7/27/34 Father [
643]'s letter:
[
567] IS BETTER. He is working here and seems to grasp
things far better than would have been possible in June. He
seldom shows any anger at suggestions, follows instructions,
laughs and has gone without a turn, so he says from Wednesday
morning, enroute to Dr Kapple until this, Saturday morning
as far as I can learn. He keeps a record now and as one of
men was with him who told me it was much lighter in power
than the former one witnessed, [
567] marked it up as one
half a turn.
Under Dr. Kapple [
567]'s skin is cleaning up, a healthy tinge
all over, red ears and face, showing blood flow. It
certainly looks like you had uncovered the hidden cause of
his trouble.
It is also evident that the gland action is being stimulated
in a healthy way. Wearys [L. A. Weary & wife Conway who
later moved to VB.] not yet to Virginia. Told me yesterday
in about two weeks. He is not ill, nor Mrs. Weary. He wants
to meet you. He knows many of our great men, presidents of
the huge companies and is with Wm Randolph Hearst, American
Weekly. Make a good friend of him, as you will I know. He
would be a wonderful booster for what he believes in.
[
567] stayed home today. I wanted him to work in the yard
and Mrs [
652] said; "leave that boy alone." He needs the
exercise as he has none very much here. Cigarettes and
coffee are hurting him, as they are his mother who OK's
poisons and holds back on the best exercise of all i.e.
working in the yard. What in hell should one do?
7/31/34 EC's letter:
I am happy, though, to know that [
567] is better. I am glad
to know that Dr. Kapple is working along the lines that were
outlined and that it is possibly bringing the desired
results. I am sure from what you say of how the skin is
clearing up, the more healthy flow of blood, makes it look
as if we were on the right track. For this I am very, very
thankful.
I will be anxious to meet and know the Wearys. Be sure and
have them look us up should they get down to Virginia. I
will do my best to be just a normal and as practical as I
know how, and if this brings the results, fine.
With best wishes to all, and looking forward to hearing from
you as to further developments, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce

7/31/34 [
643]'s to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Perhaps I was somewhat too optimistic in writing you as
when I arrived home [
567] had had a turn in the afternoon
Saturday. This did not disturb me but he had another rather
bad one Sunday at 9 A.M.
Monday, so far as I know he missed but this morning at 8,
he had one and fell or at least went down. Again at 11:30
he had another.
Yesterday at lunch; I was with him, he called for tea and
for breaded pork cutlet. I was unable to dissuade him. In
talking with Mr. Parke this morning he says that he did not
eat his supper of vegetables but went out afterwards, drank
coffee, chocolate malted milk and after coming home, as they
were having some beer, and home made at that, he again joined
in. This must be the cause for today. Cannot locate what
caused the Saturday and Sunday turns.
Please take my word for it; [
567]'s original illness was
brought on by an exclusive diet of chocolate in its various
forms. His first conscious movement after a turn is for a
cigarette. This is hardly your problem; I only ask that you
bear this in mind when writing to any of us. It SHOULD be
featured. He is taking in more poison each day than he
eliminates or almost does. It is plain hell to have a
heartache and a backache and a strained pocket book with no
apparent effort on the part of the patient. He wants to
become well but without any particular fight on his part.
Shortly will mail check for [
625]'s reading.
Sincerely, [
643]
8/06/34 EC wrote Dr. Kapple suggesting that he insist that
[
567] follow more closely the diet outlined for him.
8/08/43 Mr. [
643] requested a Physical Reading.
8/11/34 Dr. Kapple's letter:
There are a lot of things entering into this case that make
it a hard one to handle. I have given plenty study and
thought to the care of this special ailment I have yet to see
the first case that will respond to any sort of treatment
while under a nervous tension from the outside or rather
other sources. Mr. [
643] came with [
567] this P.M. and made
the statement while in the treating room that [
567] should
have chiropractic treatment for the atlas, he says what comes
in his mind not thinking what he says. Its the same when he
writes you regarding [
567]'s diet. You may rest assured I
shall give my best in the care of this case.
Yours very truly

8/16/34 Father [
643]'s letter: "[
567] is better mentally,
more cheerful, has forgotten the old threat of suicide and
sullen disposition and anger, etc., so that itself is a great
stride forward."
8/28/34 "[
567] reaches Reilly's Sun Air Farm, Oak Ridge,
N.J., on Sept. 4th."
8/28/34 EC's ltr. to Dr. Kapple:
Many thanks for yours of the 11th, and your report on young
[
567]. I know what a problem such cases are, and unless you
can have the wholehearted cooperation of not only the family
but the individual it makes it much more of a problem. I
certainly do hope that the very best comes out of it all.
What has become of our friend, Mrs. [
515], who was so
interested in having the reports from everyone and wanting
to know which one would sympathize with her the most? Has
she continued to take treatments?
From the number of requests we have had from time to time
coming from Chicago, I have been considering that possibly
the early part of October I would come there for perhaps a
week or ten day stay, to see if we might not be of a service
to some of those who might seek if we might seek information
through these channels, to increase our membership and to
interest some in the work being presented through our
Association. I would like to ask your opinion in this
direction, and we would like to know if we might have your
cooperation in handling some of the cases for us. Would you
care to suggest to others that they have readings through
these channels, or might we use your name in speaking to
others about it? Be very frank. Of course, I wouldn't want
to cause you any embarrassment, and wouldn't want to be
embarrassed by referring others to you unless you wish it.
So, please write us very definitely what you think of it.
Thanking you again for your letter, and with kind personal
regards, I am
Sincerely,
EC:GD
9/04/34 Dr. W. Lee Kapple's reply:
I have just received yours of Aug. 28 and glad you really
understand the problems of some of our patients in so far as
as treatment is concerned, Mr. [
567] has arranged to go east
for further treatment. Mrs. [
515] has not called of late,
but we look for her again soon, her condition will be
unchanged after making the rounds, and she will say nothing
ever does me any good. I can't imagine any embarrassment on
my part, should you use my name in connection with your work
and I have on different occasions, suggested to my own
patients that they try this system, yes I will be glad if
you desire to handle any case you care to send me, provided
of course, it is in my field of endeavor, perhaps after you
have had a talk with me you might change your mind about the
whole program, as there are a few things in the make up of
this particular treatment that do not fit with the medical
world, and a lot of our neighborhood physicians. I love to
explore into things psychical, it interests me greatly, and
I try to use it in my own small way to make cures in certain
cases, suggestion has helped me many times in this work.
Won't you let me hear from you again soon. I think your plan
a great one, perhaps we may interest quite a number in your
work.
9/06/34 Mother [
652] obtained Physical Reading, via request
of Mr. [
643].
9/10/34 EC wrote about planned trip, etc.
9/21/34 Dr. Kapple's letter:
In answer to yours of the 10th, I must say that I will be
very glad indeed for an opportunity to talk with you
personally, when you visit our city this fall. I am deeply
interested in your work for the simple reason that you have
made two diagnosis [
515-1 and
567-1] that were exact, or I
might say analogous, to my own spinal finding in these
patients. The case of Mr. [
567] certainly showed a marked
example of spinal disorder and I am pleased you found this
treatment was really beneficial to him. I understand the
situation in their going away, under the circumstances it was
the very best for the boy and I sincerely hope he gets the
proper treatment at that place. He has promised to write to
me often, but as yet I have not heard from him nor the
family. Now again thanking you for your letter and hoping
to see you real soon, I am
Yours very truly,

9/21/34 Dr. Reilly's ltr to [
643]:
Mr. [
643],
Chicago, Ill.
Dear Mr. [
643]:
Excuse my delay in not communicating with you before, but I
wanted to wait until I found some definite improvement in
[
567].
Last week he went almost six days without a turn. He started
to take a turn several times during the past few days but was
able to snap himself out of them each time. He has cut his
cigarett down 50% or around 10 a day. His skin and eyes have
become clearer and he is gaining in enthusiasm and optimism.
All in all I think he has done very well in a short period of
time. On Mr. Cayce's request I am making but a small charge
of $25 per month for treatments. This is less than half the
usual fee as I give [
567] 3 to 5 treatments per week. But he
is such a fine fellow that I will do everything in my power
to fulfill the prophecy of Edgar Cayce's reading. With
patience, perseverance and faith we can return your son to
you whole in body, mind and spirit.
Sincerely yours,
H. J. Reilly [D.C., Ph.T.]

9/24/34 Gray Salter's ltr.: "[
567] seems to be getting
better. His spells are getting farther apart and not nearly
so long or severe as they were. He says he feels better and
eliminations are better. When he feels one of these spells
coming on we try to exercise or walk it off and so far have
had very good luck."
