Mr. Edgar Cayce

Dear Mr. Cayce,-
I have thought of you so often and intended to write to you
long before this but I have been under such a strain for the
last few years I couldn't seem to do any of the things I
wanted to do.
I've wanted to tell you how very much your last reading
helped me. Perhaps you have forgotten it has been so long
now, but if you remember I was going to Selma to take the
treatments from Miss Grapes. I found she was away on a
trip. While waiting for her return I found a Mrs. Elliot
in Biloxi who is much better. I took quite a few treatments
from her and felt wonderful, better than I had in years.
Then [husband] got sick again and I overtaxed my strength
taking care of him and haven't been so well since.
Our daughter married a little over a year ago and went to
Atlanta to live. She was coming home for Xmas come Dec. 15th
and [husband] was so excited over her coming, had looked
forward to it for so long. I went to the school after him at
7 P.M. to go to the train after [
653] and he said he had such
a headache and I said "Well, we better go by the house and
get you some medicine." We did and I told him he better stay
here and keep quiet while I went to meet her. We got back in
just a few minutes and he came to the door to meet her and
talked about five or ten minutes, then didn't know any more
and died the next A.M. [
12/16/38]. It was an awful shock.
He had looked better than he had for some time.
Mother [
979] stayed with me for about two months. [
653]
and her husband are staying here with me. He got a job in
... - doesn't pay much but will do until he can find
something better. I don't know what I will do but will stay
here for a while until I can get my mind straight and decide
what to do.
I do wish I could be there Saturday for your birthday to wish
you all the happiness in the world. I do hope this will be
the very happiest birthday you have EVER had and I hope you
will have many many more even happier.
I am enclosing a little gift - only wish it could be more.
I would like so much to hear from you, your letters always
help me so much and I surely need all the help I can get now,
and you are the one friend in all the world I BELIEVE in.
With every good wish for your health and happiness.
Sincerely, [

Dear Mr. Cayce,
I have thought of you so often since receiving your nice
letter in March and intended answering long before this.
I am so glad you had such a nice birthday. I'm quite sure
you deserved all the nice things you received and the faith
we all have in you. There is no one in all the world I have
quite so much faith in.
The 16th of this month [[...], husband] will have been gone
a year. It just doesn't seem possible. It has been a hard
year for me in many ways but I try to look on the bright side
of life and do the best I can. I know God is with me and
will help me through.
I got so awfully nervous and had to have a change. I went
over to Mother's [
979] and stayed about five weeks, just
returned. Had a very nice visit but Selma never has agreed
with me. I got more nervous than ever and my back hurt so I
could hardly stand it. I went to Miss Grapes and she gave me
a wonderful treatment. She gave me several adjustments, said
my spine had drawn up 3 inches too short. She also says I
have glandular trouble. My back still hurts me terribly. I
need something done for me right away. A doctor in Ala.
wanted me to have a very serious operation [a hysterectomy,
she indicated later].
I would like for you to give me a reading right away if you
possibly can. I will send you the money soon as I hear from
you.
I received so MUCH help from your last reading. I took the
treatments and the 'tonicine' regular and was feeling better
than I had in years when [[...], husband] took sick three
years ago and then I took sick form nursing him and the awful
strain I was under and I haven't been well since.
Please give me the reading as soon as you can. I hope to
hear from you real soon. You have no idea how very much your
letters help me.
In all these long years you have never failed me. You have
no idea what it means to me to have someone I can have
confidence and faith in and can call on anytime. So many
times just when I was about to give up I would receive a
letter from you and you would seem to know just the right
thing to say to help me most at the right time. It must make
you very happy to be able to help so many many people and to
have so many love you and have so much faith and confidence
in you.
Hoping to hear from you real soon.
With all good wishes,
Sincerely, [

12/16/39 She submitted questions, besides those which got
asked: "What causes pain in back just below waistline?
Stiffness and soreness in my hands and arms, especially my
left? I want so much to get well and strong again so I can
amount to something."
