This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of April, 1938, in accordance with request made by the sister - Miss [993], Active Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

TEXT

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before.
2. Now as we find, there are still those effects from the lack of the proper coordination in the eliminating systems as related to the activity of the glandular forces; and to the nervous system. Hence we find the disturbances when at times still there are the over-pressures upon the sympathetic nervous system; thus causing the high nervous tension, the inclination for a little temperature, upsetting the digestive forces, and the general "coming to pieces" as it were of the whole coordination between the cerebrospinal and sympathetic systems.
3. At such periods we find that the manipulations osteopathically, if they are carefully and gently yet positively given, as related to the activity of the glandular forces - and especially to those portions of the system through the adrenals and the coordinating forces of these with the thyroid and thymus and the activities through the digestive forces - should make for the quieting of the body.
4. Use the Radio-Active Appliance only a short period at a time, or twenty to thirty minutes, and this two or three times a day. It will be for this body more effective in this manner. For, because of the activities of the nervous system, there is the tendency to become overanxious and overactive if there is anything binding or confining the body. Use the Appliance in periods, to be sure, as it has always been indicated for the use of same. Use for two or three days and leave off two or three days; or use for five days and leave off three to five days. But circulate the body with the attachments; that is, the same connections - and have the attachments very close but not binding. Keep the plates very clean; that is, always polish the plates thoroughly before connecting. Have the Appliance in the solution or the ice for five to ten minutes, at least, before being connected to the body.
5. Of course, there are the inclinations through the mental reactions for the body to remain AWAY from others; yet the body should do just the opposite! If there can be the more pleasant but gentle reactions from others, it will make for better conditions. Hence it would be well for the body to have company, if it is of the cheerful character and not always anxious about the conditions of the body!

7. (Q) What doctor would be best to handle this?
   (A) A lady would, of course, be preferable; if this is possible.
8. (Q) Would Dr. Crews [Gena Lowndes Crews, D.O.] be advisable to give the osteopathic treatments?
   (A) Would be very well. Would be advisable.
9. (Q) Are the massages for the breast being given correctly, to increase the unison of activity? Should they be given with an upward or downward stroke?
   (A) These are very well. They should be given with a downward stroke.
10. (Q) Should both breasts be massaged?
    (A) Both should be massaged. The massage should be more on the GLANDS, to be sure, FROM the breasts; than the breasts themselves; that is, about them and under the arm and downward, see?
11. (Q) Is the sister applying the massage just about right?
    (A) Just about right.
12. (Q) Why is there inflammation about the breast?
    (A) As just indicated, the incoordination of the glandular forces of the system; and this, as the changes are coming about in the system, [Menopause?] is affecting the mammary glands, see?
13. (Q) May an affirmation be given to be used in administering the massage?
    (A) The affirmation would be more effective if used with the Radio-Active Appliance when IT is used. For this is nearer in accord with the activities of the coordination between the physical, mental and spiritual forces of the body itself. For when these are mechanically done, or through individuals, these make for then a different character of current that naturally coordinates or works through the body.
    Hence at such periods when the Radio-Active Appliance is used, let the affirmation be as this - but put in the words of the individuals themselves:
    LET THERE BE PERFORMED IN MY BODY THAT SERVICE, THAT ACTIVITY O FATHER, THOU SEEST NECESSARY TO MAKE MY BODY WHOLE; THAT I MAY BE THE GREATER SERVICE FOR THEE IN THIS EXPERIENCE.
    The words, of course, may be altered, but let them be with that purpose, that intent.
14. (Q) What causes me to be so fatigued after talking, and what can be done for same?
    (A) This is a reaction to the sensory forces of the body, and should be much bettered as there are the adjustments osteopathically for the general circulation and for the relieving of the nerve pressure.
15. (Q) What causes weakness in back?
    (A) The same as has just been indicated.
16. (Q) Would an electric vibrator be helpful?
    (A) This as we find would be rather severe.
    If there would be taken electricity itself, we find it would be better; in a very low form, as in the violet ray - but not with the bulb, rather with the hand or rod applicator, see? Not too high nor for too long. Half a minute once a day should be sufficient in the beginning. These treatments would also be more effective if alternated about the body; that is: The first day hold the rod in the right hand, the next day lay the applicator on a piece of glass and set the left foot on it and then turn on the electricity. The next day hold it in the left hand, the next day use it with the right foot. Keep alternating the applications about the body in this manner.
17. (Q) Why am I not able to walk and exercise as I did several weeks ago?
    (A) The general incoordination between the sympathetic and cerebrospinal nervous systems. This is more of the reaction in the mental than in the physical. It would be best to walk and exercise some, in the OPEN as much as possible.
18. (Q) Have I overcome the superacidity?
    (A) Not altogether. Hence the better eliminations will be established with the character of manipulations as indicated.
19. (Q) Why is there such an uncomfortable feeling in throat or larynx, and what should be done for it?
    (A) As has been indicated, the activity between the sympathetic and the cerebrospinal systems. And as through the throat and through this area the connections are to the sympathetic and the sensory forces, these produce the reaction of that nature. Hence we find that the electrical forces would be most beneficial in this direction.
20. (Q) Would it be advisable to take a good tonic for regaining strength more quickly? If so, please suggest one.
    (A) Not in the present. A little bit later, in a week or ten days (time enough to get them at least), we would take one CODIRON tablet a day. Codiron (one word) [Later known as Adiron - See 560-6 Reports], by Lawrence Laboratories, Chicago. This is a stimulation of this character: Cod Liver Oil with Vitamins A, B, C, D and E, but in such measures that they will work well with the system. [See EC's letter 9/08/38 under 633-11 Reports indicating this was the first reference to Codiron, next day given in 487-22, EC wrote the Company, etc. Miss [560] ordered the product and the Co. wrote asking how she knew of it, for they had not yet advertised it. See mention of incident in 12/28/38 conversation of EC with Lydia J. Schrader Gray used in 10/15/51 issue of the Searchlight, Edgar Cayce the Man.]
21. (Q) What foods would be best, and should sugar and starches be now added to my diet?
    (A) A little of each may be added. Keep rather a regular diet now. Just keep away from superacids, or those combinations of starches, etc., that produce excess acids.
22. (Q) Is it advisable to continue the Ammonia and Bicarbonate of Soda for what seems to be indigestion, or fullness in throat and chest?
    (A) As we find, the Alcaroid is better than the Ammonia and Bicarbonate of Soda. For the Ammonia tends to make for a DEPRESSING to an ALREADY OVERTAXED system - nervous system!
    Take about a quarter teaspoonful of the Alcaroid about ten to fifteen minutes after two meals - whichever are the heaviest, whether morning, noon or evening. About twice a day some days it would be taken, and other days it would only be necessary once; other days it may not be necessary at all! Be governed rather by the feeling of the body a few minutes - or fifteen to twenty minutes - after eating. If there is the inclination for fullness, bloating or heaviness in the chest, or the cardiac portion of the stomach (which is the lower end of the chest, of course), then take it! If such does not occur, then leave it off!
23. (Q) Why was I not able to demonstrate over my condition, or ward off the reaction? Was it lack of faith? Please explain.
    (A) Rather the lack of the ability to coordinate the various influences within the physical, the mental and the spiritual forces of the body. It would require rather a lengthy dissertation to give the whole explanation, but: Do not attempt to judge spiritual things through judgment of material conditions, nor material conditions through judgment of spiritual things; but know that they must ALL cooperate, coordinate one with another.
    Not lack of faith, not lack of ability - but the flesh is weak, the spirit is willing - and the mental combination of these has not kept pace with each. That may sound more confusing, but study this and ye will see.
