1/23/35 Letter to EC from Mrs. [
654]:
Dear Mr. Cayce -
I received your letter a few days ago and was as glad to hear
from you. I'm ashamed of having waited so long to write to
you.
I know it doesn't seem so, but I do really appreciate your
help and kindness more than I can tell you and I think of you
and your great work most every day but some how just can't
get down to writing.
I started on my treatment as soon as I received the medicine
and for a while I got so MUCH BETTER and my feet stopped
hurting and the callous places left entirely. I don't know
what happened but a few weeks ago I began to get worse again
and my feet are as bad as ever, the callous places are back
and I have the same sharp pains in my feet and legs.
I thought I was doing everything exactly right but I must
have done something wrong. I was so happy over getting so
much better, then when I got worse I got so discouraged, was
really to nervous and sick to write to you.
For a while I most went crazy. I'm ashamed to tell you but
several times I was on the point of committing suicide.
I try so hard to look on the bright side of life and to be
thankful for what I have and try to laugh things off like I
used to, but some how I just cannot.
As long as I'm on my feet and can get out I do very well, but
when I get down [[...], husband] seems to do everything he
can think of to worry me and make me worse. He keeps [
653]
and me both terribly nervous ALL the time. I have I believe
honestly tried all these years to do right and to make a go
of it, but I just feel like I can't go on.
[[...], Husband] has irritating little cough [See

See

well for the tr. to have been followed for him.] that sets me
crazy and has a terrible odor one can smell all over the
room. It nauseates me so, I just can't help it. I don't
know what to do. I can't be my self and do any good in the
world when I'm worried and sick all the time. He thinks more
of the almighty dollar than anything in the world and it's a
fuss all the time to get money for what we need.
I feel that I can tell you these things as you have been
such a good friend of all these years and I know you are a
Christian, and I NEED your prayers very much.
You and the organization have done a great deal of good and
I'm sure will do even more in the coming year, and I'm sorry
I haven't helped more. I promised to do better this year,
for I surely HAVE rec'd worlds of help from you.
It seems like every time I am the lowest and most discouraged
I get a letter from you and it cheers me up and gives me
faith and strength. You must know when I need some one most.
I am better in some ways, the piles are a great deal better.
I am about out of the Tim so will appreciate it if you will
send me a bottle or jar also some more Atomidine. I have
only a little of that left.
I think perhaps you better give me another reading and see
what's wrong and if I should continue to take the Atomidine.
I have such black circles under my eyes and my face seems to
be breaking out under the skin and there seems to be so
little I can eat. I've gotten almost afraid to eat, and
nearly everything I eat taste bitter and makes gas on my
stomach. I suspect the whole thing is more from nervousness
than anything else. When you give the reading please ask
about the obstruction in the rectum and what to do for it.
I put the castor oil on the spots on my stomach but it didn't
do any good. I wish the reading would tell me exactly what
to eat as I see some of them tell others.
A few weeks ago my face turned red as fire and seemed like it
and my heart would both burst and blood poured out of my
mouth. I don't know yet where it came from my head or
elsewhere.
I will send you some money as soon as [
653] comes home which
will be next week I think. I would send it now, but I have
to send this by someone to mail and don't care for that
person to read this. [
653] has been in Selma visiting Mother
for 4 weeks. I let her go thinking the change would do her
good and perhaps her nerves would get better. I am very much
worried about her too.
Ever since the accident several years ago she has been going
through it at night every little while. She screams and
yells to turn the wheel and jumps right out of bed and when
I try to hold her or wake her she beats me most to death some
times she is so strong. She wrote a few days ago that she
most frightened a girl friend to death the other nite. She
was spending the nite at this girl's house and in the nite
she screamed and jumped out of bed sat down on the floor and
held on to the bed post as tight as she could and it was a
long time before they could get her awake and she fights so.
I'm afraid she will lose her mind. While I was so weak and
sick she has so many spells and kept me awake so as she
sleeps with me and she beat me so.
When she comes back home will you please give her a reading,
and tell me what to do for her. I did all the things you
told me to do before and she got better for a while, just now
seems to be getting worse and her face is a sight it is so
broken out.
So many people have been dying in Selma. Mr. [...] and
Dr. Lee Jones [Lee Jones, M.D.] died last week. Dr. Jones
was one of best friends I ever had, he did so much for me and
the rest of the family. I hear he died of cancer, don't know
if that's true or not. About twelve people I know in Selma
have died in the last two weeks.
1/31/35 Letter to Mrs. [

Mrs. [
654],
Box ...,
..., Miss.
Dear Mrs. [
654]:-
I have yours of the 23rd; it was forwarded to me here from
the Beach. We are here meeting with a group that was
organized last fall, doing some special work which takes up
practically every bit of our time. It may not be possible
for us to get to a check reading until we return to the
Beach, which will possibly be the latter part of next week or
a little later. Should occasion arise that we should do
this, you may be sure that we will include it. I can fully
appreciate the conditions that surround you causing a great
deal of worry and trouble, making for your nervous conditions
to become very such exaggerated. I feel very confident that
it must have been some indiscretion in eating, or something
of the kind that caused this upset; and I feel sure that if
you would start all over again with everything suggested in
your last reading, in a very short while you would be feeling
a great deal better. In the meantime I will have the office
send you from the Beach the Tim and the Atomidine. You know,
as soon as we have the opportunity and know that the little
girl is at home, we will be very glad to make the appointment
for her reading. It is quite evident that there is something
very definitely upsetting her system, to cause such a rash or
to disturb her so much at night; and - as you say - these
things should be attended to now, before they become too much
a part of her general physical condition. You know we are
only too glad, Mrs. [
654], to try to be of service whenever
we can. I do hope you will plan to - and go about to - take
the full course of that suggested for you in the last
reading, and I trust that this time will not be a hindrance
to you. I'm sure you realize that though everything may look
dark and we may feel discouraged, and feel that our
usefulness is not appreciated or that we would possibly be
better off out of the way, we should look at it rather that
we are God's children and that each day that He allots us
gives us another opportunity to show forth His love to our
fellow man; just being patient, and kind when others seem to
distrust us most, just smiling though our heart may be
breaking, is doing those things He has promised us we are to
be judged by in that last day. So, hold on - and know that
He is able to deliver us and He does not allow us to be
tempted beyond that we are able to bear, if we do not try to
bear it alone but take it to Him. I'll let you hear from me
again as soon as possible. And be sure to let me know just
how you get along. With kindest personal regards to you and
yours,
Sincerely, EC:GD
2/08/35 Letter to EC from Mrs. [
654]:
Mr. Edgar Cayce,
Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce -
I received your letter some time ago and appreciate you
writing when you had so much to do. The letter helped me
quite a bit.
I did start all over again on my treatment quite a while ago,
but I'm about out of the Atomidine, haven't had enough to
take the douches.
I've been trying to think what made me worse as I was getting
along so fine for a while. I've about decided it was some
wine [[...], husband] got for me. I thought a little of it
would give me strength but I believe that's what caused the
trouble also the breaking out on my face and chest. I'm
better but am not getting along nearly as well as I did for
a while. I stopped drinking the wine and hope when that gets
out of my system I'll be better again.
I don't know whether the last reading meant for me to take
the Osteopathic treatments again or not. How ever I'm doing
everything else and think I shall start on those soon. Dr.
Ellis isn't here any more but I understand there is another
one here just as good, if not better.
[
653] is back now, her little vacation seemed to help her
but she isn't right some how. Her monthly periods are very
irregular, some months she doesn't menstruate at all and some
times she menstruates for two weeks at a time but very
little each day and ever since she has been back she has
complained of pain in the left side of her back just below
the waist, sort of a crick or catch. And she says she still
has those spells at night. While she was gone she jumped out
of the bed and sat down on the floor and grabbed the bed post
and held on as tight as she could and put the brakes on and
screamed at the top of her voice and it took the folks a long
time to get her awake... [See
