This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 6th day of January, 1933, in accordance with request made by herself, Mrs. [623], mother of Active Member Miss [951].

TEXT

1. EC: Yes, we have the body and those conditions that disturb the body-physical, Mrs. [623].
2. Now, while the body at present is somewhat easier than it has been, yet the causes - and the immediate cause of the distresses - have not been wholly removed.
3. The conditions, as we find, are basically those of poor eliminations, caused by an unbalancing in the forces of the body to function nominally respecting certain organs; the specific and immediate conditions arising from cold, congestion, producing an accentuation of these same conditions, thus affecting the organs already under distress as well as the functioning of other organs in the system.
4. While the temperature is somewhat above the normal, that which causes this is from the excess of poisons in the system and the non-activity of the liver in its proper manner as related to the eliminations from the system.
5. Hence the blood becomes, then, over-charged with the distresses of an unbalanced metabolism, and the organs of the hepatic becoming more involved than they should causes the rise of temperature.
6. The cold or congestion, then, causes the over-activity of the phlegm in throat and head, but this is rather the acute than the basic condition that affects the body.
7. The antrum and bronchi also show effects of this congestion.
8. As to the basic conditions, then, or that that produces the disorders:

We find there are specific conditions existent in the cerebro-spinal nervous system which cause the inactivity of the functioning through the glands of digestion, through same slowing up the pulsation or the pulse, thus making it easy for congestion and for the body to be subject to indigestion; combined with torpidity in liver, heaviness in feet, swelling in lower limbs at times.
10. Then, in meeting the conditions at present, the acute as well as the general or constitutional conditions must be considered.
11. First we would begin with a very warm application to the cerebro-spinal system, especially in the area from the waist to the nape of neck, with the ultra-violet and Infra Red, or with the compound known as or called Baume Bengue [Bengay].
12. Also use, for a counter-irritation over throat, antrum and head, the combination of equal parts of Turpentine, Spirits of Camphor and Mutton Tallow. Massage this into throat and face, as indicated.
13. We would also take internally three doses with the following proportion of ingredients being in each dose, and letting one day elapse between each dose:

    Leptandrin................1/2 grain,
Podophyllum...............1/4 grain,
Sanguinaria...............1/2 grain,
Powdered Rhubarb..........1/4 grain,
Senna.....................1/4 grain,
Dover's Powder............1/4 grain.

    The latter ingredient necessitates being administered either through a physician or through the sympathetic apothecary. Put the above proportions in each capsule.
14. Drink plenty of water when each capsule has been administered; quantities of water.
15. It would be well also that the feet be massaged thoroughly with the same preparation as given to be applied to throat, chest and head.
16. When this has completed its action (that is, the activity of the capsules and the counter-irritations), we would then have the general massage over the whole system, either in the osteopathic or neuropathic manner.
17. We would also take a tonic for the general toning of the system, that the organs which have been disturbed by those pressures existent in the upper dorsal area may be stimulated to a normal functioning. Prepare it in this manner, and put the ingredients together AS they are named: To 1 gallon of distilled or rain water, add:

    Wild Cherry Bark............2 ounces,
Sarsaparilla Root...........1 ounce,
Calisaya Bark.............1/2 ounce,
Yellow Dock Root..........1/2 ounce,
Prickly Ash Bark..........1/2 ounce,
Elder Flower................2 ounces.

    Reduce this by slow boiling to half the quantity, using the enamel ware with a glass or enamel top while reducing (not tin or white metal). Strain while still warm.
18. Cut 1 dram Balsam of Tolu in 2 ounces grain alcohol, adding to same Tincture of Capsici 3 minims and Oil of Sassafras 3 minims.
19. Then mix the two solutions together.
20. The dose would be half a teaspoonful after meals and at bedtime, or 4 times each day.
21. The diet should be that that is well balanced and wholesome. This would be an outline, though it may be changed from time to time as may be seen by the character of condition:
22. Mornings - citrus fruit or stewed fruits (as figs, apples, peaches or the like), but do not serve the stewed fruits with the citrus fruit juices; neither serve the citrus fruits with a dry cereal. When cereals are taken there may be added buckwheat cakes, rice cakes or coddled egg, and a cereal drink. It would be well for these to be altered or changed.
23. Noons - the whole green vegetables, as carrots, cabbage (or slaw), lettuce, celery, spinach and the like. These would be preferably taken with the oil dressings. At this meal there may be also at times taken the meat juices, but no meats.
24. Evenings - principally vegetables that are WELL cooked; and there may be taken meats occasionally, those of mutton, fowl (or especially wild fowl).
25. These treatments and suggestions followed consistently, persistently, we will find, will eliminate the causes and the present distressing conditions.

27. (Q) How often should the local applications be used?
    (A) Until there is the reduction of the temperature, and the cold and congestion has been eliminated; especially until the bowels have moved sufficiently to eradicate much of the poison. The manipulations, after these have been begun, would be about twice each week. It would not require, as we find, more than fourteen to sixteen treatments and adjustments.
28. (Q) If lights are used, how long at a time should they be applied?
    (A) If these are used, the ultra-violet for three to three and a half minutes; the Infra Red from five to ten minutes.
29. (Q) How often?
    (A) It may be necessary every day, until there is counter-irritation set up. As we find, if both the other counter-irritations are used as given these would be better even than the lights - until after the eliminations have been set up.
30. We are through for the present.

1. 1/10/33 Letter: "I don't know where to begin but I feel something is wrong.
   "You may have guessed I'm in bed (but not from cold to my knowledge).
   "I do have slight trouble with my head.
   "Did you make a mistake in sending the carbon copy also and do you want me to send it to you?
   "I have tried so hard for 3 weeks or longer to keep on my feet with cystitis; was so glad you hurried things for I was so in hopes of immediate relief.
   "On Wed. nite (the day I had received and answered your telegram [setting appointment date]) at eight o'clock I took urethritis, at two-thirty I got to sleep. Thurs. noon I took worse and we had the doctor (an osteopath); he stopped my pain by pressing on a nerve center slightly below the waist.
   "I was easier Fri. and [951] thought I had a slight temperature.
   "The doctor was back Fri. nite.
   "Sun. I got up on my feet only to get worse and doctor was back Mon. (last) nite.
   "In the afternoons I felt better; sometimes no one could feel better; but in the mornings I'm not so good.
   "True, this may all be cold, but I think it's coming from the colon, as I have known for over a year I have colitis.
   "There is an obstruction (it is also sore) twelve inches up in the colon.
   "For 12 years my stomach has soured, formed gas, bloated me, choked me, made me sick at my stomach, etc. I have for 7 years cut down on sugars and starches and am some better.
   "Miami Valley Clinic says it is gall bladder and wanted $50 for complete examination. I paid them $10 and left. I'm sure it's in the colon.
   "They did not get that far with the examination.
   "A year ago I had pictures made of the intestinal tract and took a lot of colonic irrigations to get over a case of cystitis. I did not get over the mucus colitis. (Osteopathic clinic) "Want to tell you I have had bladder trouble so often since I was 17 years old.
   "We have gotten the medicines [in 623-1] and I have gotten started on some of it. The druggist said the capsules were a shotgun dose and asked who was going to take it. My husband told him his wife, would it kill her? He said no, but it is a dose. I took the first capsule Monday at one o'clock P.M., and it is 8:30 Tues. morning and I don't know I've taken anything. I suppose he followed the prescription?
   "Before I close I'm going to add I started with an osteopath 7 years ago because of such an awful backache and trouble with my hip. I had from 1 to 3 treatments a week for 4 years and I don't believe I have gone over 3 months without treatments in the remaining 3 years.
   "The trouble above the waistline (or rib lesion) developed about 3 or 3 and 1/2 years ago.
   "I hope you can give me some light on all this.
   "I do want to say my head seems subject to cold, especially at nite; I take cold in bed and keep my head (not my face) covered.
   "I also have a cystic condition of the uterus.
   "Thank you for your patience with me.
   "You can arrange for the next reading but we want to write you all the symptoms and you can make, out your own questions."
2. 1/12/33 Letter: "I am not out of bed yet but I have a suspicion I am a little better today.
   "Have all my medicines fixed and am on your schedule.
   "[951] is taking me to the doctor's and back this P.M. I'm not taking one step I don't have to. I want to get rid of him and I can't so long as he comes to the house.
   "I also cut my diet to liquids and am taking lots of mineral oil and your medicines.
   "The tonic works on my bowel condition, I believe. Just as soon as I'm better I'll let you know.
   "The urethritis is better today - I know that."
3. 1/18/33 Letter: "I got up this last Sunday for the first and am improving each day, I think. "I think this is a good tonic you suggested for me.
   "I seem to have misplaced my letter of my reading and I sent the carbon copy back to you, so I'll have to ask for a copy of it now, it seems [623-1].
   "Don't let any of our work rush or bother you. Thank you."
