4/07/36 Ltr. from GD to Mrs. [
811]:
My dear, dear [
811]:-
I just now read a letter from Mrs. [
808] to Mr. Cayce, in
which she mentioned your mother's passing. The news
affected me so much because I remember meeting your mother
and how sweet she was. Also I know how very close you were
to her. There's so little we can say, but I just want you
to know that my heart goes out to you at this time. It is
especially sad coming just before Easter, when we all are
supposed to be happy and glad. But I like to think (and I
truly believe, from the teachings of this Work) that the
passing over of our loved ones is simply a birth into another
plane, and they are received with rejoicing there just as we
receive a new birth here. Still, we can't help but miss the
physical contact, the close bodily association.
No doubt it has gone hard with [
830], too, since he has been
right with her all these years.
We are hoping that you are feeling much better physically,
and able to stand up under the great strain which this has
been to you.
The enclosed copy [
5749-6] of the Easter reading our Norfolk
group had is being sent with the hope that it may bring a
comforting touch just at this time. Since you, too, were in
that period when He walked in the earth, and rose from the
dead, there should ring within you that truth, "There is no
death, for those who love the Lord."
We are leaving tomorrow for New York, and may in two weeks
come back through Washington. If so, I certainly hope to
see you and talk with you again. I don't know of anyone
I've felt closer to on such short (physical) acquaintance.
With love, and hoping you will write me sometime, I am
Your friend, [signed] Gladys Davis

10/27/59 Mr. [
826]'s letter [to GD]: "Brother [
816] is fine,
and so is [
811]. He is retired. She tried it also, but she
didn't like it at home. She doesn't like housework and
cooking, she doesn't care much for bridge or card games, the
television in their apartment is not very satisfactory
because the apartment house does not allow aerials, and I
don't think she had enough people to talk to. As you will
recall, she is a genial person who enjoys conversation. So
she went back to work, spends about ten or eleven hours
coming, going, and at the office, and apparently likes it
fine."
3/65 GD's note: Mr. [
826] told me that both [
811] and [
816]
are quite feeble these days, but that [
811] is worse off than
[
816]. He, [
816], still does all the housework and waits on
[
811] hand and foot.
5/65 GD's note: The Virginia Historical Index, edited by
E. G. Swem, lists over 150 different first names of
Jeffersons of colonial America, but this list does not
include an "Adelaide" Jefferson.
3/77 GD's note: The brother-in-law [
826] of Mrs. [
811]
recently died and we were trying to locate his brother [
816]
and Mrs. [
811] through a mutual friend Mrs. [
3627] who said
she thought Mrs. [
811] was still living in Calif. though
Mr. [
816] had died a few years ago.

Dear Gladys,
I had a phone call this morning from mother who told me all
about her daughter's ability to give readings. In a recent
reading she said that she had once received (in a past life)
a reading from Edgar Cayce, [
811], and that the reading could
be found in the top row on the shelf* in the library. I plan
to check that today. I don't believe the girl has ever been
here, but I am not sure.
Related to the reading the mother said that her daughter
identified herself as "Susan"** in the life she had the
reading [
811]. I am wondering whether you can check to see
if this checks out, without violating any of the rules you
had about confidentiality.
The girl went on to say that the reading she received had bee
a a health reading, but that she didn't follow it.*** She
also mentioned that she may have worked for Edgar Cayce for a
short time, doing filing and clerical work.****
You probably handle this sort of thing all the time, but it
is a bit unusual for me, and so I thought I would share it
with you, and ask for your help.
Thanks, Robert Witt
5/21/81 GDT to Robert Witt [following statements respond to
Par. R12 above]:
1. * Not the top row.
2. ** Names was not Susan.
3. *** Mrs. [
811] had many health rdgs. and DID follow them.
She did NOT work for Edgar Cayce at any time.
4. **** I knew Mrs. [
811]; she never knew that her Case
number was [
811], since it was always only a file number,
code number, in our vault, which we did not use on the rdgs.
until we made them available anonymously in the 11 yr.
process bet. 1/60 and 9/72. We lost track of her when she
moved to Calif. in 1966, but in '77 a mutual friend thought
she was still living tho. her husband had died.
