9/07/34 EC's letter to Mrs. [
611]: "I was very glad to have
yours of the 30th, and to know that the Check reading was
satisfactory. I'm sure you will find Dr. Coombs quite an
efficient and worthwhile man. I gather this from the letter
I've had from him, and I hope you will not become easily
discouraged. You know it is going to require a little time,
but if you don't get along just as well as you should, be
sure and let us know; for, as I have told you before, I know
of no cases that have not gotten the results promised when
the suggestions made have been followed.
"Some months ago we gave a reading for an elderly man [Mr.
[
576]] in Dayton, Ohio, whom the doctors said was about
'through,' and he felt so himself. Well, for several weeks
he had a time trying to get a doctor to follow the reading,
or to give him the method of treatment prescribed. We
finally wrote to the doctor in New York who is pushing that
method of treatment, but inasmuch as our patient did not have
money enough to come to New York for treatment, he dropped
the case and would not bother to recommend anyone in Dayton.
However, through some friends of ours in Dayton he finally
located a man there who gave that mode of treatment. Also it
was necessary for him to secure the services of a physician
of another school. But he made the arrangements, after so
long a time, and a few days ago he wrote me that he was ready
to go back to work - he feels so very well and says he is
getting along fine. The doctors marvel at the change that
has come about. And I'm sure such a change can come to you.
I know you have had everything to discourage you, and you
feel like at times there isn't any use - but God is still in
His heavens and His promises are the only things that are
worthwhile; and the beauty of it is, He takes us where we
are!
"So, you hold on tight; be very persistent and consistent,
and the first thing you know, you will see a whole lot of
change, and you'll be just coming along fine..."
9/08/34 Dr. Coombs' letter to EC: "Your letter arrived just
as Mr. [...] was leaving. He came to inform me that his wife
[
611] would not continue treatment; at least at present. The
family doctor, hearing that she had been to you and taking
treatment here, frightened and badly startled her. He
informed her that scar tissue was found on the spinal cord
and a narrowing in one area through diseased or destroyed
nerve tissue; that she would never get any better (though
probably not any worse); and that my treatment might at some
time give some added injury. Of course, he made a very grave
error in telling her, in not telling her husband originally,
and in frightening her regarding my treatment. Mr. [...]
said the doctor had killed what spirit she had; and both Mr.
and Mrs. [
611] seemed very kind in their attitude toward
ourselves. It is too bad, as both Mr. [...] and I felt she
had shown a very slight improvement during the month's
treatment. We all realized it would be very slow..."
10/21/34 Mr. [
257]'s letter: "...We have quite a number who
want to meet you, among them Mrs. [
611] who wants to begin
again the treatments..."
