EC: Yes, we have the body here, [607].
Now, as we find, there are conditions that disturb the better physical functioning of the body. These are, as we find, of specific nature, and with the correction of the condition that is specific we will find many of the nervous disorders and the resultant effects from same disappearing. These, as we find, are the effects (that is, the disorders and specific nature) of functional conditions as related to the pelvic organs and their functioning.
These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [607] we are speaking of, ... Street, ..., New York:
In times back there first occurred, with the functioning of the organs of the pelvis, a catarrhal nature produced from congestion in the areas of the womb, with the congestion in the ovarian secretions; and with the use of certain character of antiseptics, or severe antiseptics, brought the tendency of tissue to stricture - or to thicken in such a manner as to produce irritation; so that at the periods of elimination through the activity of the menses there has been brought such a strain as to produce headaches, nausea, and pains even through the assimilating and digestive area, as well as sympathetic conditions in the ovaries and the organs of the pelvis proper, in such measures as to produce great distress. This irritation naturally reflecting itself in the blood supply produces in other portions of the body concurrent or coordinant disorders; as in the throat, the head at times - where tissue that should be cleansed by an overflow of the lymph and emunctory circulation becomes irritated to where there is a dryness and a tendency for severe irritation. Thus still stimulating a circulation of a nature that makes for even a quicker pulsation, and heaviness in the lower limbs; an aching throughout the body, with hot and cold sensations over portions of the body. The centers from which the organs of pelvis and the coordinating centers with the brain reflexes act with the general system in their functioning show irritation. Hence we will find at times bearing down pains across the small of the back, through the hips, and the lower portion of the kidney area - ALL become involved in the condition. Thus, when the menstrual period begins, the high nervous state arises, with the sympathetic conditions in other portions of the body.
Then, in meeting the condition, as we would find would be the better for this body, [607], we are speaking of, we would:
First begin with the use of the violet ray, using the vaginal anode, giving a treatment for at least two and a half to three minutes about three times a week; and periods just before the menstrual period EACH DAY for two or three days.
After this has been given over one period, we would begin with a gentle massage that would be given by a thorough osteopathic treatment, but - in such treatments or massage osteopathically - give sufficient manipulation in the lumbar and sacral and lower dorsal area as to make for the loosening of the tautness that has come from these general disturbances in the body. As we find in the present, there should first be a period of treatments for two to three weeks, then a rest period of a month, and then another period of manipulations for six to eight treatments - given two or three each week. Then rest again for another whole month; then two or three treatments osteopathically.
But, the greater portion of the time, keep up the violet ray treatment.
To be sure, after the vaginal anode treatment, it would be helpful to use the bulb of the violet ray over the lumbar and sacral area, and the back of the neck and upper portion of the head and shoulders.
As to the diet, be mindful that the foods are wholesome, but not too much sweets nor condiments; rather have an inclination toward the alkalin reacting diet.
Do these and, as we find, we would bring for this body, [607], near normal conditions.

(Q) Why does she have severe attacks of indigestion after eating eggs in any form?
(A) The tendency for the nervous reaction to those elements especially that are found more prevalent in eggs; as phosphorous and the natures that make for the gluten. This trouble will not be experienced if only the yolk of the egg is prepared - coddled; if the treatments as indicated are applied.
(Q) Any further advice for the body's better welfare?
(A) First, as indicated, from at least now to the next menstrual period use the violet ray vaginal anode treatment from two to three minutes, two to three times a week; of course, not giving the treatment during the menstrual period, but after the flow has stopped or before it has begun.
After the menstrual period, as a douche, use Glyco-Thymoline - a tablespoonful in a quart of lukewarm water. This will be the better antiseptic, with no harmful effects to the tissue.
Then, when the treatments are begun again, begin also with the general manipulation, with reference to the lumbar, sacral and lower dorsal area; of course, coordinating the cervical and upper dorsal with same, in a general treatment.
For the mammary glands and around the breast, to make them more firm and not so large - and yet make for a different activity to the whole body, we would massage a compound into the glands prepared in this manner:
To 2 ounces of Cocoa Butter (dissolved), add:
Stir this well together. Once or twice a week massage the glands around the arms and around the lower portion of the breast, upper portion, and massaging thoroughly around the edge - will make these more firm, relieve this strain, the burning sensations that have arisen at times after and during the menstrual periods.

(7/01/34 GD's note: Enclosed was a letter with directions for violet ray treatments, which you can give at home - or have given at home; or by a nurse or physician if you prefer.
Also enclosed was a letter to Dr. Dobbins regarding osteopathic treatments. He also would have the violet ray, probably; but you can get a hand machine (which is the kind needed) at most any drug or electrical supply house. Be sure to obtain the two anodes mentioned; that is, the vaginal and the bulb. Also see separate letter [that was enclosed] to druggist regarding the rub; but this also you should be able to prepare at home, as it is very simple.
If there is anything further you would like to ask, don't hesitate to do so. It is important that you do everything JUST as described in reading.
