This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 19th day of January, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [796], Active Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Study Group #9 of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

TEXT

1. EC: We have the body, [796].
2. Now, as we find, there are many conditions that disturb the better physical functioning of this body. While we find there are periods and times when the body feels fairly well, these are rather the periods when the exaltations through the activities of the mental and emotional self override or overcome for the moment the physical distresses in the body. Then with the returnings of the activities in the physical cycle of activity the distresses arise from a very poor assimilation, with the superacidity that is caused by the lacerations in the duodenum portion of the stomach itself proper, congestions in the liver and those activities that tend to make for the very poor circulation through the digestive forces in the jejunum itself. Thus there is produced a very slow peristaltic movement through the colon, causing the distresses or pains at times in the right portion or caecum area, those tendencies for the constipation such as to produce inflammation through the kidney and bladder area. Thus poisons are reproduced, and the effects upon the blood supply. At such times we often have the retention activities, as it were, in the heart - that make for the shortness of breath; periods when the activities through the lower limbs - and pressures that exist in the lumbar area, especially in the vortex of the pelvic center itself - produce numbness in the lower extremities, especially in the left limb; tingling sensations and cold feet, a numbness whether walking or sitting. These occur from the poor circulation and from the conditions that have been indicated as existing in the system.
3. Then the effect produced upon the whole body is very much in a positive reaction to that felt by the body during the periods of quiet and meditation (as in the present), when other conditions seem to make for little or no difference in the conditions of the the body. Yet when the body becomes the more conscious - not that there are not physical conditions, but when the body becomes the more conscious of those activities of the physical forces - the distresses are brought to many portions of the system.
4. Then, in meeting the needs of the conditions, as we find, it will necessitate that there be created for the balance in the system that which will not only remove the causes but make for the ability of the organs disturbed in their functioning to become resuscitating in that the organs and the glands secrete for the resuscitating of the vitale and vitality throughout the body itself.
5. As least two or three times each week, then, we would have a GENERAL massage; this preferably following the use of the steam cabinet to make for a reaction through the superficial circulation, and those tendencies to make for the heating of the body; not to such a temperature as to become weakening to the body, but the general massage should follow it. Preferably this should be two or three times each week, and at such times make the specific adjustments in the coccyx end of the spine and in the 4th lumbar and 12th dorsal.
6. Also we would be mindful of the diet, that those foods are taken which create more of an alkalin-reaction for the body. Not that these are the only things the body may eat, but this would be given as an outline:
7. Mornings - citrus fruit juices with whole wheat toast, coffee, cocoa, Ovaltine - these altered from time to time. Occasionally, once or twice a week, we would change to the gruels or the breakfast foods that are preferably cooked - especially the whole wheat and barley combinations; and with these would be used preferably the dried milk or skimmed milk if the animal milk is used, but only that which has been acted upon by the heat for the preparations of same for the body itself. But do not use citrus fruits AND cereals at the same meal! At times there may also be taken fruit, stewed fruits; but do not use bananas or apples raw - either of these may be had if they are cooked and used at this meal.
8. Noons - preferably the juices of vegetables or meats or the combination of same; and at other periods - two or three times each week - there should be only a raw green vegetable salad taken, combining such as carrots, onions, peppers, radish, lettuce, celery, tomatoes and the like, with which there may be used - if desired or preferable - an oil or a combination salad dressing.
9. Evenings - leafy vegetables and those that grow above the ground. Have at least two of the leafy vegetables to one that is of the pod or starchy nature. If rice is used, only use the brown rice - or that which has not been polished. The beans should be preferably those that have less of the starch activity and more of the gluten activity. If potatoes are used at all, eat only the jackets and that close to same - in a very small quantity. No sweet potatoes or any vegetables prepared with sugars.
10. After each meal we would, for at least four or five days during the week - but be consistent and persistent with it, after each meal, take half a teaspoonful of Milk of Bismuth and six to eight drops of Essence of Lactated Pepsin stirred in a whole glass of water.
11. We find also that it would be most beneficial to take a tablespoonful of Milk of Magnesia in the evening just before retiring; especially during those periods when the corrections and treatments are being made.
12. In making application for those things that disturb the body as related to the condition on the face, close to the eye and on the cheek, we would use a compound for massaging, prepared in this manner: To 1/2 ounce of Iodex add 5 grains of Animated Ash. Mix these THOROUGHLY together. This combination, then, would be applied very gently. For the condition may become of a very destructive nature unless it is ridded from the system. DO NOT use caustics! Do not use electric needles on same!
13. Do these things and we find we will bring the better conditions for this body of [796].
14. We are through for the present.

BACKGROUND

2. 1/08/35 She submitted questions: "I am mentioning every defect I am often conscious of in my body (though I do not like to recognize them), thinking perhaps it will help with the reading."
   Please state the cause of the following inharmonies in the body and the cure.
   1. Food does not assimilate and nourish body - forms gas. 2. Blood does not seem to circulate freely from thigh down to toes in cold weather and when sitting a long time. 3. Soreness in END of spine. 4. Sciatic nerves sore and muscles stiff in lumps and across back. 5. Strength gives out when standing or working and seems to pull from nerves of throat and back of neck. 6. Do not sleep well. 7. Place on right side of nose near eye, size of a big pea. Tries to heal as fast as one scab comes off, inside of 3 weeks, another forms.
   Has been there over six years. I believe it came about the time a tooth, just below, was treated for an abscess. Perhaps this caused it. Dentist says not. While every one does not notice this spot. The effect on a stranger makes him rub the corner of his eye, UNCONSCIOUSLY. Perhaps this suggests the remedy. There is only a stinging sensation SOMETIMES or perhaps itching. Homeopathic doctor gave me medicine to take Dec. 10 but I see no improvement. There is a Dr. Philes here who has been recommended to take it off with an electric needle, but the homeopath says not to do it. 8. Have often had watery blisters on hands and feet, unnoticeable until scale off. 9. Left side of nose bled several times last year, not much, but unusual as I do not remember it ever happening but once before in my life, when a child & bumped it. One morning when I awoke mouth was full of blood. Could the vitallic sniffing, that Thomas Robt. Gaines teaches, cause it. 10. Shall I take Gaines Vitallic Kelp tablets, source of food Iodine, that he prescribed for Pancreas? Homeopath told me to leave it off when I took his medicine, not knowing what was in it. 11. Black specks in front of eyes.

2. 3/35 Letter from Miami, Fla.: "I think I shall stay in Miami for a month to get the baths and massage, etc. I do not know whether these baths are the right ones or not... The chiropractor says the adjustments you gave are just the ones she would pick out and they were out of place. I used the salve on my face while traveling and it made the place look so sore and ugly I stopped for a while until I can get from under people's thumbs. Have not been taking the medicines as prescribed either, for being forced to eat wherever I could I could not take it along."

5. 6/18/35 "Do wish I could run up to the Congress but can't until I'm through searching down here, and trying to get rid of the ailments that seem hard to cast out of God's temple. While I've never been able to carry out all of the treatments some have helped me, but I feel as stiff as ever and sometimes stiffer, and have to make a terrible effort before I can get out of bed in morning.
   "I went to see Dr. Fredoon C. Birdi [N.D.], the Persian who is here and showed him your reading. He said he knew you and had sent you patients. Am thinking of trying him next. But all these treatments cost so much..."
6. 7/01/35 "Have taken your advice. Had five of Dr. Birdi's treatments and feel better already. He comes nearer to filling your orders than anyone I've contacted and have enjoyed his course of lectures at Unity Center more than anything else since I left Washington. [She said Dr. [969] was interested in a reading.]
   "Have a wonderful old doctor friend of [75] who wants a rdg., Dr. [969], perhaps you know him."
7. 7/13/35 GD sent her an extra copy of 796-1 which she requested for Dr. Birdi, saying: "Also see enclosed notation explaining the Ash which you are to mix with the Iodex for local application. We have had some wonderful reports from those who have used this Ash as suggested in the readings."
8. 7/24/35 "Dr. [969]'s treatments have helped me and so have Dr. Birdi's and knowing them has meant a lot to me but I still need strength. Tried the Animated Ash in the Iodex on my face and it seemed to spread the place and made it hurt and look so much worse that I stopped using it."
9. 10/15/35 "Here I am yet [in St. Augustine, Fla.]. I think I wrote you that I stopped over to rest, as I hadn't strength enough to drive further. Went to a chiropractor here, who had one of the Abrams' Electronic machines, and it said I had aluminum poison and ulcers, etc. I found a thick book on aluminum compounds in food by E. E. Smith, Ph.D., M.D., of the N.Y. Academy of Science... If I have this poison I believe it comes from the amalgam filling in my teeth, as Dr. [969] had an experience of this kind with one of his patients... The chiropractor said he would guarantee to take that place off my face with the sun glass. Looks like a blue magnifying glass. Sit in the sun and he focuses it on the spot and it comes through the center as a tiny white light - hot. He has used it several times but do not know if helped it or not.
   "I wanted the next rdg. to find out what I'm really good for and if I am on the right track to do what I think I want to do, but it looks like I ought to have another Physical Reading to see why I have not gotten any stronger. Please let me know what you think...
   "P.S. Dr. Conley, the chiropractor [R. C. Conley, D.C., of The Drugless Clinic, St. Augustine, Fla.], has every kind of appliance. His newest is the Radiotherm, (written up in the August issue of PHYSICAL CULTURE), the short wave discovered when messages were sent to Admiral Byrd in the Antartic. He wanted me to try it but it creates a fever and I was afraid of it. It seems to work on others. May take a chance to see if there is anything to it."
