6/08/35 Father's [
643]'s ltr.: [Confidential and not for your
files please.]
Dear Mr. Cayce;
You asked me to write as to [
567]'s status as soon as he
returned home. I can only guess at it. He was here from
Friday night to Saturday night when he took the train to
Pasadena.
He was enthusiastic, happy to reach us, cordial to the people
whom he met and expanded lengthily on the subject of his
quarrel with the Pullman porter.
He is apparently far more nervous than when I took him to the
"clinic". His turns are down to two per week and he does not
know really when he has one. Had none here that I know of.
Asked for eggs. I called to his mind, or tried to that Dr.
Howard Pitts, M.D. had told him after diagnosis that eggs
were very disturbing to him, that they were poison to some
people and in many similar cases would bring on turns within
a few hours.
Mrs. Lucey, the dietitician had said they were good for him.
"Who is she. Where did she get her knowledge and how could
she say they were good for him without careful tests?" etc.
Then came the old rage. (I thought he was over these.)
Saturday morning he did not eat eggs. (There was none in the
ice box.) But, in his anger he hiked to town in the heat.
Mrs. L. says that Sanka, de-caffeined coffee is OK. Kellog's
Postum is NOT OK. Coffee is harmful to almost all people.
Good for some whom I have known.
Sanka is coffee. Let them say they have the caffein out of
it, perhaps they have. Next they will have the wet out of
water.
Two things have happened; he is a diet crank. Cannot have
buttermilk before he looks as a sheet of paper. Nor milk.
Nor whole wheat bread, etc. These people found a diet book
and go by it.
I saw the meal he had when I was there. It looked just an
ordinary cheap getup. Hash as I recall.
2. He is enthusiastic about Dr. K. He knows a little and
has stretched that a long way. One of these little men,
bright enough but with the professional front. I did not
disturb his enthusiasm, nor did I give him any reason for
the flare up.
Dr. K. said he might need some readings. I agreed to using
my name. Asked for a check for $20.00 made out to the
Society; as they are not ashamed of robbery, I ought to have
the privilege of helping out such an institution as yours.
He told me 4 weeks ago [
567] would walk out a well man. Kept
telling [
567] the same thing. Now, as he likes [
567] so
well, will give him a special rate of 50.00 per week. For
6 weeks.
The "doctors", of the staff are without doubt hospital
orderlies, or bed pan couriers with a course in chiropractic.
There is a gland specialist in L.A. Dr. Curtis [
7/03/35 Ltr.
said Clifford A. Wright, M.D., Orthopedic Hospital, Los
Angeles, Calif.], cripple, real MD. Hired certain days by
Los Angeles County for brain cases, by the Orthopedic
Hospital, a beautiful place, for this successful treatment of
glands that affect the cases mentally.
Mrs. [
652] saw him. (He was out when I called.) She writes;
"Dr. Wright asked me if [
567] was very fond of CHOCOLATE and
sweets".
Here is my original diagnosis for cause as it was so apparent
it could not be overlooked if one gave any thought whatever
to the case.
Mrs. [
652] wanted to come over. With [
567] twisting every
thing I say into a "call down", I stay out of the picture
from now on as it is insane to have any disturbing cause
around. And I am one for him.
[
567] will write about eggs. I feel this way; they may be
the best thing for him but we do not KNOW it without careful
tests for long enough to satisfy ourselves. It is easier to
take Dr. Pitts, and others' word for it. I think you might
confine your answer to the effect that they, like everything
else of general use, MAY very well be poison to some systems.
Onions are in the food of the healthy people of the world and
yet we know people who are made sick by eating one small
onion. Or fruit. It is not safe to say that anyone can wear
a straw hat. There are people in the world I believe who
would be poisoned by doing so.
[
567] as talkative, tries to tell two things at once, does
not recall things that happened here 2 months ago, does not
recall names of friends here and his brain has weakened.
Does not touch the piano. Did not ask for a game of Bridge
or Cribbage. These things have been my barometer and when
the interest in them fades, I do worry more.
I state now that your original diagnosis is still as letter
perfect as the day you made it BUT we have had to depend upon
too low mentalities and training to bring about the things
you want done. K said his stomach was way down, out of
place. It is strange that [
567] spent 4 days in the big
hospital at L.A., full of bismuth, daily studied in the X Ray
machine and this leading doctor said nothing about the
stomach being out of place. He was formerly the Asst. of
Dr. Jos. B. Miller, the greatest diagnostician of Chicago and
to whom every doctor in the Middle West goes.
I will request that when [
567] writes for a reading you
merely advise him that he is progressing. He has had one
lately and when I think it time I will ask for it and enclose
a check with the request. This is because there is no need
of burdening you with extra effort that can do no good as
when he progresses we shall be the first to recognize it.
I have not been using the treatment you prescribed for me as
I cannot afford the light treatments after the atomic ash.
When the family get well then my turn will come.
This is rambling and I should block out the letter first
but that takes time and there is so much to do. I would not
recommend the outfit to you for offering to your people.
The charlatan still works the public.
7/03/35 Father [
643]'s letter:
[
567] was almost violent when he came back. This is Dr.
Clifford A. Wright, Orthopaedic Hospital, L.A. He is a
cripple in a wheel chair. He has given the metabolic tests,
feeding calcium, and SUGAR, in which he is terribly deficient
according to tests. [
567] has had no turn since Sunday.
Better color, easier mind, more vitality.
This K - kept him away from sugar, calcium and gland
treatment. Dr Wright also gives serum for glands. He is a
reputable man and seems to be making progress.
The thought has hit me that you might do him a lot of good.
Being an M.D. his is prejudiced, etc. In time he will be
available.
[
567], being better, an going back to ..., shortly as my
work is there. Tonight I can say that [
567] is better.
Sincerely, [
643]
8/19/35 Mr. [
567]'s ltr.: "I came out here to Los Angeles
for the summer and Mother [
652] told me about Dr. C. Wright,
a famous doctor here in Calif. He is a gland specialist and
has had many of the Petit Mal cases...after making tests he
found I had a low sugar content in my body. He said this
gave him something definite to work on, and added that he had
never had a case of my type without low sugar content... I
am better now. Mother and Dad see a marked improvement in my
turns. I am being treated for glands. I take a thyroid
gland pill 3 times a day. I also take Calcium Phosphate
before each meal. I see the Dr. 3 times a week, and each
time he given a shot of serum in the arm... Dr. Wright is an
invalid in a chair. Later on I want to have a rdg. for him
and see if you can't arrange a tr. for him that will put him
on his feet."
10/13/35 Mother [
652]'s letter: "I know it is a hard thing
to ask a man to trust one when we already owe you so much,
but if you think you can trust us, do give [
567] a ck. rdg!
His turns are more severe, and I want to ask if the gland tr.
is helping him, also how much improved he is, if at all - and
when his turns will cease... [We are so discouraged...etc.]
I have gotten in a nervous condition where I can't control
myself and almost faint at each of his turns. Do help us.
He wants to be near you, and has such faith that you will
cure him. If there only was a clinic near you in which you
were interested. I feel I must ask your help again."
