She died
4/01/45 at seven o'clock on Sunday, Easter morning,
before seeing this letter written
3/30/45 by her son, [
341],
overseas:
"It is important for you to realize how much fun it has been
being your son. So many times I have seen you faced with
problems, conditions that I have known to crumple up so many
people, and you have risen above them - and (the important
thing) carried others with you. These things [
487] and I
will not forget. Too few people has there been entrusted the
guidance of so many lives - not in the outward way to be seen
by men, but in the background where the going was tough.
These things I know, and will not forget. Never have I known
of such unselfish love for two human beings as you have
always shown toward [
487] and me. This, too, I will never
forget. It would be easy to go on and on.
"It makes me proud to think of you. It makes me deeply happy
to know how ready you are to pass through that other door.
There is so much beauty in your living, my dear, that I
cannot be sad at the possibility of you joining Dad. You
held up his right hand sometimes both hands here, so it does
not surprise me that he may need you now.
"We have come, [
538], to an understanding of karma in a way
that we have for a long time been explaining to others, and
I find that your life represents so much that is fine and
beautiful that I cannot allow my selfish desires to mar this
period of waiting and wondering.
"My prayers are that you will not suffer, my dear. I know
that you must realize how much love has been, is, and always
will be, yours." [
