His wife, [
404], died suddenly.
11/10/65 He had surgery for removal of large growth on
prostate - not malignant - coming on fine.
12/06/65 "I am still under the doctor's care but I hope to be
back to my old tempo soon."
6/66 GD's note: He left for a long visit to his relatives
in Newfoundland, by plane.
8/09/66 "I am back home now, after another visit to my son,
[
2157], in Ill. I'm feeling fine."
11/08/67 He visited A.R.E., attended the Prayer Group Meeting,
looked better than we'd seen him look for years; he said he
was fine, that he was very active, had been attending study
group meetings, lecturing, etc., but had decided against
another trip to Newfoundland this fall.
11/16/67 He phoned to say he was going to the hospital for
a check-up, that he hadn't been feeling well for the last
few days and couldn't figure out the trouble. He felt so
strange, not like he had ever felt before.
