10/18/34 Friend Mrs. [
692]'s letter to EC:
"Ever since you have been in town I have debated on this
question and now am taking the liberty of making the request.
I shall have to borrow the money, but I have many things
for which I am thankful, and after all, money is only good
for obtaining that which we desire, and I am confident that
the $10.00 will come in from some place.
"If you will give a Physical Reading to a friend of mine,
I would like to pay for it. My difficulty is that she is
colored, and so many people doing work along your line, will
not 'mix their vibrations.' I have not mentioned the hope
of help for her because she is so sensitive anyway that I
could not bear to be one to let her feel there might be help
which was denied.
"She is lame in her left side and the left arm and hand
cannot be used properly. This condition has existed for many
years. No one seems to know how it came. As I gather the
story, she has tried many, many physicians both here and
in Louisiana. Her husband is an employee of the Interior
Department, and that fact with the fact they are colored
gives her free hospitalization at Freedman's Hospital here
in the city. She was there once for over four months. She
has tried free clinics. All are puzzled. She has gone into
Christian Science, Unity and Super-mind Science and earnestly
tried by that method to obtain complete health. Now she has
contacted a doctor out at St. Elizabeth's.
"I feel if you would give her a Physical Reading, this doctor
would cooperate to the greatest extent. He has suggested
hypnotic treatment and she is willing, as well as the
husband. The husband laughs at our delving into things
spiritual and mental for healing, but will do anything
as long as he knows a medical man is working on the case.
Therefore, if your reading pointed out the difficulty and
the way under a physician to health, the husband would
cooperate. The doctor out at St. Elizabeth's is very much
interested, and treats my friend with the courtesy he would
show a white patient and with the kindness he would offer
a child of six. Consequently the mental fear of not being
wanted is obliterated.
"We are always reaching out and asking God for that which
we desire, but I could think of nothing more to my heart's
desire than to see this lovely soul made well. She is a
lovely soul, but somehow got into a brown skin...."
10/21/34 [
709]'s letter to EC:
"For the Physical Reading I am desirous of having you give
me, I will be able to sit in meditation any weekday except
Saturdays between 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. At that time I
am entirely alone and can be undisturbed. Please let me
know at what time you expect me to sit.
"And will you answer these questions for me?
"How can I bring about a more agreeable attitude toward
housekeeping and homemaking?
"Am I taking the right steps to attain spiritual growth..."
10/22/34 Friend Mrs. [
692]'s letter to EC:
"Enclosed herewith is the application of my friend [
709]
of whom we were speaking the other afternoon. Also you will
find the $10.00 Active Membership fee and $1.00 to cover her
contribution of fifty cents a month (for two months).
"I thank you for helping to bring about a great joy. It was
wonderful to me to see the expression on [
709]'s face when
I told her there would be a reading for her. It is
impossible to describe it because it was so mingled with
surprise, joy, expectant help and possible relief, and
thankfulness that it is hard to separate the expressions.
The surprise was greater to her because when I had told her
about such a person as you being in town and the psychic work
you were doing, it seems she had thought what a blessing to
those who would be given the opportunity to accept and who
had the finances to carry out the opportunity, and that she
had dismissed the thought from herself for herself because
she knew she would not be presented with such an opportunity,
and if such a thing could be possible, then she couldn't
finance it anyway. She is so happy and expectant over it.
"As you know I wanted her to have a personal Physical
Reading, and was disappointed that I had not asked in time;
blamed myself for not being more prompt in following my
impression. However, [
709] is just as pleased. She says
she will feel quite satisfied with a reading not in her
presence. In fact, she was so relieved at that, it has set
me wondering just how many hurts and bruises she has received
at the hands of others when she has tried to find help.
The unconscious hurts we extend to others might make a good
sermon, might it not..."
REPORTS
10/27/34 GD's letter to Miss Edith Edmonds of Glad Helpers
Prayer Group:
"Because of her reading yesterday, I am taking the liberty
of asking that [
709] be placed on our Prayer List - for
Health and Spiritual Guidance.
"The necessary cooperative blanks and affirmations may be
sent to a friend who is helping her: Mrs. [
692], Washington,
D.C.
"Mrs. [
692] is a member of the Glad Helpers in Study Group
#9, so I'm sure she will place this woman upon the Prayer
List of that Group. However, I'm sure she would like to
have our prayers also..."
10/31/34 EC's letter to Mrs. [
709]:
"The information as was given in the psychic reading through
the request of our mutual friend, Mrs. [
692], has been sent
you. You, yourself, of course, will know better than anyone
else just how well this applies in your own experience, or
how near it fits what you feel has been disturbing you.
"Now, our experience has been that where individuals have
consistently and conscientiously followed the suggestions,
even though it has required from time to time that there
be Check Readings or further information given as to the
developments and just what had taken place with the
application of the information thus far, people do get
results, and I am believing you will also, and I think it
has promised you that you would have a better body to
manifest in at this time.
"Know we will be anxious to know your reaction to the
information and just how you get along, so you will please
let us hear from you from time to time.
"Thanking you, and hoping to have been and to be of a real
service to you..."
