10/04/39 Mother's letter to EC: "[
543] is in University of
Va. Hospital, University, Va., a nervous wreck, and so am I.
Would you pray with me that God will let [
543] die. She
wants to die, and it is killing me to see her in this
condition. If you feel that God answers your prayers, please
pray that she may be taken.
"She loves you dearly and still has faith in you, so be kind
and loving enough to her to pray for her earthly end.
"Kind remembrance to you and yours."
10/05/39 EC replied expressing concern and ended his letter:
"Please give [
543] our love. We will ask that His will will
be done for her at this time."
3/04/40 Miss [
543]'s letter to EC: "I rec'd your note in
Jan. while at the hospital in Charlottesville. I've been up
there several times and taken the insulin shocks which have
helped me considerably."
7/06/40 She wrote of going on a trip with her companion,
Mrs. [...] a graduate nurse, to visit sister [...] in N.J.
11/14/40 "Mother wishes me to again take Dr. Harry L. James'
medicine [Western Medical Corp., Chicago]. I told her I'd be
glad to, if she so desired, but wanted a rdg. first. I've
been back from the Univ. of Va. Hospital 2 wks. last Monday.
I stayed up there three weeks and took 3 or 4 shots of
insulin. But the head doctor of that dept. stated that I
didn't need any more insulin shots. Mother got the
information about Dr. James' medicine from a minister of a
Methodist church in Richmond, Va. He had two members who had
gotten well of epilepsy after taking Dr. James' medicine and
were able to return to church."
11/16/40 She submitted questions.
12/03/40 "I feel very well and would take longer walks than
I do, but my companion has high blood pressure and I try to
keep her from walking fast or climbing slopes or a hill."
12/05/40 See
543-29.
