6/19/35 Her reply: "Receipt is acknowledged of your letter
of June 8, 1935, inclosing corrected bill showing my
indebtedness to the Assoc. for Research and Enlightenment,
Inc.
"I quite agree with you, that it would have been better if I
had waited until I left the hospital before having a rdg.,
for then it would have been unnecessary, and I would have
been over $10 to the good. I suppose, however, that the fact
that the rdg., even if it was only for ten minutes, should be
considered as being worth $10 to me, as it corroborated the
fact that my M.D. was giving me practically the same as
recommended by the rdg., which had already pulled me through
the crisis, gotten rid of my cough, which was very much
stressed in the rdg., and gotten my temperature almost back
to normal, but neither he nor Mr. Cayce seemed to suspect the
colitis condition which followed, which was holding me back,
as revealed by subsequent x-rays and electrical treatments
and adjustments.
"As I understand an emergency condition, preference is given
over routine matters, but not to materially cut down on time.
I should think it WOULD make quite a difference in expense
whether a ten minute or an hour rdg. was given, so far as
clerical work and expense was concerned, and while the
preparation for a ten minute or an hour rdg. may be the same,
so far as Mr. Cayce is concerned, while he is in that state,
it seems to me that he should get all of the information
available, especially in view of the fact that he goes into
that state only twice a day. Furthermore, Mr. Cayce was away
on a personal matter at the time the emergency rdg. was
requested, for which I paid telegraphic charges, and I did
not get the rdg. until his return some time later.
"I appreciate your offer to deduct $5 from my bill, or give a
check rdg. without charge, but feel that I do not want to
accept either offer. I am, therefore, inclosing my ck. for
$10 to cover the amount of the inclosed bill, requesting the
return of the receipted voucher. I am also herewith
tendering my resignation as a member of the A.R.E."
Notation on returned bill: "PAID - June 24, 1935. We are
complying with your request. [signed] Gladys Davis, Sec'ty."
