Dear Hugh Lynn:
"I am in receipt of your letter of November 8th. Enclosed
you will find a copy of the laboratory analysis we had run
on the water specimen taken from the area that I believe lies
directly over the aquifer connected with the well your father
mentioned in several readings. The water sample was
definitely confirmed as being well water. The lab technician
who ran the analysis stated that this water is indigenous in
mountain areas and is therefore quite unusual to be found
near the coastal plane. If you will note in the report there
are several peculiarities existing in this sample. First,
the unusually high content of Magnesium, 68 parts per
million. Mountain water averages about 26 to a high of 40
ppm. Next, Sodium and Potassium, 40.5 ppm. Very high. This
ties in with your Father's statement that the Island overlies
mountains abundant in mineral ore especially Magnesium. The
appearance of Chloride at 220 ppm shows sea water
contamination which is expected due to percolation. Its
color and turbidity, 100+ and 3.5 respectively give the
appearance analogous to tea. The pH of 8.4 depicts
alkalinity, non-corrosive. Hydrogen Sulfide proved negative
because the sample was not field fixed. H2S is very
volatile. I did confirm its presence by its distinct odor.
"This find, I hope will lead to a drill site sometime in the
near future. As for land movement, there is a definite
acceleration in the emergence of the whole Bahamian Platform.
We took several readings in the last year in selected areas
spaced with enough distance so as to give us a broad picture.
The emergence is not uniform and the mass is behaving very
plastically for the present. The Bimini area in particular
seems to be moving vertically and more rapid than any of the
other areas. A very obvious display of this rapid movement
was the disappearance of East Swell Inlet in a period of
about six months. High water is about two feet below what
is now a body of water evaporating what use to comprise the
inlet. The bay between North and South Bimini will very
shortly be dry land. My estimation, if the acceleration
continues, is that within approximately two years or possibly
three the Platform will become one land mass above sea level.
Not too far off. This is when excavation will probably
escalate. The formations we located are now at a depth of
14.7 feet as opposed to last January's reading of 22.7 feet.
The other locations show approximately 0.69 as opposed to
the Bimini area. Your Father was right on!
"Hoping to hear from you soon, I remain"
Very truly yours, (signed) Frank O. Spampinato
