This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 16th day of January, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [808], Active Member of the Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. EC: Yes.
2. As we find, while conditions are changed a great deal, and the conditions are much bettered in many respects, there are inclinations for the body to revert to disturbing conditions - through weakness in the glandular system as we have indicated as being existent - under the stress of cold, or anxiety mentally. Thus there become not only the headaches, the easily tiring, but the effects rather of an aggravating condition to the nerve forces of the body; forcing the body to feel at times - from either a sound or a droning or the environs or surroundings - that unless there is a change something must happen!
3. These as we find are the results then of this tendency and the continual aggravation that exists in the system.
4. As we would find, then:
5. The more helpful applications in the present would be the activities of the Infra Red Light, rather than the Ultra- Violet. This should be given for at least thirty minutes to fifty minutes, about twice a week for two to three weeks, then rest from same a week to two to three weeks, and then begin again. This should be applied over the back, of course, and should be at least forty inches from the body.
6. Following each Infra Red treatment there should be given a gentle massage over the whole of the body, with specific adjustments at times in those areas of the lumbars (the whole area), as well as the upper dorsal and portions of the cervical area.
7. The adherence to the activities in the open as much as possible and with the diets as has been indicated followed, these in the present should be those activities to bring the better conditions.
8. To be sure, occasionally the use of the Radio-Active Appliance is helpful. At times this is found to have a tendency towards aggravating the body. When it does, remove - rather than forcing self to take.
9. But with the use of these applications as suggested, we should find - with the changing of the seasons and keeping of that tendency toward the alkalinity - much bettered conditions for this body of [808].

11. (Q) Why am I so tired all the time?
    (A) As has been indicated, those tendencies from anxiety at times; at others from the natural inclination of the weakness - for the body to revert to disturbing conditions.
12. (Q) What causes low blood pressure in this body?
    (A) As has been indicated, the lack of the activity of the system. Hence the deep therapy of the Infra Red should release these activities through structural portions as to build for a better, more stable, near normal circulation - if the manipulation is made for its nominal distribution through the ganglia of the system.
13. (Q) I have been taking Atomidine 1 drop morning and night for four days every two weeks. Are the glands functioning normal or should I continue taking Atomidine as indicated?
    (A) As we would find, during the periods that the Infra Red is given - that is, during the whole period - we would leave off the Atomidine. During the rest periods from the Infra Red and the manipulations, take the Atomidine - but not in larger quantities than the one to two minims.
14. (Q) In the diet of this body, would it be well to include broccoli, lettuce, lima beans, peas, tomatoes, nuts and red beans?
    (A) The broccoli would NOT be so good.
    As for beans, these will be very good if they are not taken at the meals when any great quantity of bread is taken. Let them supply as it were the necessary fuels for the body in the place of the bread.
    Lettuce and tomatoes should be well to be taken, not too much but these as combined.
    Peas - not unless they are fresh.
    Nuts in moderation. This should supply a great deal of the oils for the body, but principally pecans and almonds and filberts - rather than English walnuts or black walnuts or Brazilian nuts. Cashew nuts are fair, provided these are not salted too heavily. But particularly almonds, filberts and pecans.
15. (Q) Do I have pyorrhea of the gums?
    (A) The natural effluvium for the body-circulation tends to make for softening, as do the foods taken. And this as we find gives the inclination. We would massage more thoroughly, oftener, with the Ipsab; and we will find this softening - especially with nuts being a part of the diet, or nuts and raisins combined - will be overcome, and these will strengthen the blood through the iron as made and through the milk of chyle as they create for the strengthening of these particular portions or glandular forces of the body.
16. (Q) What causes phlegm in throat after each meal?
    (A) The lack of the circulatory forces for increasing without making for the accumulation in portions of the body, or the general weaknesses.
    With the changes by the activity of the Infra Red and the manipulations, these should offer the opportunity for the altering of these conditions.
17. (Q) Is it well for me to take cold showers in the morning?
    (A) Better if they are taken tepid and gradually turned to cold. But whenever there is taken a cold shower, there should be a very, very brisk rubdown with coarse towels afterwards, especially along the spine.
18. (Q) Am I getting enough physical exercise?
    (A) As much of it as can be in the open should be had. Sufficient in, but not out.
19. (Q) Is there any special precaution one can take to keep from getting the "flu"?
    (A) Spraying the nasal passages and throat occasionally with a thirty percent solution of Atomidine - that is, commercial strength - will most insure not getting same; provided the body is kept alkaline with the diets.

   Washington, D.C.
   Dear Mr. Cayce:
   Received the reading for which I thank you very much - I am sure the suggestions will be helpful. Also received both of your letters and we are always glad to hear from you.
   There are a few things in the reading that I don't quite understand and although you aren't asleep now, I thought that you would be able to understand it better and could tell me. First of all it doesn't say how long I should keep up the treatments. For instance it says to take for two to three weeks and then rest for one, two or three weeks, and then start again. Do you suppose that means to keep on until I feel perfectly normal? You know the funny thing is that [2784] gave me an Ultra-Violet ray lamp for Christmas thinking that inasmuch as I couldn't get natural sunshine during the winter that artificial sunshine would be a good substitute. I have been taking them [Utra-Violet] regularly and wondered if I couldn't take them in between the treatments that you prescribed - that is the three weeks that I rest, or do you think it would be advisable to wait until I finish the treatments and then take the Ultra-Violet. Another question - Is the Atomidine that you prescribed to spray in my nostrils and throat (30%) the same that I take for the thyroid gland?
   I've gotten in touch with Dr. Bolkhardt and I'm to take my reading up there Saturday so he can read it thoroughly. He is going to start my treatments Monday of next week and I'm sure he will carry out instructions exactly. I have been having those diathermy treatments from Dr. Bolkhardt that you prescribed for me once before since my last trip home and when I didn't get any relief, Dr. Bolkhardt suggested that I have a reading. He is very anxious to see it and even had me read part of it to him over the phone.
   Mr. Cayce, do the glands ever get built up to normal after they once have been weakened or do people that have gland trouble always have it more or less? Listen me, asking you all these questions, but you have so many experiences with readings of so many different people that I feel that you know everything even when you aren't asleep. Well, you certainly always help me and I know that these treatments are going to make me well.
   We are so sorry that your Father is so ill. Do send me his address the next time you write so I can send him a "get well" card. It is a shame that he is so far away from you too as I know he would much prefer being near you.
   The Inauguration yesterday brought out a lot of people in spite of the awful weather. I didn't go but [2784] did. He wouldn't miss it for anything - He loves parades! When he got home I told him all about it as I listened to all the details over the radio.
   Again thanks a lot for your advice and assistance - I will let you know the results of the treatments. I have been using the Radio Active as prescribed in my other reading. Should I continue doing that or leave it off entirely while I'm taking these treatments?

   Dear Mrs. [808]:
   Just have yours of the 21st and will try and answer at once. Yes, you would have been able had you been present to have had all these straight in your mind, and just hope can be correct in advising you while I am awake, tho realize there is a lot of difference. The length of time for the treatments, is until you feel a whole lot better. It is fine that you have the Ultra-Violet lamp, don't take those so often but keep right along with those, for am sure they are fine for you, just don't over do it. Yes, the Atomidine spray is same, only you put water with it to make it the 30% solution. Use distilled water when you do.
   Fine that you have the cooperation of the Dr., would like to know what he says when he reads your reading.
   Sure, the glands get built up, you remember every portion of the body renews itself, continually so that every seven years we are an entirely new body. A weakness that exists, needs then the help that it may adjust its self, in the rebuilding, and after a time it will be all gone, like a broken bone, may be stronger than one that was not broken, yet if we disregard diet and proper exercise, may retain a weakness, that stays with us.
   Hope now have set you straight, if haven't please don't hesitate to ask any question you like, may not always know the answers, but will try. Thank you for asking for my father's address, know he will be glad to hear from you all, it is 1711 Russell St., Nashville, Tenn., L. B. Cayce.    Dear Mr. Cayce:
   I received your letter last night and you don't know how much your suggestions have helped me. I was so glad to hear that the glands do finally build themselves up to normal as I was quite depressed on that score. Also glad to receive your other suggestions. I have ordered the Atomidine and will dilute it as prescribed and use it once a day or is that too often?
   I had my first treatment from Dr. Bolkhardt last night and it was so delightful. Dr. Bolkhardt tries to carry out your suggestions exactly and last night I was thankful for so many things: First, for having you as a family doctor and friend, and second for having someone like Dr. Bolkhardt to carry out the directions exactly. When I arrived there last night he was measuring the light and trying to find a table low enough to allow the lamp to be 40 inches away from me. When he was giving me the massage he said a gentle massage was prescribed and it made me feel marvelous. I took my reading by Saturday for him to read it but he wanted me to leave it until Monday so that he could study it. You asked me what he said after he read it - Well, when I got there last night he started carrying out instructions as directed and just took it for granted that you would diagnose my case perfectly and prescribe proper treatment. He calls you the "Human X-Ray" machine and said that you would be the only one to tell me what was wrong and what to do for it. He has the utmost confidence in you and doesn't add any suggestions to yours. He really is a good doctor especially for someone whom you give a reading the first time and who is not quite sure of your power as he lends that confidence that they need from an outsider. Of course, with me it doesn't make any difference as even if he didn't believe in it, I would know that he was wrong because I have had past experiences, but with a person that was doubtful his attitude would help considerably.
   I felt so much better after my treatment last night but again had difficulty in getting to sleep. I used the radio active and when I couldn't go to sleep an hour after taking that off, I took a glass of sherry wine and went sound asleep. I should have asked in my reading if sherry wine would hurt me taking it just before going to bed as so often when I can't sleep and I take a glass of sherry it helps considerably. Do you think it is alright for me to take that?
   My next treatment is Thursday and I know after a few treatments I will feel more relaxed and probably will sleep like a kitten. You said I would be well so I know I will.
4. 2/12/37 [808]'s letter to EC:
   Washington, D.C.
   Dear Dr. Cayce:
   Received your letter and surely glad to hear from you.
   I had my sixth treatment last night and now shall rest for about two weeks. Dr. Bolkhardt took my blood pressure which was 90 when he started giving me treatments as you indicated, and it had gone up to 105. Can you imagine that! I could hardly believe that it had gone up 15 points in three weeks and he was quite surprised himself. That in itself shows the improvement made in that short time. I'm resting much better too and that is another indication of my improvement. I'm so thrilled about it - After six more treatments when I have had my two weeks' rest period, it will be almost impossible to hold me down.
   We have been having a little bit of difficulty in getting a spray suitable for the Atomidine mixture. We did have one but the atomidine ate the metal off of the piece that goes into the mixture and the spray wasn't very fine. We have gotten another now but I don't know whether it will work or not - we haven't tried it yet. The part that goes in the mixture is glass but the outside nozzle is metal and I'm wondering if the atomidine will affect that. It also isn't a very fine spray. I hope it works, however.
   It has been colder the past few days but perfectly delightful. I walked up to the doctor's office last night and after dinner walked for about a half hour. This weather certainly is a lot more healthful than the rainy warm spell we were having for so long a time.

5. 3/01/37 [808]'s letter to EC: I started my treatments again tonight and I can hardly wait until I get up there. [2784] said my batteries were getting low again and I had to go to have them recharged. I am hoping that after these three weeks of treatments my batteries will stay charged, but if they don't, you can bet I will continue as indicated in the reading.
6. 3/11/37 [808]'s letter to EC:
   I have started my second series of treatments and tonight will be my fourth so far. I am really feeling fine and it is so wonderful to feel good again. I'm going to keep my treatments up for awhile anyway, and then when we visit Virginia Beach I will have a check reading. I'm still having difficulty with my spray for the Atomidine. At first it seemed to work all right as the part that was in the Atomidine was glass, but evidently the atomidine has encrusted the inside of the metal part on top as when I try to use it nothing but air comes out. I'm going to look around and see if I can't find one that is all glass. The one that you have has rubber on it instead of metal, doesn't it? I should think it would eat the rubber too, but then it has a funny reaction when it touches metal so rubber probably would be better. I should think the Atomidine people would put out an atomizer suitable for their product, but evidently they haven't so far. However, I will have to go shopping some day soon and see what I can find.

   Dear Dr. Cayce:
   I am at Dr. Bolkhardts' office now and he says that the soreness & pain is in the region of the ovaries and uterus instead of intestines and thinks I should change the question "What causes pain in intestines" (I think it was the second question) to "WHAT CAUSES PAIN IN THE REGION OF THE OVARIES AND UTERUS". He said also to add to the questions if you have time "Is it advisable to use ultra violet ray occasionally"? However, the question underlined is the most important.
