8/13/34 Dr. LeRoy Coombs' letter to EC: "It is with a
very keen sense of interest that I have accepted the case of
Mrs. [
611], referred to me by Dr. Dobbins. I am handling it
differently from any other case I have treated; making no
examination or diagnosis, but following your directions as
nearly as possible with the instructions you have given. I
am very desirous to help Mrs. [
611] in every way I can and
realizing the powers of God beyond all human understanding,
and the various ways He uses us as channels, I would like to
ask some questions so that I may be more sure I am giving
the treatments the best way possible. How much diathermy in
terms of milliamperage should I give the body and for what
length of time per treatment from now on? I am now treating
the whole abdominal area from the middle dorsal to the 5th
lumbar. Please tell me specifically the size plates to use
and just where to place them. I prefer to follow your
directions entirely. Am I giving the treatments correctly
now? If not, what changes should I make? How long should
it be before Mrs. [
611] will definitely notice an improvement
from my treatments? How long before she will entirely
recover, continuing the number of treatments per week she is
now taking? Is there any specific spinal adjustments which
should be given her? If so, what vertebrae are involved?
(Here again, I wish to follow your directions.) Is there
anything else I can do to help her, other than what I am
doing?..."
8/15/34 Mrs. [
611]'s letter: "About a week after your visit
to N.Y. I started a series of treatments as suggested in your
reading of my case. To date I have had seven, and there are
many questions which have arisen in the mind of my doctor
which he would like to have made clearer, concerning my
condition. I enclose herein a letter from Dr. Coombs which
is self-explanatory. Owing to the unusual circumstances
surrounding the treatment of my case, the doctor's position
is a rather difficult one, and he is relying solely upon your
diagnosis, unless you advise him to the contrary.
"In addition to his questions, there are a few more, as
follows:
1. What was the ORIGINAL cause of the condition with which
I have been suffering?
2. Is the body responding to the treatments given?
3. Is the body suffering any reaction from the treatments
and if so, how is it affecting me?
4. Are the treatments affecting my heart, causing it to
palpitate and flutter at times?
5. What effect are the treatments having upon the kidneys?"
8/16/34 Mr. [
257]'s letter: "I have just left Mr. [
613]
and he had quite a lot to say about the treatment of his
sister [in-law], Mrs. [
611]. He said if she gets the relief
promised there is much he can and will do (for you) but that
is a big job and he - she - her doctor - are all cooperating.
She had a bad day yesterday, became very discouraged because
of the reaction. At my suggestion she and the doctor each
are sending you questions."
