This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at The Oakland, 2006 Columbia Road, Washington, D.C., this 8th day of October, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [684], new Active Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the Cayce lecture at the Willard Hotel on Oct. 5th.

TEXT

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [684].
2. Now, as we find, there are seats and causes for infectious forces that produce or make for conditions in the system that the rest of the organs do not - under existent conditions - take care of; and the effect of these poisons that are distributed through the system produce the disturbing conditions.
3. These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [684] we are speaking of, present in this room:
4. In the BLOOD SUPPLY we find the effects of a disturbed circulation, with the tendency to draw so heavily upon the leucocyte and the white blood as to produce a deficiency in the whole of the blood stream; making for a low pressure and producing - by this slowed circulation - effects in the extremities in portions of the system of distressed areas.
5. As to the NERVOUS SYSTEM, we find that these disturbances in the circulation produce in the nervous system centers along the cerebrospinal system where there is the tendency for the accumulation of drosses and the effects that are produced by the poor eliminations, that by the slowing of the circulation disturb the functioning organs.
6. Also we find the sources of the infectious forces that have produced and do produce these tendencies and effects are seen not only in the blood supply, not only in the nervous system, but in reflexes to the ORGANS themselves, disturbing the digestion, making for the conditions in the liver, the spleen, the pancreas, that make for the effects of these organs being disturbed.
7. These first began as a catarrhal condition in the soft tissue of the face, head, which has made for a disturbing factor in the circulation through the face, the antrum, the teeth, the gums, the throat; all of these become SOURCES of the disorders.
8. These effects upon the circulation are seen. The effect upon the digestive system is to turn the activities of the body into that rather of an acid reaction, and regurgitation from the duodenum to the stomach proper at times makes for distresses and as to the effect that food values put upon the activities of the gastric flows in the system. Hence we have reflex gastritis at times; at others the effects are towards the colon, producing mucous; making for constipation and the returns to the effects of a DEPLETION in the ability of the system to create a proper or normal balance in the system.
9. Then, in meeting the needs as we find for this body, [684] we are speaking of, first we would prepare that which would act upon the system as an effect upon the portions so disturbed; that, as corrections are made and there is the adding of the forces for the production of new blood supply in the system, we will retain and sustain a building up rather than still drawing upon the vital forces of the system.
10. So, we would prepare this:
11. To 1 gallon of distilled water, we would add:

    Wild Cherry Bark.............1 1/2 ounces,
Sarsaparilla Root................1 ounce,
Yellow Dock Root...............1/2 ounce,
Burdock Root...................1/2 ounce,
Buchu Leaves....................20 grains,
Cinchona Bark..................1/4 ounce,
Mandrake Root....................1 grain.

    Reduce this by slow boiling to 1 quart. Strain and while warm add 2 ounces of grain alcohol with 2 drams Balsam of Tolu cut in same. The dose would be a teaspoonful before each meal and before retiring.
12. Also occasionally (as the compound is being taken) we would take the high enemas to relieve the pressures that have been indicated in the colon.
13. For the condition in the nasal cavity, we would use THIS (by self) in an atomizer:
14. To 1 ounce of grain alcohol, add:

    Eucalyptol......................10 minims,
Oil of Turp......................2 minims,
Tincture of Benzoin..............5 minims.

    Keep this in a container alone. When ready to use in atomizer, heat a tablespoonful of water and to this add 15 minims of the above solution, and spray - morning and evening - the nostril and the throat with same.
15. Have local attention to the gums, to the teeth.
16. After half the compound to be taken internally has been used, we would then begin the use of the violet ray over the head, neck, and the upper portion of the body; three to five minutes each evening.
17. As to the diet, though it may be altered to suit the taste, keep away from heavy red meats. No ham, no fried meats, no heavy beef with much grease. But rather an outline as this:
18. Mornings - citrus fruit juices, with whole wheat browned bread - with butter. Preferably a cereal drink.
19. Noons - preferably the dried milk with egg or ice cream, or both, stirred into same.
20. Evenings - a portion of this meal should be of raw vegetables; the rest of blood BUILDING foods - as liver (broiled), pigs' feet, tripe, green vegetables that are WELL-cooked, and those things that make for the activity of an alkaline reaction.
21. With the resuming of the normal activity after the compound, we would begin with Olive Oil; not large quantities - preferably very small quantity; quarter of a teaspoonful three to four times each day. Should this produce regurgitation, use AL-CAROID AFTER the meal and it will soon disappear.
22. Follow these conditions and we will find we will build strength, vitality, normalcy, for the physical forces of this body.

24. (Q) Can she drink coffee?
    (A) Coffee, fresh - without cream, is a food. In excess, WITH cream - or with quantity of sugar, it becomes as a poison, or hard for a digestive system - if taken in excess. This may be taken in moderation.
25. (Q) What is the cause of the congestion in the central portion of the body?
    (A) This, as we find, is from a shock to the system; but with the correction of those conditions where the poisons are prepared for the eliminations, and the system built up, these conditions - with the application of the electrical forces - will disappear.
26. (Q) Any other suggestions for the better physical conditions of the body?
    (A) Well that the body take a specific exercise after the bath each day. The stretching of the body; not in excess, but as a stretching of the arms, of the limbs - side, circular, forward, up, down. Not just as a setting-up exercise, but stretch the arms high above head - stretch the arms to the front - a swinging motion. Two to three minutes of this each day will make for wonders in the FEELINGS and the activities of the body.
    Follow the suggestions; we will find the normal weight returning, the body be able to digest anything - the headaches and pains in the portions of the body will disappear, and the outlook on the life and the experience so much different!

1. 11/15/34 [684]'s letter: I received your letter of October 29th, inquiring as to how I am benefitting from the suggestions given in my reading the first part of October.
   I have followed all of the suggestions given as closely as possible, but have been waiting to report until I would have something definite to give you. There has been such a lot of grippe and colds around here, and I didn't know whether I had a touch of that, or whether it was the treatment that was stirring up my system, as the pains around my back and shoulders seemed to be worse. Of course this has been bothering me for a long, long time, and it perhaps, naturally, takes a long time to entirely rid the system of poisons and infections which have caused the pains. However, I seem to have somewhat more energy, but the nerves are not so good as yet.
   The prescription which you gave me I had filled and it won't last so much longer. No doubt, it will be best to have this filled again. Shall I keep right on taking it until I feel well? Any suggestions you may have to offer will be appreciated.
2. 12/19/34 EC advised that she get the prescription filled again, and asked: "Did you get a violet ray hand machine and give yourself those treatments also?"
3. 1/08/35 [684]'s letter: I have followed your treatments as best I could. I inquired about the violet ray machine (I didn't know just what kind you meant) and was told that these were very expensive, nearly $100.00 but that the ultra-violet would do the same work, so I got one of those - supposed to be sunlight, and seems to be very good. I don't know whether it will take the place of the hand machine which you mention, but when I inquired at the stores they didn't tell me anything about the hand machine. I had the prescription refilled and am taking that, also the olive oil, which I have to let up on once in a while, as it doesn't seem to want to SIT so well. I take the caroids, which seems to help. Am also careful of my diet, but am still troubled with a seeming congestion and fullness in my right side. As a whole, I am somewhat better.

5. 10/11/35 [684]'s letter:
   Washington, D.C.
   Association for Research and Enlightenment, Virginia Beach, Va. I received a case report from you to be filled out, but somehow it has become misplaced.
   As far as I could tell, the symptoms as described by Mr. Cayce in the analysis were correct.
   I followed the suggestions as nearly as possible. However, with regard to the food, as I take all of my meals out, I could not get some of the things mentioned, but have tried to have a well balanced and nourishing diet. One thing I have slipped up on is the Olive Oil, which it seemed I just could not take during the hot summer and I haven't started on it again. Have just bought another supply. Have had several bottles of the prescription and still have some left of the last bottle received.
   I think I have improved generally, but there is still congestion which brings on hot flushes and which you stated resulted from a shock. This diagnosis was correct, as a few years ago I had a bad fall and right away these hot flushes started in. At first of course they came more often. Certainly would be glad to get rid of these entirely.
   As the prescription does not relieve the constipation to any extent, is there anything special you recommend for this and should I keep taking the prescriptions?
   I believe this is all I have to report.

6. 1/04/36 [684]'s letter:
   As we are very busy at the office now just after the 1st of the year, I would much prefer having a recheck a little later on, if you think I should have one. Might say, I went to a chiropractor and had a few adjustments, as I was having trouble with my back and he gave me a diagnosis on his radioclast, which practically agreed with you diagnosis, that is, I think it did - showed an infected gall bladder and liver, which seems to be the principal trouble.
7. 3/15/36 [684]'s letter:
   Washington, D.C.
   Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
   Dear Mr. Cayce:
   Referring to your letter of January 1st, in which you stated you would like to check on my condition. As we were so busy then, and you said it would be all right to wait until later on, I decided to wait, but did not intend to wait so long. If you are at Virginia Beach at this time, I would be glad to have a recheck at any time convenient for you, or if you are away at this time, whenever it suits you, if you will advise me of the time.
   In regard to the specific questions:
   As stated in my first reading, I have a great deal of congestion in my right side, causing hot flushes, which I believe you stated was caused by an inactive liver, and when I was examined by the radioclast, they said the same thing, also that there was an infection in the gall bladder. I am very anxious to get this cleared up. I haven't taken the tonic for a while now.
   Also, I have a great deal of aching, especially in my shoulders, and mostly the right one, and of course this makes me feel rather tired.
   Lately (since I had the grippe a few weeks ago) I have developed some trouble with my right ear and the back of my head, toward the right side, and feel sort of dizzy at times.
   I do have some trouble with my gums, but the dentist declares they are not infected. Perhaps your reading will show different.
   I have the slip which you sent "Your attitude in seeking a reading."
