Mrs. [

The Dunes Club,
Narragansett, R.I.
My dear Mrs. [
557]:
Yours of the 30th I have just received, enclosing the
remittance for the literature and lessons; also the report of
your condition thus far. I'm certainly sorry to know that
you are not feeling so good just at this time, and I'm afraid
a great deal of this is from - we might say - neglect on your
part. The medicines suggested for you in the reading would
certainly not be harmful if given in the manner directed, in
cooperation with the rest of the treatments suggested. I'm
sure that all of these could have been given under Dr.
Soden's direction. However, I would not advise that you
take any of these separately; for the treatment was given as
a whole, and one portion is to work with another to bring
about the desired results. So, I would not advise that you
take the medicines unless you are having the osteopathic and
violet ray treatments in the manner indicated at the same
time.
There is evidently a real cause for this disturbance in the
digestive tract, and of course the pain in the right side
would indicate the lack of proper activity of the gall duct
or liver. I believe all of this would be removed if you
could have the osteopathic adjustments. How far are you from
Newport? There are quite a number of very good osteopaths
there. It may be out of the question, of course, for you to
go across the water for a treatment, and the change might be
a very good thing for you, I don't know. Of course, that has
to depend upon circumstances, but I would advise that - if it
is at all possible - you have this matter looked into right
away. I believe just a few treatments would make you more
comfortable, and it would be very easy then for you to take
yourself - under the supervision of your attendant or
masseuse - the Atomidine and Ash with the violet ray
treatment; or if the gas continues it would be well for you
to have the colonic irrigations as suggested to relieve this
pressure in the colon which would overcome the tendency for
fermentation or indigestion and constipation.
It is quite interesting to note what your friend in
Philadelphia says. The Atomidine taken in the dosage
prescribed in the reading is very small, as you will see from
the directions on the bottle itself; so it could not possibly
be severe. I know many people who have taken as much as
eighteen to twenty drops at a dose three or four times a day.
It is not harmful, but of course I understand anything that
can do you good can do you harm if taken wrongly. However,
I think your friend is quite right; that you shouldn't take
one portion of the treatment without having it all done
cooperatively. I believe that you could have gotten this
done through Dr. Soden. As for the Ash, several doctors are
using it in accordance with the reading suggestions, and it
is certainly proving quite helpful in each case. On the
other hand there are individuals who are following their
readings without the cooperation of a physician with equally
as good results; that is, taking this Ash according to the
reading suggestions alone.
I do not wonder that you are discouraged at your symptoms.
If it is at all possible, I would advise that you get to
Newport and see Dr. C. Edward Farnum or Dr. C. Dudley Hulett.
I do not know either of these personally but they are listed
as members of the American Osteopathic Association. Neither
are they familiar with our work, but you may refer them to
the following leading men in their profession who are
familiar with our work and who cooperate with us:
Dr. A. G. Hildreth, Still-Hildreth Sanatorium, Macon, Mo.
Dr. Percy Woodall, 1st Nat'l Bank Bldg., Birmingham, Ala.
Dr. Wm. A. Gravett, 325 W. 2nd St., Dayton, Ohio.
Dr. Frank Dobbins, 551 Fifth Ave., New York City;
and many others.
I would certainly not put this off, for - from the reports we
have had through the years, and at our recent Third Annual
Congress - not only from the physicians but from the
individuals themselves - we have every right to believe that
you will get the results promised by following out the
suggestions made. Therefore, as you say, with such reports
from day to day, we must believe that the information we
receive is from a source that is good - which is God. Just
how or why it should come in such a way, I may not know; but
I do know that so many hundreds have received help and aid,
have prevented themselves from having a great deal of
suffering, enormous doctors' bills and other things.
But I do hope this will find you feeling much better. If you
are to be in Narragansett any length of time, I would
certainly arrange to get those treatments; also I think your
reading suggested a diet that would be most helpful in
conjunction with the treatments.
Thank you very much for your letter. I do hope and trust
that you are feeling so much better. With kindest personal
regards and best wishes from each and every one here, I am
Sincerely, EC

Dear Mr. Cayce:-
Your letter which I received in August was a great help, and
I thank you for writing. However I did not get the
treatments started until I returned here and the boys got off
to school which was less than three weeks ago owing to
circumstances. Everything seemed against it, at
Narragansett, however although I couldn't get to Newport for
treatment I found an excellent masseuse - Then the violet ray
machine wouldn't work, and although I got an electrician to
look at it, and even took it to the hospital. They couldn't
manage to make it work. As soon as I got home I took it in
town to the place I brought it, and they fixed it.
The treatment has not had time to help me much yet, and as
I have had so much persistent pain at night especially,
interupting my sleep and rest and exhausting me. I want to
ask you if you can give me another physical reading to check
up on the first one, that is to find out my condition now!
My main problem is constipation, and sort of contraction and
retention or spasmodic condition which necessitates my taking
medicine for that, such as Belladonna and besides mineral
oil, cascara, magnesia, or something of the kind - otherwise,
regardless of the colonics, as they only help in part, and
and sometimes not much, leaving me very uncomfortable.
The trouble seems to be in the duodenum or gall tracks and,
liver especially. In fact, my back between my shoulders
and further down is so sore I can hardly lean on it and when
I jump around am concious of my right side being sore.
I am obligated to take doses of alkaline powder - sometimes a
couple of times at night to correct the acidity and help the
pain.
Will you let me know if massage is as beneficial as
Osteopathic treatments, also when you speak of taking
colonics, do you mean enemas could take their place at times
as I could not take colonics daily, and I have not
evacuations without some assistance.
The directions say the Atomidine should not be taken with
other medicines, and yet it seems necessary for me at present
to take laxative - Also for my digestion acidity, and
sometimes something to make me sleep.
I am taking the ash 4 times and used the machine after as
directed. The first time it seemed to blow me up with gas,
but not since.
I enclosed this check for the physical reading ck., and will
be interested to receive any account of your work. Let me
know if you can understand all this, and what time you can
give the reading. Hoping you are all well.
Yours sincerely, [
557]
Do you expect to come north at all this winter?
P.S. I have been to Dr. Soden. He is so far away from here
that I hope to find someone nearer. There is a wonderfully,
good masseuse out here who has helped me in the past as to
nerves and circulation.
I need more strength to get through the things I have to do
and obliged to rest so much.

My dear Mr. Cayce:-
Miss Davis gave me your address and I just wanted to let you
know that I can easily wait until you return to Virginia
Beach when you will have more time.
I had my gall bladder drained last Monday at Dr. Speare's
where I have been before. She said the ducts going to the
liver seemed very much inflamed and full of some sort of
secretion. Anyhow, the drainage was a great relief and that
night I slept nine hours with no pain. However, when I start
doing things again, although I am most careful, and leading
rather a busy life, although I try to rest between times, the
trouble gradually seems to accumulate and come back again.
Last night, I was in such intestinal pain that I had to take
castor oil.
This is just an example of how things go. I did have a busy
week, but have gotten in a better frame of mind which does
help some.
I wish I could go down to Washington and see you, you must
be having a very interesting time. Are you coming to
New York at all? Let me know at your convenience about the
reading and thank Miss Davis for her note.
Very sincerely, [
