12/18/34 EC's letter:
Mr. [...]
..., Ohio
My dear Mr. [...]:
I beg pardon for not replying sooner to yours of the 11th.
Circumstances over which we had no control have prevented me
from being at my desk for some little time.
Now regarding the battery:
With the 3 kinds of solutions that are to be used with same;
first, the Gold solution, you will find, Mr. [...], that the
Chloride of Gold ordinarily comes in 15 grain ampules. This
is soluble in distilled water. You put the 15 grains in 15
ounces of distilled water.
For the Atomidine solution, this becomes much more expensive
than the Gold, for here you will find that it will cost about
$1.00 an ounce. This ounce should be enough to add with
distilled water for your iodine solution, which would last
for about 21 days, or for the time of the treatment before
you recharge the battery.
The solution that is to carry the Camphor - of course, you
get the regular Spirits of Camphor at the drug store and use
it full strength.
These, to be sure, are not to be put together, and I am sure
the Reilly's Service must have sent you three containers with
three leads, or bottles to put the solution in for the
connections to pass through. The solution is to always be
attached to the negative pole, which is the nickle pole in
the battery in each case. The directions in the information
are very specific as to how these are to be attached each
day. One solution, you know, is used one day and the other
one the next day, and so on. I trust the delay has not been
detrimental to Mrs. [
717]'s condition, and I am in hopes that
you will let us hear from you from week to week as to just
how Mrs. [
717] progresses.
I feel very sure that if these are applied in connection with
Dr. Johnson's treatment, you will see more definite and more
decided beneficial results.
Please give Dr. Johnson and Dr. Brennar my regards. Tell
Dr. Johnson I met a very good friend of his last week in
Kentucky - Dr. Napier. [Paul D. Napier, D.C.]
Hoping that this explanation is satisfactory, and with
kindest regards, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce

2/24/35 Husband's ltr: "As the time required in your reading
has been covered as prescribed for my wife, I am writing for
further instructions. You will no doubt be disappointed to
hear that we can see no change in the physical condition of
Mrs. [
717]. We have been very consistent in following the
outline given in every detail: Electrical appliance, Epsom
salts baths, Atomidine drops, Diet and continuance of
Dr. Johnson's adjustments three times a week."
3/08/35 "Dr. Johnson is writing you, submitting some
questions, as per your request."
3/09/35 Dr. W. Irving Johnson's letter (which did not arrive
until a few hours AFTER 717-2):
"I will try out some new movements for adjustments, including
feet.
"We are getting some pain in spine column, which is o.k. -
means nerves are coming back to life. Mrs. [
717] never has
any pain in her body.
"Impossible for Mrs. [
717] to use crutches - she cannot
support herself with crutches let alone walk with them -
always falls unless her husband holds her up.
"Basic technique loosens up knees but it tightens up again -
muscles contract. What is causing this loss of proper
balance? Will take another X-ray."
3/12/35 See
717-2.
