HLC: You will answer the physical questions regarding this body, as I ask them:
EC: Yes - we have the body here. Ready for questions.
(Q) Will the injuries received during my football days, in my right shoulder, right knee, and left ankle, be the means of my rejection from the Selective Service Induction, for which I am about to be drafted in February?
(A) If used as in conjunction with the present labors and activities [at a gov. base], there will be deferment - or reclassification.
(Q) If I should go in the Army as a result of the "draft," -
(A) (Interrupting) Well, that's precluding a different thing!
(Q) What is recommended for the injuries?
(A) Heat, - as the sweat baths, but these would be with massage; or the Swedish Massage treatments, see? These would be taken about once a week until four or five are taken, then left off about three to four weeks, and then taken again.
(Q) What is the best local treatment for the sick headaches I now suffer with?
(A) These come, here, as we find, from lack of proper assimilation. Use a good intestinal antiseptic. Take three to five drops of Glyco-Thymoline in water for two or three days - each day, see, for several days.
Then at each meal take three to six drops of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin in half a glass of water.
Twice a week, at a meal, add with the Pepsin a teaspoonful of Milk of Bismuth - stirred in the water with the Pepsin, you see. This may necessitate (the Bismuth) the using of a laxative. When this is used, use a mineral salts, - such as the ENO SALTS or Sal Hepatica. Change from one to the other, you see. But when taking it, continue it each day for a week to ten days. Then the next time take a course of the other, you see; and keep these in this order - we will keep the eliminations and remove the causes of the headaches. [GD's note: 10/52 Dr. D. H. Fogel, studying this rdg., stated that this was NOT a migraine headache.]
(Q) What local treatment is best for the tightness experienced in my throat and upper bronchii?
(A) The whole general treatment is best. For it's the whole body that needs relaxing, see? [See 622-5, Par. R3.]

12/30/57 GD's note: Report by his sister, Mrs. [845]:
"X-rays show squamous (scaly) type cancer - scale on outer covering of the cells - in right bronchial tube.
"They're giving him daily x-ray treatments - if next picture shows shrinkage, will go in with knife. However, Dr. Hotchkiss told his wife - x-ray treatments and prayer, with emphasis on the prayer.
"Six months ago routine x-ray did not show it. Began having trouble with throat irritation, couldn't sleep for coughing, etc., and doctors said 'You have a touch of laryngitis,' but nothing helped. Finally went to get x-ray and Dr. Hotchkiss [William S. Hotchkiss, M.D.] made the diagnosis."
He died 5/07/58.
