(Q) One-half grain tonight and another half grain in the
morning?
(A) Half grain tonight and another half grain in the
morning, then followed with the saleratus - soda, saleratus,
or salts - salts preferable, for this produces the relaxing
of the hypogastric plexus, and the calomel, with its
characteristic activity in that of the acids, produces the
liver reaction, see? or the throat, to bring about a BETTER
condition, may be sprayed with this, see? in an atomizer.
This will only be local, and is only as an antiseptic for
the system. To forty (40) minims tincture in solution of
tolu, add:
Benzoin............................5 minims,
Oil of Turp........................1 minim,
Eucalyptol.........................1 minim,
Pure grain alcohol, diluted in
1/2 ounce of water.............10 minims.
(Q) Is the burn on the leg healing properly?
(A) Healing properly. Keep that as has been applied, and
in the way and manner, for the system must be kept cleansed
that the rebuilding may come properly. Do not give the body
too much candy or sweets!
(Q) Should the osteopathic treatments be given if it takes
the calomel?
(A) We may relax these in an osteopathic manner - anyone
may relax these portions of the system by simply massaging
along this portion of the spine.
(Q) How often should this be done?
(A) Until the condition is relieved of pains in the head.
Definite intervals, see?
(Q) Will the body be able to use the leg and straighten it
as perfectly normal when the burn has healed?
(A) Certainly. Only it takes a little time for it to heal,
for the burn in the deep portion is lateral with the muscular
portion in the leg, see? Hence the tautness as is felt
there, and the inability to straighten at present without
producing a strain - which is detrimental, for it breaks
tissue.
That is all.
We are through for the present.
BACKGROUND

REPORTS
1/01/27 Father indicated he had not had a doctor with [
487]:
"The rdgs. have warned us in re the general physical health,
and the necessity of correct diet, stimulation, and
elimination, more than it has for the local tr. of the burn -
and we have found these conditions have been the real ones
that we have had to deal with. I went to Dr. Robt. W.
Woodhouse, M.D., and told him everything we had done, what
had been advised through the rdgs., and he told me it was
absolutely correct and nothing could be any better outlined
or applied. But he can't get about yet at all, and after the
place is healed I'm sure it will be some time before he will
have the full use of that leg - because of holding it so long
in one position, though, of course, it has never been bound
in any position."
1/11/27 Father's letter: "[
487] is able to hop around a bit
now on crutches. He, too, has had a right bad cold, which
has made it unpleasant for him, as well as all the rest of
us."
1/13/27 "His leg is badly drawn, but it is continuing to
straighten out more and more, and I feel sure when it is
properly healed he will get along alright."
1/25/27 "I think he is gradually on the improve every day,
as of course the more he uses his leg the less he gives to
it as he stirs about, but I can appreciate his feeling, for
he cannot stand to have it not bandaged up."
2/07/27 "My wife and [
487] are with me in Fla. I really think
the boy needed something of this kind before starting back
to school, for he certainly was badly run down, but he has
gotten the use of his leg now - complains of it, though, once
in a while."
3/24/27 "[
487] has gotten able to return to school, and while
the place on his leg is still tender, it doesn't give him any
trouble any more."
9/08/27 See
487-11 for tonsillitis, adenoiditis, crick in
neck, etc.
1/06/34 See
487-15, Par. 10-A, 11-A, advising sweet oil -
camphorated oil massage to remove scar tissue from the leg.
